wow, kt, that is the strangest cloud i have ever seen. the sky has really been doing weird things lately. check out charlie pecos' thread about weird weather. i have a link on there regarding what happened in the sky where i live not to long ago. thanks for the thread, gives me something freaky to ponder while i'm at work today.

we had freak storms last night-came out of nowhere right over oklahoma and basically vanished at the stateline. that rolling cloud is very strange indeed. the ptb are tinkering bigtime with the weather, I'm a little concerned. devistating communities creates lots of construction work thus helping the local economy. the ptb help you by destroying your neighborhood. No short supply of egomanics.

I'd be interested to know if there was a line of storms in the vicinity. Not saying this is it, but often we have similar formations here called gust fronts. When a mature thunderstorm begins to collapse, it forces out a massive wall of air called a gust front. It races outward ahead the storm forming an impressive looking cloud bank, then it turns briefly gusty as it rapidly moves through. Sometimes these can be the catalyst to spark a new round of storms.

    And now for sports...

This is a rather intense midwest version, but the idea is the same.

Since clouds are made by warm air and cool air colliding I suppose there must be opposite wind directions, of different temperatures, where they meet condensation droplets form, and so you get your cloud.
What makes it roll along is one wind blowing harder than the other...

Now, what does this tell us about the weather at Avalon today?

Partly sunny with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Try living a day without weather. It would probably be really boring.
