    Default 1608 UFO Battle?

I came across this interesting thread started by Zorgon on the abovetopsecret website.Curious read.

UFO Battle South France, from Marseilles to Genoa, 1608

Yup 1608 Going way back. Seems they fired 800 rounds of cannon shot at them and didn't make a dent...

Fine UFO in Liguria (Genoa by the CUN)

1608 August - Genoa-Nice - In the sea are seen emerge from Genoa to the navel beings with human figure and arms covered with scales, with two flying snakes in his hand. Many guns are slow to no effect. Seen in the same period in Nice "strange objects in the sky throwing blood on the ground."

1608, August 15 - Genova - In the port appear three carriages each drawn by six figures of fire with serpent-like dragons throwing scary screams. The churches are full of supplicants, are organized fasts and processions.

France - UFOs in History August 1608

NICE -- In August 1608, the inhabitants of the South France, from Marseilles to Genoa, witnessed a true UFO flap, reported in a chronicle entitled "Discours des terribles et espouvantables signes apparus sur la mer de Gennes". In Nice, the inhabitants saw three strange luminous vessels which evolve at high speed above the city. The three machines stop near the fortress and descend to just above the water where they cause the water to boil and emit a red-orange vapor.

Numerous witnesses saw two humanoid beings with large heads and large luminous eyes, dressed in a red suit with silver scales, connected to the flying machine by tubes, and engage themselves in several hours of strange work.

    1608 UFO Aerial Battle

In August of 1608, people of southern France, from Marseilles to Genoa, witnessed a true wave of UFOs, as reported in a chronicle of the time entitled, "Discours des terribles et espouvantables signes apparus sur la mer Gennes."
In the sky over Martigues an aerial battle took place which left an odor of saltpeter (gun powder).

The inhabitants of Nice saw three strange luminous vessels moving at high speed above the city. The vessels stopped close to a fortress then went down into the sea causing the water to boil and release a reddish-colored vapor.

To the amazement of onlookers, two humanoid beings with large heads and large luminous eyes, and reddish scales connected to their vessels by tubes, passed several hours in some kind of strange work.

Also off Genoa an aerial battle took place between flying objects and other craft emerging from the sea. The soldiers of the fortress delivered eight hundred blows from their guns to drive off the intruders.

Secret Societies have existed among all peoples, savage and civilized, since the beginning of recorded history... It is beyond question that the secret societies of all ages have exercised a considerable degree of political influence.

    Nuremberg Germany UFO Battle (1561)

Quote One of the earliest of documented sightings of aerial phenomena took place on April 4, 1561 at dawn over Nuremberg, Germany. What was described as a war in the heavens, with a wide variety of craft ranging from spheres to spear-like cylinders to crosses and "plates". The sky was apparently filled with the machines, clashing in battle for well over an hour. The battle was such that a winner was perceived as well. Spheroid UFOs were seen emerging from cylindrical 'motherships'. At the conclusion of the battle, it seems a magnificent, black, spear-like super-ship of some kind came upon the scene. An ancient woodcut (click image to view full-size picture) was created by Hans Glaser to document the event. A second woodcut was created by an unknown artist (see below) that depicts the same event.

The woodcut shows two people apparently witnessing the event. Hundreds of oddly shaped and colorful objects fill the sky above. The woodcut also seems to indicate that two of the objects may have crashed to the ground (bottom right in the above picture).

Quote It began at dawn, as dozens, if not hundreds, of crosses, globes and tubes fought each other above the city. It ended an hour later, when "the globes in the small and large rods flew into the sun," and several of the other objects crashed to earth and vanished in a thick cloud of smoke. According to the Nuremberg Gazette, the "dreadful apparition" filled the morning sky with "cylindrical shapes from which emerged black, red, orange and blue-white spheres that darted about." Between the spheres, there were "crosses with the color of blood." (i.e. red crosses) This "frightful spectacle" was witnessed by "numerous men and women." Afterwards, a "black, spear-like object" appeared.

Thank you guys - I'm looking for historical (best: medieval period) sources depicting UFOs at the moment.
In the book "the gods of eden" you will find several medieval images with UFOs. If anyone knows about a specialised archives for such drawings, I'd be very grateful to know more:-).

    Kind regards,

Another Nuremberg source, dated before 1608:
    http://science.howstuffworks.com/spa....htm/printable
    Ancient and Medieval UFOs
In A.D. 1211 Gervase of Tilbury, an English chronicler of historical events and curiosities, recorded this bizarre story:

There happened in the borough of Cloera, one Sunday, while the people were at Mass, a marvel. In this town is a church dedicated to St. Kinarus. It befell that an anchor was dropped from the sky, with a rope attached to it, and one of the flukes caught in the arch above the church door. The people rushed out of the church and saw in the sky a ship with men on board, floating before the anchor cable, and they saw a man leap overboard and jump down to the anchor, as if to release it. He looked as if he were swimming in water. The folk rushed up and tried to seize him; but the Bishop forbade the people to hold the man, for it might kill him, he said. The man was freed, and hurried up to the ship, where the crew cut the rope and the ship sailed out of sight. But the anchor is in the church, and has been there ever since, as a testimony.

This tale -- unrelated to any other British legend or supernatural tradition -- is, according to folklorist Katharine Briggs, "one of those strange, unmotivated and therefore rather convincing tales that are scattered through the early chronicles."

    Quote Black Plague, 1347-50:

Reports from this period feature strange cigarlike objects flying low through the sky and dispersing noxious mists. Soon after these objects passed by, plague would break out in that area. Other features from this period similar to modern UFO reports include sightings of mysterious MIB-like scythe-wielding "reapers" clad in black hoods & robes, and mysteriously slaughtered cattle and other animals. One year before an outbreak of plague, a "column of fire" was seen over the Pope's palace at Avignon. A monstrous "whale" was cast ashore at Egemont shortly before another plague outbreak, and numerous times during this period "rumblings like thunder" were heard even when there were no storms. Blazing "comets" were seen numerous times in the heavens - some of which may have been real celestial objects frightening an omen-crazy populace - of which numerous were said to be accompanied by "flames" (aurorae?) hanging low in the sky.

Thanks Swami for posting Linda Moulton Howe's interview with "William Bramley" which incidentally took place on Aug 22, 2008.

It was nice to hear directly from the author how he came to write The Gods of Eden, and there is some new material here. Linda, however is not as critical as Kerry Cassidy might have been.

In an earlier post elsewhere I pointed out that "William Bramley" was taken from the name of a Star Trek character, and that the author of the book is actually Tore Dahlin, a disbarred lawyer and excommunicated ex-Scientologist. (The publisher's information reveals it is published "by arrangement with the Dahlin Family Press.") Indeed, if you follow the links I posted here, you will find a great many surreptitious references to the teachings of Scientology as you read Dahlin's book, which blossom into his theological leanings in his last, somewhat unnecessary Chapter 40 - The Nature of a Supreme Being. To his credit, Dahlin acknowledges Hubbard's books in his bibliography.

This however should not detract greatly from his innovation and scholarship in producing this book, which everyone interested in this forum should read.

Download it here or from BitTorrent. The pages in Jim Keith's Bibliotecapleyades review article do not exactly match the ones in this facsimile.
