    EDITORIAL
The Titanic and the nuclear fiasco

On the night of April 15, 1912, 100 years ago today, the allegedly unsinkable luxury liner RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic after hitting an iceberg. Of the ship's 2,200 passengers, 1,500 lost their lives. Since then the Titanic has become an object lesson, an obsession and the subject of countless books and films.

The theories about why the largest and most expensive ship of its time failed in its promise and dropped to the ocean floor are plentiful and diverse. Investigators, researchers and conspiracy theorists have variously blamed the ship's design, the laxness of the crew, the inferior quality of the ship's rivets and hull steel, the poor design of the watertight compartments, record high tides, ocean mirages and of course, the infamous iceberg. Clearly, though, it was no one single cause, but a "perfect storm" of factors. The disaster would have been mitigated, though, by less arrogance and more precaution.

Presenting technology as completely safe, trustworthy or miraculous may seem to be a thing of the past, but the parallels between the Titanic and Japan's nuclear power industry could not be clearer. Japan's nuclear power plants were, like the Titanic, advertised as marvels of modern science that were completely safe. Certain technologies, whether they promise to float a luxury liner or provide clean energy, can never be made entirely safe.

In both cases, contingencies plans failed: the Titanic carried too few lifeboats; Tokyo Electric Power Co. failed to develop evacuation and backup plans for its Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant. The design, construction, materials and safety checks were all compromised. The main difference is that the catastrophic effects of the Fukushima fiasco are more far-reaching and long lasting. The plant's name has already become synonymous with disaster.

Not long after the Titanic sank, the company that built the ship retrofit its other two sister ships with stronger hulls. Was the company admitting a flaw or just being careful? Or were they being, at last, wise? Given what's at stake, the government, Tepco and the rest of Japan's power companies must act prudently and retrofit the nation's other nuclear power plants with stronger safeguards in the short term and, in the long term, concede that other forms of energy are demonstrably safer.

In an article not long after the Titanic sank, writer Joseph Conrad commented on the tragedy by noting the "chastening influence it should have on the self-confidence of mankind." That lesson should be applied to all "unsinkable" undertakings that might profit a few by imperiling the majority of others.

    Heads -up from ducthsinse ...

4/29/2012 -- Japan 'cloud' UPDATE -- Petro-chem or radioactive = West Coast arrival now ...

    Descriptive:
Quote Published on Apr 29, 2012 by dutchsinse

Whether it is a petro-chemical cloud or a cloud of vaporized barrels of depleted Uranium... its now on the doorstep of the northwest coast of North America.

Coming ashore anywhere from north Oregon, through Washington State, north to British Columbia.

Here is the full report from 2 days ago: plus the link to multiple radiation monitoring sites:

    http://sincedutch.wordpress.com/2012...leted-uranium-...

At this point.. there are some reports of NO damage to the 3400 barrels of depleted uranium stored at this levelled factory.... but I cannot find any pictures (or video) to confirm the barrels undamaged / intact.

Conflicting reports are coming out of the area.... Alexander Higgins covered this fully. As we know from last year at Fukushima.. best not to take the "official word" of "all clear .. nothing to worry about" with a grain of salt.. and understand that a cloud of SOMETHING was released. The question is, do you want to get it on your skin when it rains or drink it after it falls to the earth?

As for the cloud itself... no one is denying a large cloud of SOMETHING blew sky high and burned for hours. It immediately blew off the east coast of Japan with this system we now see coming ashore on the northwest coast ---- Washington State, North Oregon, and British Columbia Canada.

Many people took issue with my warning of this cloud coming, saying NOTHING was in the cloud to worry about. I suppose they are forgetting a chemical factory exploded and its particulate matter was injected into the storm that blew across the pacific.

I don't think vaporized petro-chemicals OR vaporized depleted uranium are good things to get on your skin or ingest. So I put out this warning to pay attention to the radiation monitors and to minimize your exposure to the precipitation that is produced off this storm.

Remember, we're not talking clouds you can see.. its a cloud of small particles mixed in with the coming storm at high altitudes.. it requires the condensation of moisture to trap the particles of (X) and bring them to the ground level.

No doubt SOME chemicals from this factory explosion are going to be in any precipitation falling from this storm. How much? What substances? No one knows.. best to be safe and know this occurred and that it COULD POSSIBLY be in the rain, snow, sleet, hail, or fog.

    From the Schwartz Report...

"Finally, the truth about nuclear power in Japan, Fukushima, and the U.S. involvement is coming out. And once again it is clear that the citizens of both countries have been systematically lied to for over a generation. This report puts a big part of the story on the table. It will appall you."

United States Circumvented Laws To Help Japan Accumulate Tons of Plutonium

    Monju Nuclear Power Plant

Joseph Trento - National Security News Service

The United States deliberately allowed Japan access to the United States’ most secret nuclear weapons facilities while it transferred tens of billions of dollars worth of American tax paid research that has allowed Japan to amass 70 tons of weapons grade plutonium since the 1980s, a National Security News Service investigation reveals. These activities repeatedly violated U.S. laws regarding controls of sensitive nuclear materials that could be diverted to weapons programs in Japan. The NSNS investigation found that the United States has known about a secret nuclear weapons program in Japan since the 1960s, according to CIA reports.

President Reagan and Vice President Bush

The diversion of U.S. classified technology began during the Reagan administration after it allowed a $10 billion reactor sale to China. Japan protested that sensitive technology was being sold to a potential nuclear adversary. The Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations permitted sensitive technology ...

There are ways to prepare, we knew a big one was due to happen,we also know that we will get through it (whithin),.well find a way or we will create one.We must no under estimate ourselves in fear.
two minutes on the net and you will find lots of pages to get started.i would suggest that we get going, prepare and dont look back.
    a few suggestions:

Preface: This is written for the millions of people around the world who are worried about radiation from the Japanese nuclear reactors. For those who are not worried about radiation from Japan, you can ignore this post, or save it for any future radiation scares closer to home.

How do we protect ourselves against radiation?

It is true that potassium iodide protects against high doses of a certain type of radiation. As the New York Times notes:
Fortunately, an easy form of protection is potassium iodide, a simple compound typically added to table salt to prevent goiter and a form of mental retardation caused by a dietary lack of iodine.

If ingested promptly after a nuclear accident, potassium iodide, in concentrated form, can help reduce the dose of radiation to the thyroid and thus the risk of cancer. In the United States, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission recommends that people living within a 10-mile emergency planning zone around a nuclear plant have access to potassium iodide tablets.

Indeed, virtually all suppliers of potassium iodide have sold out, especially after , the U.S. Surgeon General recommended that West Coast residents stock up.

    But as I noted yesterday:

Keep in mind that iodide only protects against one particular radioactive element: radioactive iodine, technically known as iodine-131. Iodine-131 has a half life of only 8.02 days. That means that the iodine loses half of its radioactivity within 8 days.

The government hasn't stockpiled much potassium iodide. As the New York Times notes:

Congress passed legislation in 2002 requiring the federal government to supply potassium iodide capsules to people living within 20 miles of nuclear power plants in the United States.

But the administrations of George W. Bush and Barack Obama have not implemented that provision, saying the law allows for alternatives.

Some states have given pills to people living within 10 miles of nuclear plants, or stockpiled the pills for those people.

But given that the government says that only minute amounts of radiation will hit the United States, and given that iodine-131 has such a short half-life, the whole issue may be moot (many, however, do not trust the government's assurances. See this and this). And taking high doses of potassium iodide can be harmful, especially for people with certain pre-existing medical conditions. So talk to your doctor before taking any.

    Other Radiation Dangers

While iodine-131 poisoning can be prevented with potassium iodide, there are no silver bullets for other radioactive isotopes.

    As I pointed out yesterday:

The New York Times noted last week that - in addition to iodine-131, the big danger is cesium:

Over the long term, the big threat to human health is cesium-137, which has a half-life of 30 years.

At that rate of disintegration, John Emsley wrote in “Nature’s Building Blocks” (Oxford, 2001), “it takes over 200 years to reduce it to 1 percent of its former level.”

It is cesium-137 that still contaminates much of the land in Ukraine around the Chernobyl reactor.

    ***

Cesium-137 mixes easily with water and is chemically similar to potassium. It thus mimics how potassium gets metabolized in the body and can enter through many foods, including milk.

    ***

The Environmental Protection Agency says that ... once dispersed in the environment ... cesium-137 “is impossible to avoid.”

Cesium-137 is light enough to be carried by the wind a substantial distance.
There is no surefire prevention for cesium-137. As the EPA notes in a discussion entitled " What can I do to protect myself and my family from cesium-137?":

Cesium-137 that is dispersed in the environment, like that from atmospheric testing, is impossible to avoid.
Neither the EPA - nor any other government agency - gives advice on how to minimize the danger from cesium-137 poisoning. Some have theorized about

So does that mean that we're sitting ducks?

Well, the fact that there is no silver bullet (although some have theorized about potential approaches) does not mean that there is nothing we can do.

Some Foods and Herbs May Help

Many foods and herbs have shown efficacy in helping to protect against radiation poisoning. Indeed, antioxidants in general have been found by some studies to reduce the consequences of radiation exposure.

A leading alternative health authority - Dr. Andrew Weil, a medical doctor who runs the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona - writes today in response to the question of how to protect ourselves against radiation:

I discussed other preventive strategies with Tieraona Low Dog, M.D., director of The Fellowship at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine and an expert on botanical health. She said that there is reason to believe that taking two to four grams of curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, can help protect a number of body tissues. In addition, reishi and cordyceps mushrooms can protect bone marrow from toxic assaults, and antioxidants can help the body defend itself from radiation damage. Since radioactive particles may be carried by dust, having a HEPA filter in your home would also be a good idea in the event of a nuclear accident that is close enough to be of concern.
Dr. Tieraona Low Dog is a medical doctor who has impressive credentials in herbal medicine, and who has been tapped to fill a number of health related posts in government.

Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock - on the editorial staff of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons - also recommends foods and herbs to help protect us from radiation:

“Most of the health risks are not going to be due to acute radiation poisoning,” he tells Newsmax. “It’s going to be a risk of increased cancer.” …

If radiation does arrive in the United States, people would need “to change their diet. They need to stop eating Western farm products,” Blaylock says. …

Among the supplements he cited, iodine can protect the thyroid gland if taken before the exposure to radiation.

Gingko biloba can be protective even after exposure to radiation. Beta-glucan protects the bone marrow. Curcumin also can offer protection after exposure, particularly against breast cancer. He also suggests garlic extract, ginger, melatonin, and magnesium. …

We understand if all of this sounds a bit flakey, crunchy, woo-woo and hippy-ish.

And none of these are 100% effective even against low doses of radiation.

But there are actually numerous scientific studies backing up the ability of some foods and herbs to help protect us from radiation. Admittedly, some scientific studies are good studies and some are of worthless quality. But the rest of this post will round up some of the scientific literature for your review.

As the Journal of Clinical Biochemical Nutrition noted in 2007:
The results obtained from in vitro and in vivo studies indicate that several botanicals such as Gingko biloba, Centella asiatica, Hippophae rhamnoides, Ocimum sanctum, Panax ginseng, Podophyllum hexandrum, Amaranthus paniculatus, Emblica officinalis, Phyllanthus amarus, Piper longum, Tinospora cordifoila, Mentha arvensis, Mentha piperita, Syzygium cumini, Zingiber officinale, Ageratum conyzoides, Aegle marmelos and Aphanamixis polystachya protect against radiation-induced lethality, lipid peroxidation and DNA damage.
Many inexpensive foods have protective properties against radiation, including:
Garlic (one Indian tribe living in the desert of Nevada used to eat bulbs of raw garlic to help protect against radiation from the above-ground nuclear tests)
    Foods rich in beta-carotene
    Ginger
Curcurim (and see this) - the active ingredient in turmeric which, in turn, is in yellow curry (available in Indian and Thai dishes).
Many types of seaweed (see this, this and this)
Miso (when it has been "long-fermented", instead of fermented for a shorter time)
Many herbs and supplements available at health food stores and drugstores pharmacies have protective properties against radiation, including:
    Vitamin D3
Vitamin E (see this and this; the natural form is probably much healthier for you than the synthetic form)
Panax Ginseng, a traditional "adaptogen" in Chinese medicine (see this and this)
American Ginseng (indeed, one study apparently found American Ginseng helped prevent damage from cesium-137)
    Rhodiola, an adaptogen
Holy basil (and see this; also called tulasi; this is the top herb in traditional Ayurvedic - i.e. Indian - medicine)
Chlorella, a blue-green algae (see this and this)
Spirulina, a blue-green algae available at health food stores
    Ginko bilboa
    Tomato extract (Lycopersicon)
    Reishi mushrooms (and see this)
    Cordyceps mushroom (and see this)
    Magnesium pemoline
Sesamol (an extract from sesame seeds)
    Melatonin applied to the skin
Thiol family of antioxidants, such as N-acetyl cysteine, glutathione and thioproline
    Beta-glucan (a yeast derivative)
And many herbs commonly available in some parts of the world have protective properties against radiation, including:

Aloe arborescens (commonly known as "Krantz Aloe", a lesser-known member of the aloe family)
    Nigella sativa
    Centella asiatica
    Tinospora cordifolia (known as "guduchi")
    Emblica
Note: Just because herbs are "natural" does not mean that they can be swallowed in large doses without side effects. Herbs can have powerful effects, just like medicine. As such, you should treat them with respect and study proper dosage and potential side effects before taking them.

    Q
    Protection Against Radiation?
The terrible tragedies in Japan - earthquake, tsunami, danger from the release of radiation - are heartbreaking. I'm wondering what precautions can safeguard health if the radiation travels beyond Japan.

    A
    Answer (Published 3/17/2011)
I've been closely following the dreadful events in Japan, and the comments of nuclear and radiation authorities in the United States. The experts view it as unlikely that radiation from the damaged Japanese nuclear reactors will pose a serious health risk elsewhere, even if the situation there worsens. If radioactive particles eventually reach the U.S, the levels will be much too low to be of concern.

I'm aware that many people have been asking their physicians what to do preventively, and that potassium iodide is selling out on the west coast. Potassium iodide is used to protect the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine, which can be released in the air following nuclear accidents and get into water and food. The thyroid concentrates iodine and the radioactive isotope is a known cause of thyroid cancer, even though it has a short half-life and disappears quickly. Saturating the gland with ordinary iodine helps prevent this danger, but the protection lasts only for 24 hours.

You can buy potassium iodide tablets at a drug store to keep on hand in case of nuclear accidents. No prescription is required. Be sure to check the appropriate dosages for you and members of your family (including infants, young children and breastfeeding women) at the website of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to the CDC, a single dose is all you need. Should radioactive iodine remain in the environment for more than 24 hours, another dose might be required. But you shouldn’t take any at all unless and until you know that there is an immediate radiation hazard. Potassium iodide helps safeguard against only one type of radiation product, and it only protects the thyroid. More dangerous is radioactive cesium, a chemical element that is absorbed throughout the body and can remain in organs and tissues much longer. Radioactive cesium can also accumulate in some types of vegetation that domestic animals eat; if so, it can contaminate milk and meat. Fortunately, cesium does not travel well - it is larger and heavier than iodine - so any that’s released is likely to fall in the immediate area. Some escaping from the damaged Japanese reactors might be carried by winds out over the Pacific, where, experts hope, it will drop into the water.

Again, for those of us in the U.S., the expert consensus is that radiation leaks in Japan are not in that category. My suggestion is that in this instance, Americans should pay attention not to themselves, but rather to helping the Japanese overcome a truly hazardous situation that may take years or even decades to resolve. The Charity Navigator's website has detailed information and charity ratings for those wishing to donate to the Japanese relief efforts.

How to protect yourself against nuclear radiation

    Just in case......

In 1945, at the time of the atomic bombing of Japan, Tatsuichiro Akizuki, M.D. was Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Francis's Hospital in Nagasaki. Most patients in the hospital, located one mile from the center of the blast, survived the initial effects of the bomb, but soon after came down with symptoms of radiation sickness from the fallout that has been released.

Dr. Akizuki fed his staff and patients a strict diet of brown rice, miso and tamari soy soup, wakame, kombu and other seaweed, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt and prohibited the consumption of sugar and sweets.

As a result, he saved everyone in his hospital, while many other survivors perished from radiation sickness.
Source: Tatsuichiro Akuziki, M.D. Nagasaki 1945, London Quarter books, 1981. (Brown rice, miso, Sea vegetables, Salt)

In 1968 Canadian researchers reported that sea vegetables contained a polysaccharide substance that selectively bound radioactive strontium and helped eliminate it from the body. In laboratory experiments, sodium alginate prepared from kelp, kombu, and other brown seaweeds off the Atlantic and pacific coasts was introduced along with strontium and calcium into rats. The reduction of radioactive particles in bone uptake, measured in the femur, reached as high as 80%, with little interference with calcium absorption.

The evaluation of biological activity of different marine algae is important because of their practical significance in preventing absorption of radioactive products of atomic fission as well as in their use as possible natural decontaminators.

WHOLE GRAINS PROTECT IN FIVE WAYS

Whole grains help to protect us from the deleterious health effects of radiation exposure in five ways:

    1) Grains are low on the food chain. Although they may have been exposed to pollution and radiation, they do not have the concentration of contaminants that is found in meat and large fish, which are at the top of the food chain.

    2) Important with respect to radiation protection is the high fiber and phosphorous contents in grains. The binding ability of these substances helps the body to remove poisons.

    3) The bulking factor of grains lessens the intestinal transit time and so hasten the elimination of all toxins.

    4) Being neither very acid nor very alkaline, grains help us to maintain the middle-range pH that has been found to increase our resistance to radiation.

    5) Whole grains provide vitamin B6, which is indispensable for the thymus. In addition, their calcium content guards against uptake of radioactive strontium, and their vitamin E and selenium prevent cellular damage caused by free radicals.

    THE FOODS BETTER TO AVOID

    1) Refined, genetic modified and processed foods

    2) Fatty foods (meat, dairy products)

    3) Simple sugars (white sugar), soft drinks

    Proven Effective Detox Protocols

The therapies described here are widely available as over-the-counter supplements in most countries.

Green stuff and other sea food

In Chernobyl, 5 grams of spirulina for 45 days was used successfully against radiation poisoning. Chlorella algae also has shown radio-protective effects. A study showed that spirulina reduced urine radioactivity levels by 50% after only 20 days and so the Institute of Radiation Safety in Belarus developed a special program to treat 100 children every 20 days with spirulina. Furthermore, the healing occurred during the continuous presence of radiation as well as the presence of radiation contaminated food and water sources. In particular, spirulina given to children with accumulated high doses of radionuclides reduced radioactive cesium. No side effects were registered. Only buy spirulina or chlorella from a certified heavy-metal free source.

Studies on sea vegetables with sodium alginate have shown that they selectively bound with radioactive strontium and eliminated it from the body. Sodium alginate is found in many seaweeds, especially kelp. Sodium alginate binds tightly to such substances as strontium, calcium, barium, cadmium and radium. Some seaweeds are contaminated with lead or arsenic so you only want to consume seaweed that is deep ocean harvested or has been tested to be free of metal toxicity (such as kelp from the west coast of South Africa).

Black and green tea have shown radioprotective effects when taken either before or after exposure to radiation. This anti-radiation effect was observed in several Japanese studies, and studies from China also suggest that the ingredients in tea are radioactive antagonists. Tea catechins are associated with antioxidant properties and can have radio-protective effects when taken both before and after irradiation.

Kelp also has organic iodine which will saturate the thyroid so radioactive iodine will not be absorbed. You can take 1 or 2 tsp or 5 to 10 tablets.

    Pectin

Pectin is one of the most effective means of protecting against radiation when consumption of contaminated food becomes unavoidable. Pectin preparations, along with vitamins and minerals, have demonstrated a high efficiency in eliminating incorporated radionuclides. The recommended dose is 5 grams once or twice a day for one month, 4 times a year.
"In 1999 BELRAD together with "Hermes" Hmbh (Munich, Germany) developed a composition of apple pectin additives known as Vitapect® powder, made up of pectin (concentration 18 - 20%) supplemented with vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, C, E, beta-carotene, folic acid; the trace elements K, Zn, Fe, and Ca; and flavoring. BELRAD has been producing this food additive, which has been approved by the Belarussian Ministry of Health, since 2000.

"The pectin additive Vitapect with clean nutrition appears to be 50% more effective in decreasing the levels of Cs-137 than clean nutrition alone (Nesterenko et al., 2004).

"A clinical study of 94 children, 7 to 17 years of age, divided into two groups according to their initial level of Cs-137 contamination determined by whole body counting (WBC) and given Vitapect orally for 16 days (5 g twice a day) revealed both a significant decrease in incorporated Cs-137 and marked improvement in their electrocardiograms.

"From 1996 to 2007 a total of more than 160,000 Belarussian children received pectin food additives during 18 to 25 days of treatment (5g twice a day). As a result, levels of Cs-137 in children's organs decreased after each course of pectin additives by an average of 30 to 40%.

"Based on long-term experience, the BELRAD Institute recommends that all children living in radioactive contaminated territories receive a quadruple course of oral pectin food additives annually along with their conventional food ration. Eleven years of BELRAD's activities in controlling levels of incorporated Cs-137 in more than 327,000 children has not caused alarm in the population or radiophobia and has led to the spread of knowledge concerning radiation protection and an increased sense of personal responsibility for one's health."

    Antioxidants and Sulfur Compounds

DMSO is available in various formats.
Sulfur has a long history of use as an antidote for acute exposure to radioactive material. Antioxidants have the capacity to reduce toxic effects of radiation in our bodies. Early research identified sulfur-containing antioxidants as among those with the most beneficial therapeutic effects.

Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) is the classical sulfur compound and a powerful anti-oxidant, exactly what we need for detoxification and protection from radiation. A Japanese study showed that even low concentrations of DMSO had radio-protective effects through the facilitation of DNA double-strand break repair, providing protection against radiation damage at all cellular levels in the whole body. The information and experience on DMSO is so fascinating that it can be described only as miraculous. Due to its importance, we have dedicated an entire article to it. See DMSO: The Antidote for Radiation Poisoning.

The use of anti-oxidants such as alpha lipoic acid, Vitamin E, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), vitamin B, selenium, N-acetylcysteine and other sulfur compounds becomes crucial. It is important to use several of them, as they work best as a team. In addition to that, individual anti-oxidants can act as pro-oxidants when they themselves are oxidized, therefore individual anti-oxidants could enhance the progression of post-irradiation damage to tissues and organs. Several studies have shown the importance of anti-oxidant supplementation to be an effective therapy against radiation hazards.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a crucial supplement. It is water and fat soluble and it is also capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier. This means that it is capable of reaching and preventing damage in our fatty tissues, our brains, and every single organ for that matter. ALA also repairs DNA. It is a good heavy metal chelator, it protects the heart and brain from cell death, stimulates the regeneration of liver tissue and is rapidly absorbed high up into the digestive tract. ALA recycles other antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and glutathione which is an indispensable antioxidant for detoxification and is synthesized within the mitochondrion. Glutathione may not reliably be augmented by oral supplementation because it cannot always pass over the mitochondrial membrane, therefore it must be synthesized within the mitochondrion. ALA and its metabolite DHLA provoke the cell to produce significantly higher levels of glutathione (even by 70%). So if the glutathione levels in a cell are kept up to a satisfactory level by ALA, even if the cell is poisoned, the cell will have a better chance of recovering instead of dying. It is of critical importance in order to reduce or reverse radiation-induced oxidative damage after radiotherapy. The recommended dose of ALA is 100mg twice a day with meals, although others have used higher doses of between 300mg and 600mg. A study conducted on some of those who worked on the Chernobyl clean-up operation 10 years after the accident showed that 600 mg of lipoic acid for two months was able to normalize many, but not all, of their lab abnormalities.

The anti-oxidant N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), as a source of glutathione and sulfur, is an excellent supplement to take. Studies have suggested that it might prove efficient in saving individuals exposed to lethal and sub-lethal radiation doses with few or no side effects on individuals exposed to lower doses. It is also widely available. Around 500mg twice a day is a good dose, although some have used with great success around 5 grams of NAC (per day, in a hospital setting) in 7 day cycles in order to detoxify heavy metals.

Other important supplements include magnesium and vitamin C. For more information on the many forms of magnesium and dose recommendation, see here. Calcium and magnesium both help your body to pass off Strontium 90, but make sure to take enough magnesium in order to properly metabolize the levels of calcium.

For vitamin C (ascorbic acid), 1-4 grams as a daily maintenance is a good dose, but during detox or acute exposure, more will probably be required. Vitamin C cannot only protect against radiation but also repair damage from previous exposure. It will also be very handy in case of infections. You can try taking 4 grams of vitamin C 3 times per day. If you have diarrhea or abdominal bloating, cut out one dose. If there are no signs of intestinal "gurgles", you can increase your dose throughout the day.

Consider taking also a good B complex which help to normalize the red and white blood cell count, since the destruction of white blood cells by radiation can last for extended periods of time.

Vitamin E 800-1000 IU per day and selenium 200 mcg per day are also important since radiation studies support evidence for the synergistic effects of vitamin E and Selenium in protecting from oxidative damage.

Zinc has been successfully used to chelate americium-241 from a nuclear accident victim. Natural zinc will also help the body eliminate several toxic heavy metals including cadmium, aluminum and lead. The recommended dose is 50 mg per day. You might want to supplement yourself with a good mineral complex in order to avoid deficiencies or imbalances brought on by increasing your zinc intake.

If there is a deficiency in potassium , radionuclides like cesium-137, cesium-134, potassium-40 and potassium-42, are absorbed through selective uptake. Too much potassium supplementation can be dangerous, so make sure to follow label instructions.

Melatonin, other than being our "sleeping hormone", also has powerful antioxidant properties. Animals subjected to whole-body irradiation and given melatonin exhibited increased survival and the protection against radiation-induced oxidative damage was apparent throughout the body. More importantly, melatonin administered orally results in higher circulating levels and more rapidly increasing tissue concentrations. As soon as an exposure occurs, depending on the wind direction after radiation explosion, people living at a distance could protect themselves by oral administration of melatonin, which can be ingested repeatedly as required.

Curcumin is a naturally occurring compound contained in the spice turmeric. Curcumin has been found to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activity in a variety of animal models of human diseases including radiation-induced pulmonary diseases.

    Breathing and meditation techniques

The Éiriú Eolas Healing and Rejuvenation program is a key ingredient in detoxing
The proven and effective Éiriú Eolas program includes well-known stress control techniques that stimulate the vagus nerve, which then activates the parasympathetic system which is a powerful anti-inflammatory system. It also includes well known emotional releasing techniques. It can be applied to improve symptoms associated with breathing difficulties, autoimmune diseases and mood problems. It reduces oxidative stress with an improvement of the overall antioxidant status, and thus it has application in numerous diseases including, chronic radioactive exposure.
There is no question but that social and economic factors are dire for those sick from radiation. Sickness, deformed and impaired children, death of family and friends, loss of home and treasured possessions, loss of work, and dislocation are serious financial and mental stresses. - Alexey V. Yablokov, Vassily B. Nesterenko, and Alexey V. Nesterenko.
During the breathing exercises and the meditation portion of the program, levels of the anti-stress hormones GABA, melatonin, and serotonin are increased, and levels of the stress hormones cortisol and norepinephrine are decreased. Learn more about the many benefits of this program here. The program is available for free at eebreathe.com.

    Diet

There are several simple cooking techniques that decrease radionuclides: boil foods several times and discard the water, wash food thoroughly, soak some foods and discard the water, avoid the peels of fruits and vegetables, salt and pickle some foods but throw away the pickling juice! Avoid eating strong broths, use butter, etc.

Remember that another way of boosting your body's detox capabilities and overall anti-oxidant levels is through the foods we eat which then become key to survival in these stressful times. Being on a detox diet is crucial to regaining health in a toxic environment. Our extensive experience and research shows that those on a no grain/low carb (no gluten) and non dairy diet fare MUCH better.

Chronic ailments often involves an imbalanced immune/defense system in which food sensitivities are involved even if they are not the cause of the problem, leading in turn to chronic inflammation - which translates into disease. This is why it is important to undergo an elimination diet in order to balance the body's immune system. Some of our immune cells take 6 months to regenerate, so it can take that much time in order to see results if you are very sick. But often you can see positive results in the first two weeks on an appropriate diet, even when you can't afford any other detox therapies. You can find the diet and how to transition to it here.

Everyone is different and it is only by testing foods that we can discern our individual problematic foods. Having said that, no one should be eating cereals or dairy products or high processed foods because the human system is simply not constructed to digest them properly. What we eat is crucial in recovering our health and it is a great healing medicine when done correctly.

Garlic and onions, being sulfur containing foods, help bind and deactivate both the radioactive isotopes and toxic metals such as cadmium, lead and mercury. The sulfur will help the kidneys and liver detoxify the body.

The most direct way of decreasing radionuclide intake is to avoid foods that are potentially heavily contaminated and to consume foodstuffs with lower levels. However, this is not easy to do because the average level of radionuclide bio-accumulation differs in each region owing to differences in soils, agricultural techniques, etc.

The Chernobyl experience tells us that soaking in water, boiling, salting and pickling foods such as vegetables can decrease the amount of radionuclides in some foods several-fold. Milk always contains high levels of radiation; processed products that reduce contamination levels, such as butter and ghee butter, are safer.

Radionuclide concentrations in the visceral organs of animals are usually significantly higher than in muscle tissue. Among visceral organs the order of decreasing levels of Cs-137 is: lung > kidney > liver > fat.

The Chernobyl experience showed that in contaminated territories the same species of fish taken from rivers and streams have significantly lower radionuclide levels than those from lakes and ponds. Plant feeding fish had three to four times lower radionuclide levels than predatory species (catfish, pike, etc.). Fishes at lower levels of the ocean (crucian, tench, etc.) had several times more contamination than fish which live in the top water layers (small fry, chub, etc.).
It is very important to avoid radionuclides in food and if they are consumed to try to eliminate them from the body as quickly as possible. In a baby, the biological half-life of Cs-137 is 14 days; for a 5-year old it is 21 days; for a 10-year old, 49 days; for teenagers, about 90 days; and for a young male, about 100 days (Nesterenko, 1997).
From the Chernobyl experience, the order of decreasing levels of Cs-137 were: chicken > beef > lamb > pork. Meats from older animals have more radionuclides that meat from younger ones owing to accumulation over time. Bones of young animals have more Sr-90. Eggs: shell > egg-white > yolk.

Pork and fats were not only the safest, they also prove to be a very healthy option for detox and healing purposes. For more information, see 'I have high cholesterol, and I don't care'.

The biological properties of Cs-137 are similar to those of stable potassium and Rubidium, and Sr-90 and Pu are similar to calcium. These properties determine where they concentrate in the body so the use of stable elements may help to decrease the absorption of radionuclides.

Foods rich in potassium include potatoes, beets, raisins, dried apricots, bananas, tea, nuts, lemons, and dried plums. Calcium rich foods include butter and ghee butter, eggs, horseradish, green onions, turnip, parsley, dill, and spinach. Green vegetables, apples, sunflower seeds, black chokeberries are rich in iron; and Rubidium is found in red grapes.

A diet to protect against radioactive contamination should include uncontaminated fruits and vegetables, especially those rich in pectin such as apples to promote the rapid elimination of radionuclides.

    Sleeping in Total Darkness

Low melatonin production leaves you not only susceptible to radiation damage, but it also leaves you vulnerable to accelerated aging, depression, weight gain. People with lower levels of melatonin have lower immune/defense function, less antioxidant activity and accelerated cancer cell proliferation, and they also tend to have more unhealthy imbalances in gut bacteria. But sleeping in total darkness is a natural way of enhancing the secretion of melatonin during the night. The room where you sleep has to be completely dark to the point of not been able to see anything. If lights seeps underneath your door, put a towel along the base. Cover your electric clock radio with something. Even the smallest light can decrease melatonin secretion, even if you're not able to see it with your own eyes.

    Miscellaneous

Natural zeolites (i.e., those found in volcanogenic sedimentary rocks) is a mineral which possesses attractive properties that contribute directly to their use in the extraction of Cs and Sr from nuclear wastes and the mitigation of radioactive fallout, but also as a dietary supplement for heavy metal detoxification. It also has anti-bacterial properties and it stimulates the immune system. It was used during successfully during Chernobyl.

Organic Germanium (Ge-132) protects cells exposed to cesium-137 without affecting cellular growth or survival. 25 mg to 100 mg per day has been typically used. (My favorite colon cleanser has organic germanium on it).

Activated charcoal has the ability to absorb and neutralize radioactive substances and some toxic materials. Researchers report that 10 grams or 1 tablespoon of charcoal can absorb about 3 to 7 grams of materials.

There are excellent articles out there focusing on iodine, clays, magnesium therapies and sodium bicarbonate. For more information, see:

All this information will help you to not only protect yourself from chronic radiation exposure, but it will also help you to regain your health by improving your mood and mental functions in these crucial and stressful times.

Did ya'll know that a earthquake, at the bottom of the ocean, won't displace enough water to cause a sunami? But a nuclear blast at the bottom of the ocean will, and will be read on the richter scale as an earthquake. hmm.

Leuren Moret: Fukushima-depopulation update; exposes Gen. Albert Stubblebine; offers solutions

In this exclusive wide-ranging May 15, 2012 interview with Alfred Lambremont Webre, independent scientist Leuren Moret, MA, PhD (ABD), updates the viewing audiences on the status of the ongoing Fukushima radiation-depopulation rollout, stating that "Fukushima radiation has taken over our planet." Leuren Moret also exposes inaccuracies in a recent Fukushima "Estimate of the Situation" video by former Gen. Albert S. Stubblebine (U.S. Army, Ret.). Stubblebine has publicly denied his involvement in a secret 1968 - 73 DARPA time travel and teleportation program despite direct eye witness whistleblower testimony to the contrary by Washington State attorney Andrew D. Basiago. Leuren Moret also offers solutions on how humanity can adapt positively to the challenges of this Fukushima radiation false flag depopulation plan, instigated by an international war crimes racketeering organization led by the Dutch and British Monarchs and City of London bloodline families including the Rothschilds.

Hi everyone. I've been pretty busy as a Moderator behind the scenes and it has cut into my time to actually read Avalon threads and create posts. Today I found this thread (sorry it took me so long). I've spent some serious time posting on this topic on a related thread and it would be valuable for anyone reading here to go look at the information I've managed to gather.

    Basically here's what I discovered.

    1) Much of what is used to scare us about Fukishima may be a false flag operation designed to keep us in fear.
    2) Most of us are NOT getting enough radiation for maximum good health... so some extra is actually a very good idea for us
    3) I have links to videos, radiation monitoring web sites operated by members, and links to books which show that we are apparently being fed a load of 'crap' about radiation and what is truly going on here.
    4) despite all that I have found out, I am still in the dark about the future of Fukishima, in fact we all are, because TPTB are not disclosing what is truly going on.

So... without re-writing these posts I am going to put the links to them here in case you would like to check out some of the information I've uncovered for yourself. Knowledge is power!

As I mentioned in a previous post I now have a Geiger Counter up and running on the following private citizen network: www.radiationnetwork.com We are the 4th site north of the bottom edge of California on the map... right next to the radiation symbol denoting the nearby nuclear plant here on the California coast.

As I've gotten further into understanding this monitoring system which is kept up by volunteers like me, I've found out some interesting things. This is a great page to become familiar with: http://www.radiationnetwork.com/Message.htm. This particular 'non-fear mongering' quote from that site is useful to us all here at Avalon:
Quote Update: 3/11/12, 5:15 P.M. - Fukushima Anniversary - What we have learned...

Reflecting on this 1 year anniversary of the Fukushima disaster, here are a few observations, some of which are obvious, but which still bear repeating, and others not necessarily apparent to the novice in this specialized field of radiation detection:
bullet Even before Fukushima, the Nuclear Age, and the Industrial Revolution, the Earth was, and to this day is being bombarded by cosmic radiation, which constitutes much of what we call background radiation. And given that the human species has survived, and even thrived amidst this radiation, most reasonable thinking people would conclude that normal background radiation is not harmful to your health.
bullet Almost all of the radiation levels that you see being reported on the Radiation Map represent normal background.
bullet The background radiation that does exist is a random event, so it is quite easy to confuse a momentary spike in background for radiation from a specific object or environment, instead. This is a very common mistake among novice users of radiation detectors.
bullet The immediate concern following a reactor meltdown is exposure to high levels of Gamma radiation both at the plant and in the surrounding area.
bullet As it turned out, those high Gamma levels emitted at Fukushima were detectable by most counters from as far away as perhaps 50 miles or even more, so given a similar incident in the US, God forbid, that is what we might expect as an immediate high danger zone.
bullet Having said that, here in the US, 5,000 miles distant from Fukushima, we saw no, to only slightly elevated levels at most, in so called environmental radiation in the air.
bullet The secondary health risk to the general public associated with a meltdown is downstream contamination of soil, food and water. We know from multiple and reliable tests that Japanese soils as far as 200 miles away were significantly contaminated by precipitation-borne radiation from the meltdown.
bullet We also know that at least trace contaminants made their way to parts of the US, presumably riding on the jet stream - this according to government agencies.
bullet We have learned that while Geiger counters are very effective at detecting elevated gamma radiation levels within reasonable distance of a meltdown, that they have limitations beyond that, in part because they are being asked to detect low level radiation in substances that, by definition, are not normally radioactive. The more sensitive models, when used procedurally correct, have a chance at detecting some contaminated foods, but only down to a certain level.
bullet I have learned (and probably should have known this) that rain and snow can be naturally radioactive, due to the presence of naturally occurring Radon gas in the atmosphere, along with oxygen, nitrogen, etc., and that the decaying daughter products of that Radon gas can trigger a radiation detector.
bullet Therefore, it is not enough to determine that captured rainwater is radioactive to then conclude it was made so from the by-products of a melting nuclear fission reactor. One must go a step further and identify the particular isotopes that are emitting the radiation, to determine if they are "foreign".
bullet Specialized equipment and/or radiation collection and concentration processes are needed for that isotope ID, which is beyond the economic and technical means of most people.
bullet Many people in Japan and America (and in the US especially since the volatile 1960's) do not trust the Government to be honest and transparent with the public.
bullet Independent radiation monitoring by the citizens, such as done by the Radiation Network or the Safecast group in Japan, therefore serve a valuable role in society.
bullet Beyond general monitoring, this Network in particular, is designed as an early warning system, capable of alerting the general public within 1 minute of a Fukushima-like disaster, providing we have stations reasonably near the disaster zone.
bullet Something as simple as the process of cooling water, and yet so critical to safe operation of a nuclear reactor, when it fails, starts yet another type of chain reaction of dangerous events. If we are to maintain nuclear power as an energy source, we must learn from the Fukushima example and employ those lessons in making our plants safer, or in certain cases perhaps, justifying closure.
There are other interesting articles available on that page... in particular, there is an article about how radioactive a patient being treated in a medical situation for cancer is (very scary!) and how much radiation you get on an airplane and in the airport terminals. Very interesting read

And here is a Poor Man's way to analyze rainfall and/or paper air filters to see if radioactive isotopes are present. I have 'bolded' the portion of the quote with information we can use about this topic: (from http://www.radiationnetwork.com/Message.htm)

    Quote Update: 3/18/12, 9:00 A.M. - A Poor Man's Radioactive Isotope Identifier

On March 17th, the Nokaoi station in Durham, NC detected an elevated level of radiation high enough to trigger the Alert system on the Radiation Network. He operates an external probe Detector built around the same ultra-sensitive pancake-style GM tube as is used in the Inspector models. In this case, his detector was outdoors on the porch during a severe thunderstorm, protected from the rain.

By now, most of us know that radioactive rainfall can be naturally radioactive due to the decay of Radon gas daughter products brought down by the precipitation. The same principle can apply to a radioactive filter in a building's HVAC system. So how does one determine whether or not the radiation detected by his or her Geiger counter falls into the "natural" category, versus something more sinister? Well, there are a couple of choices:

Invest in specialized equipment of Gamma Spectroscopy, for instance, designed to identify the radiation by isotope, such as the man-made group of Iodine 131, Cesium 137, and Plutonium 239, etc. that are byproducts of nuclear fission, versus the naturally occurring Radon gas daughter products. These analytical systems range in price from $5,000 to $20,000 and require a technical skill level.

Or, for those of us who can not afford such a system, use what I call the Poor Man's Radioactive Isotope Identifier. So what's that? Well, it's the same Geiger counter you used to determine that your rainfall or filter was radioactive in the first place. Huh? That's right - preserve the radioactive sample of rainwater, or the air filter, and then scan it a day later. If the readings have subsided to normal by the next day, that's an indicator that the source of radiation was the short half-lived, naturally occurring Radon gas daughter products. But if the radiation level remains elevated instead, that points to the presence of "foreign" isotope contaminates of I, Sr, Cs, Pu, etc. all of which have longer half-lives, ranging from weeks to millions of years.

So, to use the Nokaoi station as an example, if he captures some of that rainwater from the passing storm, immediately scans it to confirm that the sample is radioactive, then comes back a day later and surveys that same water, finding that the readings remain elevated, then that is bad news. At that point, Nokaoi would be well advised to send the sample to a lab that uses the specialized equipment described above, that could confirm the presence of dangerous, man-made radioactive isotopes.

Wow, Dawn, I would love to believe this reassuring view, but in view of what Bill Ryan and others have posted on this thread:
    https://projectavalon.net/forum4/show...tion-IMPORTANT
    it seems pretty far-fetched.
update: Though I should probably add that I am actually optimistic about the radioactivity problem, since I think that the rising frequencies are going to take care of a lot, and Earth's lifeforms will not be so vulnerable to various toxins, viruses, etc. as we progress into 4D.

As I see it, the question is, how long will that take and how vulnerable are we in the meantime, especially depending on where we are situated in relation to Fukushima and other reactors, etc.

    Where is Japan’s Missing Plutonium?
Quote "Twenty-four years ago, in 1988, I was living in Japan for the first time and starting to learn a little about the frightening aspects of Japan’s nuclearization. Back then, a small booklet by a writer who was often described as “just a housewife” had become a powerful catalyst of the anti-nuclear movement. The title and author’s name are lost to me now, and my google searches came up empty. At that time, I read an English translation of it and shared it with some friends. It was horrifying enough to become one of my reasons to go back to Canada, but when years passed without a disaster happening, my good sense subsided and I returned to Japan in 1994.

Back in 1988, I remember talking about the book with friends, and one big question we had was why Japan had no declared nuclear weapons but was also unopposed by the global community in its desire to possess huge stocks of plutonium. Everyone knows the familiar line that Japan is the only country to have experienced an attack with atomic weapons, it has a peace constitution, and it would never allow nuclear weapons on its territory, blah, blah, blah…. But still, why the plutonium?

We were cynical to enough to suggest that Japan really had a secret nuclear weapons program, or had a program which would allow for the rapid development of nuclear weapons. Nonetheless, it was difficult to get anyone to take such a suggestion seriously. Japan had done an excellent job of establishing its image as a peaceful country dedicated to the elimination of nuclear weapons. This is certainly true of a large sector of Japanese society, but government policy and action have never reflected this goal.

It turns out our suspicions were not in the realm of deluded conspiracy theory. A recent study entitled United States Circumvented Laws To Help Japan Accumulate Tons of Plutonium was published on April 9 by the American Public Education Center. This article is long, but well worth the read.

Japan’s allies and the IAEA have had little to say about the fact “that Japan has lost track of more than 70 kilograms of weapons-grade plutonium at its accident plagued Tokai reprocessing plant – enough to make more than 20 nuclear weapons.” When unfavored nations handle enriched uranium or plutonium, they are called to account on every gram of it, and the media reports on transgressions relentlessly, but Japan just seems to have “misplaced” it.

The same hypocrisy goes for missile programs. The article describes how Japan was developing its nuclear industry and simultaneously investing heavily in rocket technology and satellite programs. Every honest observer knows that all rockets are dual use technology. This article by the PEC comes at a good time as we witness this week the hypocritical denunciations of North Korea’s attempt at launching an “aggressive” missile into space. I give no support to the dictatorship of North Korea, but seriously, what do the four surrounding nuclear powers (Russia, China, the US and Japan) think is motivating their enemy to want nuclear weapons and rockets?"

Question Re: A Coverup -California Northwest USA BC Canada under radiation threat as high as J

What Is the United States Government Waiting For?

"This the latest assessment of Fukushima, by one of Japan's leading international figures.

Akio Matsumura is a career diplomat and the founder and Secretary General of the Global Forum of Spiritual and Parliamentary Leaders on Human Survival with conferences held in Oxford, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, Kyoto, and Konya."
    S. A. Schwartz

AKIO MATSUMURA - Akio Marsumura Blog

We continue to post the opinions of many international scientists on the potential global catastrophe that would result from the collapse of Reactor 4 at Fukushima Dai-ichi. The message now is simple and clear-Japan’s government will not act; it is the United States who must step forward-yet no action has been taken.

I was amazed when I heard that one million Japanese had read our article that introduces Ambassador Mitsuhei Murata’s courageous appeal at the public hearing of the House of Councilors of Japan and Robert Alvarez’s famous figure that there is 85 times greater Cesium-137 at Fukushima than at Chernobyl accident. People from 176 nations have visited our blog and Ambassador Murata and Robert Alvarez have been quoted in online and print media in many of them. Despite this global attention, the Japanese government seems to be further from taking action to deal with the growing dangers of ...
