Default How much is that doggie in the window? Song

Ok, this might seem like a very weird question , but does anybody know what's up with this song? I wasn't even aware of its existence untill recently.. My mother is in her late sixties, eastern european and of a traditional cultural backround. She does not have the habit of listening to english songs and does not even speak English! She is visiting at the moment and a few mornings ago , she woke up inquiring abt this song. She had a dream in which she was trying to get access into a building of some sort and wasn't allowed to enter unless she knew how to sing the dog in the window song. In her dream, she was singing the melody and few of the words but it was not considered good enough and was not granted access. I did a google search for a song about a dog in the window and it does exist. It was quite famous in the 60s and sounds exactly as my mum is singing it. I also found a very strange article about an english woman that has been tormented by this song for 4 years, she just hears it in her head day and night, which is exactly what its happening with my mother right now. We dont have any clue where it came from as we never heard it before. Any idea of what in the world could this mean? It's been 3 days and she cant get it out of her mind, it is driving us a little nuts!

Ha! My mom used to sing that to me as a lil girl.

I don't think it really means all that much. As a person who tends to get songs stuck in her head, all I can possibly recommend is for your mom to start listening to some of her all time favorite songs, and hope one of them clicks and breaks the chain.

But then, that might just be a meet the new boss same as the old boss sort of thing, best of luck no matter what though!

BTW, I never did learn how much that doggie costs...

Put Patti Page and That Doggie in the Window into a search engine.

Basically, a woman is going to California and wants to buy a dog for her husband so he wonít be alone while she is gone. I do not think there is any deep meaning. Just a catchy tune.

    Here it is:

After years of research and testing, the Institute for Dislodging & Establishing Annoying Songs (IDEAS) has distilled results down to two Supreme Annoyances, both likely to make one's elderly relative forget all about any doggies:

What amazes me is the fact that she doesn't recall ever hearing this song before. I suppose, maybe she did hear it at one point in her life and the subconscious mind just resurfaced it in this dream.. so annoying though, I keep on hearing it as well now, since I had to listen to it 😀😀

It's said that we carry every single memory of our lifetime in our brains. I remember reading about experiments where they touch a probe to an area in the brain, and the full memory comes vividly flooding in. I think that song was first popular in the 50's, so my guess would be that she did hear it at a very early age.

As our brains change with age, memories from long ago can seem to come flooding back suddenly, especially when in the alpha state it seems. I witnessed those memories heavily in my mom during her last few months. It was actually very sweet to hear her speak of long-forgotten, but loving events and people.

If your mama is open to this, this lesser known, practical little exercise might help get rid of the song that is stuck in her head...It releases that part of the brain which is on the same line as the inspirations that flow in from the cosmos.

And this is for anyone else who has a song stuck in their heads too...
Start by putting a smile on your face and as you do that, stick your tongue out as far as you can whilst simultaneously breathing all the way out through your mouth. Breathe out with as much force as you are able to and for as long as you can.
Repeat if it doesn't work the first time. If you repeat the exercise and you still have a song stuck in your head, you may have an overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut.

I had a large dog who whenever upset or on long drives and when a bit tired of the car, I would put that song, that was on a tape cassette in those days, on to play and sing along, especially the ruff ruff part. I'm sure everytime, instantaniously, my dog had a huge grin and waggily tail. The ruff ruff part sometimes she would sing along as well.

Now when I think of that song I feel her with me.

I do remember reading there was some kind of mind programming that sometimes was used with the children's song " Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
