Yup, a Briggs with an automobile alternator makes a nice 12-V DC Generator. I have one that I can use to charge my Battery Bank if the power is out, sun isn't shining on the solar panels, and the battery bank is low. I took it one step further - the output of the Alternator is keeping a Deep Cycle Marine Battery topped off and I have a 750-watt inverter inline with it, giving me 12-V DC and 110-AC. Now i'm inherently frugal and used a cheap inverter, but will power a few non-particular items. I've mostly i've used mine for overnight battery bank charging though.
