Faulkner Co. Schools start earthquake drills

Earthquake, drop and cover! With the recent quakes in Greenbrier, several Faulkner County schools are beginning to practice drills. Arkansas education officials don't require it but with all the earthquake activity, school leaders say it's necessary.

FAULKNER CO., Ark. (KTHV)-- Earthquake, drop and cover! With the recent quakes in Greenbrier, several Faulkner County schools are beginning to practice drills. Arkansas education officials don't require it but with all the earthquake activity, school leaders say it's necessary.

Today's THV contacted all the major districts in Faulkner County; Conway, Greenbrier, Vilonia, and Guy-Perkins. All say they have started drills this year. The reason is the sudden swarm of earthquakes.

Last Sunday, a 4.7 quake felt rattled Arkansas. It's the largest to in the state in 35 years. In the last six months, there've been 800 quakes in Greenbrier.

Districts want to assure parents that they will be prepared.

Arkansas will participate in a nationwide earthquake drill on May 16 to test plans of action. It's mandated by the white house. FEMA and the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management will participate.

I have family in that area and let me just say - they are pretty freaked This is a whole new world to them and I am glad to see that some folks are taking it seriously and thinking practically.
