The guy is trying to escape and there is always this big white ballons that catch him and bring him back to the Island .....

I cant say that it is a T.V. series or moovie that wake me up but the one I'M remembering very much about time concept was in Twilight Zone ....
It was litle blue mans working to moove objets in between the seconds to bring them in another place in time and if you are missing an object in your home it was because of those blue guys ... They did a mistake and the object is lost for a moment and comes back after a while !!!!

A movie that woke me up in a passionate and defiant way was: Lorenzo's Oil.. beautifully acted by Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte, it was a story that gave me hope and courage to think for myself and fight for what I know to be true.

Another film that awakened the anarchist in me was: The King of Hearts. this is a delightful film about how providence can prevail and innocence be rewarded.

I do love and have watched at least twice thru, all of the Star Trek Series' and Stargate series' as well. What I haven't seen mentioned is: Farscape. This brilliant and imaginative series is a must-see for any self-respecting Trekkie.

This has been a fun trip, remembering all my favorite movies and finding good suggestions of what to watch. Thanks.

Woman Walks Ahead with Jessica Chastain moved me to tears last night, not that it was such an incredible movie, though it was a good one in many ways, but because it brought home to me once again the plight of the Sioux people of Standing Rock who are still fighting for their lives and to keep their land safe from encroachment of the US government, now in the form of the proposed Dakota Pipeline.

Trump fans don't seem to want to look at this, and I can see why.
It's very ugly the way the Trump Admin is trying to push the pipeline through with no regard for the people or the environment there or downstream.
The treachery of the US government against the natives of this land continues.

The story of Woman Walks Ahead is based on fact, though there are quite a few departures from fact in the storyline.
The main character, Catherine Weldon, really did travel to the Sioux reservation to paint Chief Sitting Bull's portrait, though that was not her only reason, and their relationship was quite close.
(There is evidence he proposed marriage to her.)

But what brought the story home for me was how it linked up the events of the 1876 battle of Little Bighorn, in which Sitting Bull was victorious, and Wounded Knee.
That was in 1890, 2 weeks after he was killed because he was mistakenly thought to be leading the Ghost Dance movement, and a band of his people fled and were then mercilessly wiped out in the Wounded Knee slaughter . (Nearly half were women and children.)
Very tragic, important and heartbreaking events in the chronicles of Native America!

Catherine Weldon was not present during the last year of Sitting Bull's life ( the movie places her there), but she was a very key figure in the years just before that.
A remarkably brave woman, who did her best to help the cause of the Native Americans.
They need many more such champions now.

The scenery in the movie is beautiful, there are a lot of Native Americans in the cast including the man who played Sitting Bull, and the behind the scenes stories about the making of the movie are interesting.

I hope this thread gets revived. There is still some good coming out of Hollywood, (however weird) and the movie industry as a whole (free flu shots not included--they were being given out at the Golden Globe Awards, if you didn't know...).

I would also add two of my favorites, Snow White and the 7 dwarfs (Disney original), and Fantasia, Disney original.

Don Lusk, was an animator and director who worked on Disney classics including Fantasia, Bambi and Pinocchio before moving to Hanna-Barbera in the 1960s, he died Sunday.

He went on to draw for cartoons and such classic Disney features as Song of the South, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty and 101 Dalmatians, among others.

In 1960, Lusk moved to Hanna-Barbera Productions, which would be a major force in TV animation. There he drew cartoons for such memorable characters as Woody Woodpecker, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Finn, Atom Ant, Chilly Willy and the Beary Family.

In the late 1960s, Lusk began working on Peanuts TV specials including A Boy Named Charlie Brown; It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown; Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown; and It’s Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown.

Lusk continued to work in animation into the 1990s, working on such series as The Jetsons revival — he had drawn for one episode of the original 1960s show — Adventures of the Gummi Bears and multiple episodes of Captain Planet and the Planeteers.

He helmed more than 130 episodes of the 1980s classic The Smurfs, earning back-to-back Daytime Emmy noms for Outstanding Animated Program. He also scored a nom in the same category in 1990 for A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and directed for such toon such series as Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures, Yo Yogi!, Gravedale High, Jonny Quest, The Flintstone Kids, Challenge of the GoBots and The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.

Well I do not consider that this film 'woke me up'! But it does portray a great deal of that which I find to be relative to 'life' here!

A mysterious creature, known as Ink, steals a child's soul in hopes of using it as a bargaining chip to join the Incubi - the group of supernatural beings responsible for creating nightmares.

but it is much more.... not great acting, not great quality....but stunning in it's description of the interaction between this world and another, including the drama between 'good' and 'evil'!

Worth the time to view in my opinion.

I have yet to watch Cloud Atlas from beginning to end. I've seen bits and pieces of it.....but man, is it ever a long movie and it's all over the place. That being said, I do know that it's a good movie and has a strong message. It's on my hard drive and I'll get to it eventually.

Thanks Bill (and all other posters) for the suggestions ... I selected 10 movies from this thread to watch next.

I saw "The Gods Must be Crazy" last night, it is educational, insightful and entertaining at the same time, very good movie !
Perhaps I have been a bushman in a previous life, I feel very comfortable in a rainforest environment. I feel strongly that
"owning things" is indeed a key element in making our lives more complicated.

Let me contribute to this thread by adding Deja Vu (2006)
I saw it 3 times to check some details I missed before.
