Yeah... and with that pict on Spaceweather.com is written (unlikely and unexpected):

Quote APRIL AURORAS: According to the space weather forecast, geomagnetic storms were unlikely on April 1st. It would've been foolish to go out looking for Northern Lights. Warren Gammel of Fairbanks, Alaska, decided to check the skies anyway, and this is what he saw:

"I didn't expect to see too much when I went out at 2 a.m. on April 1st, but the auroras were fairly strong," he says. "I took these pictures using a Canon T1i with a Pelang 8mm fisheye lens."

The display was caused by a minor but effective solar wind stream that arrived during the early hours of April 1st. The impact sparked bright lights across the Arctic realm of North America. No joke: It pays to be alert for auroras.

MorningSong check out this little tool, it maps inbound real-time... earlier today the pacific was red, it is calming down now...

Quote This near real-time ionospheric Total Electron Content (TEC) global map is produced at IPS by using the IRI-2007 ionospheric model with real-time foF2 data obtained from the region. You can compare this derived product with the NASA JPL Global TEC Map. Note that the IPS dervied map may lag the NASA JPL map by an hour and is centred on a different longitude.

You can also compare the IPS TEC estimate with the US Space Weather Prediction Center's CTIPe model output. "CTIPe" stands for "Coupled Thermosphere, Ionosphere, Plasmasphere and Electrodynamics". This physical model produces a world TEC map in near real time.

Quote These maps are also used to monitor ionospheric weather, and to nowcast ionospheric storms that often occur responding to activities in solar wind and Earth's magnetosphere as well as thermosphere.

Here's a date adjustable solar system illustrator that tracks comet Elenin as it approaches the inner solar system. You can see when the comet has earth alignments and also planet alignments that are coming up soon.

    Here:
    http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sst...=0;log=0;cad=0

    or here:
    http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sst...og=0;cad=0#orb

    Here's some key alignment dates(approximates):

    3/15/2011 alignment—sun earth comet (2.099)

April 8-12th 2011 alignment Elenin - Earth - Venus only ( Elenin is only 1.8 au from earth at this point)

    06 September 2011 Elenin - Mercury - Mars - Earth align

    9/26/2011 alignment—sun comet earth (.392)

11 October 2011 (Elenin is 0.246au from us) Thats a quater of the distance to the sun.
aligning Sun - Elenin - Jupiter - Earth this is a six day alignment!!!

    10/16/2011 closest (.24)

20th October 2011- Elenin enters our orbit and we will experiance a gravitational pull.

    11/6/2011 possible debris field interaction

11 November 2011- Venus - Earth- Elenin - mercury align

11/22/2011 alignment—sun earth comet (.586) possible tail interaction

04 December 2011- Sun - mercury - Earth- Elenin align as Elenin moves away

    25 December 2011-Mars- Elenin - jupiter align

    4/21/2012 possible debris field interaction

    12/25/2012 alignment—sun earth comet (5.242)

    G'day MorningSong,

Any ideas as to what 'Santa' is?
    Comet or other large body?
Kirk and his merry crew in a sequel?

Come across any info on the flare etc.
Wasn't looking and missed a Kp of 6...
    Interesting the quake events too...

    Kind Regards,
    Panopticon
