Default Higher daily doses of vitamin D lower risk of preterm births

All pregnant women should take 4,000 international units of vitamin D daily — 10 to 20 times the dose the leaders of Canada's pregnancy specialists currently recommend — to lower their risk of preterm labour, preterm birth and infections concludes the first study to investigate the safety of high doses of vitamin D during pregnancy.

The study found that women in its 4,000-IU-a-day group had half the risk of premature delivery than women who took just 400 IU of vitamin D daily

I take 10,000 IU a day but then again I live far up north. The more sun you get the less you need to take. I got tested for my Vit D levels a while back and was at 16ng/mL (40nmol L) which is extreme deficiency! Vit D is super important for many functions within the body. Good post Celine.

I have really being trying to top up on sunshine and a couple of weeks ago had a really good Sunday (all day in the sun with nowt on), it really does make a difference. I even felt a kind of natural exhilaration and a very strong feeling of well being (I also felt postive and alive for days after). Catching even half an hour a day of strong sunlight releases 5000-10,000 iirc and the good thing is that the body stores it for weeks.

In all ages, in all lands, there have been those who seek truth. This seeking is an individual's search for something more than self, and much more than the confines of this worldly system. It is the seeker, who understands there is more than what meets the eye, who is not afraid and makes the choice to go into the unknown. The process of awaking has begun, the discovery is underway.

Hi Celine, do you know about Gabrielle Staehler, a German "naturpraktikerin" who is talking about vit. D in an interview with Bill Ryan on the Camelot library? She's on You Tube too, I believe.
She's mentioning the need of higher intake of vit. D too, although for periods of time. The sun creates far more vit. D in the body than supplements can do and the risk of to much fat intake, in the form of oily supplements doesn't play a role, with sunshine creating vit. D in the body. As a healthfoodconsultant in training, I asked my diet-teacher about the intake of high amounts of vit. D and he told me to be careful with very high doses for a long period, because eventually the body-tissues undergoe a hardening effect, a kind of calcification so to speak. For me it's a variety of fresh foods and outdoor activities, along with vit. L (: that helps to keep healthy and fit. The world health organisation is going to change the amount of daily IU of vit. D, since it never changed since the fifties. Nowadays, much more people are inside buildings all day and the fear of sunshine, regarding skincancer, doesn't help much too. Thanks for this thread!

    Hi

I take 50,000 IU D3 daily, and since the body [regardless of pregnant or not] makes up to 20,000 IU D3 every 20mins with good exposure to good sunlight, i dont see what such a minimal 4,00IU would really do. Although it is 3600 times more than the leagally stated and completely pointless EU maximum daily dose [400IU].

My skin is amazing because of what i take, and im starting to produce a natural tan and i havent had a holiday in 3 years and i feel healthier than ive ever done, so, Go on take a little bit more

    Regards
    Joslin

You must strive to be the change you wish to see in the world, because the world is how "you" make it, not just for you, but everyone else.
