Default Egyptian Antiquities Chief Hawass sentenced to one year in prision

Minister of State for Antiquities Zahi Hawass has been sentenced to one year of hard labor and a LE1000 fine for failing to fulfill a court ruling over a land dispute. He has also been relieved of his duties as minister.

The sentence was issued by Councilor Abdel Hakim Abdel Hafiz of the Giza Criminal Court.

The plaintiff had filed a lawsuit against Hawass -- prior to his appointment as minister -- in which he accused Hawass of failing to adhere to a court ruling in favor of his opponent over a land dispute when he was in charge of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA).

It's bad to wish ill will on anyone. I hope he takes the opportunity to reflect upon his life's work and decide that he wants a better legacy for himself. Zawi Hawass - be known as the man who spilled the beans and tell mankind about all the Egyptian stuff that has been hidden.

Agreed @Kersley. An independent, but qualified excavation should be organized.

Default Antiquities chief Zahi Hawass sentenced to one year in jail

Zahi Hawass was sentenced to one year in jail Sunday for declining to fulfill a court ruling.

Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs Zahi Hawass has been sentenced to one year in jail on Sunday for refusing to fulfill a court ruling over a land dispute.

The Egyptian criminal court also said Hawass must be relieved of his governmental duties and ordered him to pay a LE1000 penalty.

Hawass failed to adhere to a ruling in favour of his opponent over a land dispute when he was in charge of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA).

The SCA appealed the court ruling, arguing that the land includes monuments and therefore should be treated as government-owned land.

Hawass was recently re-appointed as antiquities chief in the newly-formed cabinet of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf.

Hawass has always given me a bad feeling. He is just a mean guy. Ever watch how he treats other people that work with him in excavations? He makes people cry.

The picture above is from the recovery of artifacts that were stolen from the Egyptian museum in Janurary.

Here's a picture from the actual article relating to his sentence.

This so called archeologist is just the tip of the iceberg.
How many colleages of Hawass have also hidden or kept some ancient artifact from the population.
How many museums around the world have ancient human arifacts stashed away in thier basements.
    Really makes me very angry.

Im with you Kersley. Out of all the esoteric research Ive done the hidden history of humans is the area Ive been most fascinated about for the longest time.

We may see some exciting revelations about our past come out of Egypt now.

My dear friends, It pains me to see us harbour thoughts of violence towards those who cheated us. We must rise above retaliation and feeling of satisfaction for others misery, or we risk sinking. Is it right to say " I am happy to see this man suffers or that woman suffers, because they deserve it?". What if that person was you? My friends, please forgive me for saying this. Let us not despise anyone anywhere, through anger or irritation we should not wish for another to suffer or come to harm.
