BP Oil Spill: Against Gov. Jindal's Wishes, Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard

Eight days ago, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered barges to begin vacuuming crude oil out of his state's oil-soaked waters. Today, against the governor's wishes, those barges sat idle, even as more oil flowed toward the Louisiana shore.

"It's the most frustrating thing," the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. "Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges."
Watch "World News" for David Muir's report from Louisiana tonight.

Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.

"These barges work. You've seen them work. You've seen them suck oil out of the water," said Jindal.

Corporate atrocities against nature may ultimately destroy human civilization

(NaturalNews) What's most striking about the present BP oil catastrophe is not that it is an aberration but rather part of a dangerous pattern of mankind's propensity to destroy nature. To destroy life in a large region of an ocean isn't even new: The world already has over two hundred "dead zones" where fish can't live because the ocean water has no more oxygen left thanks to the runoff effects of man-made chemicals.

Not content with mere deforestation and the vast destruction of biodiversity on land, Man has now expanded to destroy the oceans through overfishing, ocean acidification from CO2 emissions, agricultural runoff, flushing pharmaceuticals down the drain and unleashing crude oil directly into the ocean waters. It almost seems as if mankind were somehow bent on destroying itself by first destroying everything else on the planet just to see what happens.

Human beings, by any honest accounting, are repeat offenders engaged in crimes against nature. This article, by the way, isn't some clever way to try to push us all toward a U.N.-controlled world government where every human action is regulated by environmental cops; it's merely an observation of what's really happening right now on our planet. I'm a Constitutionalist and remain strongly opposed to UN control as much as any properly-informed American. In no way do I support suppressing our individual freedoms or liberties. In fact, the problems here are not with the People but rather with the corporations.

    The criminal corporations

It is the corporations that are committing these crimes against nature: Big Pharma's mass poisoning of the waters, BP's oil catastrophe crime against the planet in the Gulf Coast, the manufacture of Depleted Uranium shells by wealthy "defense" contractors, factory farming by meat producers, the poisoning of our farms by Monsanto and its campaign to dominate nature with genetically modified seeds... you get the picture. If you really look hard at the issues, it's the corporations who are destroying our planet and thereby destroying future survivability for the rest of us.

It is the corporations, in essence, that are the criminals who are now destroying the very world around us, and if We the People continue to let these corporations engage in such actions, it won't be long before we wake up and find ourselves enslaved in a Corporatocracy that has stolen from us the very world in which we had hoped to raise our children.

What is abundantly clear now is that corporations will do anything to make money, from the cruel and inhumane factory farming of cows to dumping millions of gallons of toxic chemicals in the ocean to try to sink the dead sea animals in the Gulf. Corporations would set fire to the entire planet if that act could somehow boost profits by 50% next quarter.

BP's Largest Shareholder says Oil Spill Good for the Economy

JP Morgan says that the Gulf oil spill will help the economy.

This is an odd thing to say, given that the spill is our modern dust bowl, which could very well deepen and prolong our economic woes.

What might explain such an odd statement?

Well, JPM is apparently BP's largest shareholder. So happy talk meant to drive BP's share prices higher can only help JPM.

Then again, maybe JPM's prop desk is making a fortune shorting BP, just like Goldman famously shorted the CDOs it was selling like hotcakes.

BP Aware Of Cracks In Oil Well Two Months Before Explosion

BP was aware of cracks appearing in the Macondo well as far back as February, right around the time Goldman Sachs and BP Chairman Tony Hayward were busy dumping their stocks in the company on the eve of the explosion that led to the oil spill, according to information uncovered by congressional investigators.

The Mining and Mineral Services agency released documents to Bloomberg indicating that BP “was trying to seal cracks in the well about 40 miles (64 kilometers) off the Louisiana coast,” according to the report.

The fissures, which BP began to attempt to fix on February 13, could have played a role in the disaster, though this is a question still being explored by investigators. Improperly sealed, the cracks cause explosive natural gas to rush up the shaft.

“The company attempted a “cement squeeze,” which involves pumping cement to seal the fissures, according to a well activity report. Over the following week the company made repeated attempts to plug cracks that were draining expensive drilling fluid, known as “mud,” into the surrounding rocks,” states the report.

As we previously highlighted, eyewitness evidence indicates that Deepwater Horizon managers knew that the BP oil rig had major problems before its explosion on April 20. A crew member who rescued burning workers on the rig told Houston attorney Tony Buzbee of a conversation between Deepwater Horizon installation manager Jimmy Harrell and someone in Houston. According to the witness, Harrell was screaming, “Are you ****ing happy? Are you ****ing happy? The rig’s on fire! I told you this was gonna happen.”

The fact that BP managers were aware of problems with the rig and were seemingly unconcerned about fixing them only lends more weight to the already startling indications of some having foreknowledge of the disaster.

'Evasive' BP Boss Denounced By Congress

BP chief Tony Hayward has been blasted for "insulting the intelligence" of a US congressional committee investigating the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Mr Hayward was grilled for more than five hours on Capitol Hill over BP's role in the country's worst environmental disaster.

But he was repeatedly accused of being evasive as he deflected a barrage of tough questions from the committee.

Mr Hayward denied BP had been reckless or put saving time and money ahead of safety concerns on the Deepwater Horizon rig which exploded in April with the loss of 11 workers.

He said: "There is nothing I have seen so far that suggests that anyone put costs ahead of safety. If there are, then we'll take action.

But he added that he had not been involved in the decision-making process and would rather await the outcome of several on-going investigations before passing judgement.

But New York congressman Eliot Engel told him: "Mr Hayward, let me just say, with all due respect: I, like everyone else here, and everyone else in America, am thoroughly disgusted. I think you're stalling, I think you're insulting our intelligence and I really resent it."

In his opening remarks to the hearing, Mr Hayward said: "How could this happen? How damaging is the spill to the environment? Why is it taking so long to stop the flow of oil and gas in the Gulf? We don't yet have all the answers to these important questions."

But his controlled and softly-spoken performance appeared to enrage the panel of politicians, most of whom face re-election fights in November.

If you didn't watch 360, last night on CNN...

Grassley questions when BP knew early oil leak estimate
    By Jeanne Meserve

Washington (CNN) -- Did BP know the Deepwater Horizon well could be gushing as much as 60,000 barrels of oil a day, and fail to inform the public of that? Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, wants to know.

A team of government and independent scientists announced Tuesday that the flow rate might be as high as 60,000 barrels a day, but Grassley believes BP may have known sooner.

A BP document provided to the senator says "an absolute worst case flow rate of 60,000 barrels a day was calculated." The document does not have a date.
    _____________________________________

So far, best guess is the document is at least from May.
This means that while BP was saying "1,000 bbls. .... no 5,000 bbls. ..... no wait! 12,000 bbls. ... ", they bloody well knew this pig was spilling something 60, ... no 12, .... no 5 times more that what they claimed.

Ya know, I really really really hate people who say it, but... I TOLD YOU SO!!

What really amazes me here is:
BP appears convinced that they're still going to find some teeny little window of sunshine in all this that will let them lie their way out of this!

I had a couple other things on my mind, but I can't find it without more coffee.
Will post again when the plumbing backs up.

Gulf oil full of methane, adding new concerns

By MATTHEW BROWN and RAMIT PLUSHNICK-MASTI (AP) – 7 hours ago
NEW ORLEANS — It is an overlooked danger in oil spill crisis: The crude gushing from the well contains vast amounts of natural gas that could pose a serious threat to the Gulf of Mexico's fragile ecosystem.

The oil emanating from the seafloor contains about 40 percent methane, compared with about 5 percent found in typical oil deposits, said John Kessler, a Texas A&M University oceanographer who is studying the impact of methane from the spill.

That means huge quantities of methane have entered the Gulf, scientists say, potentially suffocating marine life and creating "dead zones" where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives.
"This is the most vigorous methane eruption in modern human history," Kessler said.

Methane is a colorless, odorless and flammable substance that is a major component in the natural gas used to heat people's homes. Petroleum engineers typically burn off excess gas attached to crude before the oil is shipped off to the refinery. That's exactly what BP has done as it has captured more than 7.5 million gallons of crude from the breached well.

A BP spokesman said the company was burning about 30 million cubic feet of natural gas daily from the source of the leak, adding up to about 450 million cubic feet since the containment effort started 15 days ago. That's enough gas to heat about 450,000 homes for four days.

But that figure does not account for gas that eluded containment efforts and wound up in the water, leaving behind huge amounts of methane.

BP PLC said a containment cap sitting over the leaking well funneled about 619,500 gallons of oil to a drillship waiting on the ocean surface on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a specialized flare siphoning oil and gas from a stack of pipes on the seafloor burned roughly 161,700 gallons.

Thursday was focused on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers chastised BP CEO Tony Hayward.

Testifying as oil still surged into the Gulf at between 1.47 million and 2.52 million gallons a day, coating more coastal land and marshes, Hayward declared "I am so devastated with this accident," "deeply sorry" and "so distraught."

But he also said he was out of the loop on decisions at the well and disclaimed knowledge of any of the myriad problems on and under the Deepwater Horizon rig before the deadly explosion. BP was leasing the rig the Deepwater Horizon that exploded April 20, killing 11 workers and triggering the environmental disaster.

"BP blew it," said Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., chairman of the House investigations panel that held the hearing. "You cut corners to save money and time."

As for the methane, scientists are still trying to measure how much has escaped into the water and how it may damage the Gulf and it creatures.

The dangerous gas has played an important role throughout the disaster and response. A bubble of methane is believed to have burst up from the seafloor and ignited the rig explosion. Methane crystals also clogged a four-story containment box that engineers earlier tried to place on top of the breached well.

Now it is being looked at as an environmental concern.

Matt Simmons Revises Leak Estimate To 120,000 Barrels Per Day, Believes Oil Covers 40% Of Gulf Beneath The Surface

Matt Simmons was on Bloomberg earlier, adding some additional perspective to his original appearance on the station, in which he initially endorsed the nuclear option as the only viable way to resolve the oil spill. Simmons refutes even the latest oil spill estimate of 45,000-60,000 barrels per day, and in quoting research by the Thomas Jefferson research vessel which was compiled late on Sunday, quantifies the leak at 120,000 bpd. What is scarier is that according to the Jefferson the oil lake underneath the surface of the water could be covering up to 40% of the entire Gulf of Mexico. Simmons also says that as the leak has no casing, a relief well will not work, and the only possible resolution is, as he said previously, to use a small nuclear explosion to convert the rock to glass. Simmons concludes that as punishment for BP's arrogance and stupidity the government "will take all their cash." Now if only our own administration could tell us the truth about what is really happening in the gulf...

Once BP’s oil mixes with water it “can actually ruin refineries”; “Has to be disposed of as garbage” at landfills

Oil giant BP is facing a huge new challenge in disposing of the millions of gallons of potentially toxic oil sludge its crews are collecting from the Gulf of Mexico, according to industry experts and veterans of past spills.

Crews so far have skimmed and sucked up 21.1 million gallons of oil mixed with water, according to the Deepwater Horizon Unified Command. Because the out-of-control well may continue spewing for months, that total almost certainly will surge.

BP’s plan for handling the gooey mess, written in conjunction with the Coast Guard, the Environmental Protection Agency and Louisiana officials, calls for reclaiming or recycling as much as possible.
Some experts said that approach is the best option for the environment, but it has not worked in previous spills. It is not profitable to refine sludge that has mixed with water and seagoing debris because it can actually ruin refineries, they said.

“It has no longer got any economic value. It has to be disposed of as garbage,” said Marc Jones, a former Navy officer who helped oversee numerous oil spill cleanups, including the 1989 Exxon Valdez in Alaska. “The stuff that got recovered from the Exxon Valdez was just a nightmare.”

Alert: “Sharks are showing up in surprisingly shallow water off Florida beaches” says AP; “Crowding in close to shore”

Dolphins and sharks are showing up in surprisingly shallow water off Florida beaches…

Birds covered in oil are crawling deep into marshes, never to be seen again.

Marine scientists studying the effects of the BP disaster are seeing some strange phenomena.

Fish and other wildlife seem to be fleeing the oil out in the Gulf and clustering in cleaner waters along the coast in a trend that some researchers see as a potentially troubling sign.

The animals’ presence close to shore means their usual habitat is badly polluted, and the crowding could result in mass die-offs as fish run out of oxygen. Also, the animals could easily be devoured by predators. …

” There will be a lot of fish, sharks, turtles trying to get out of this water they detect is not suitable,” said Larry Crowder, a Duke University marine biologist.

The nearly two-month-old spill has created an environmental catastrophe unparalleled in U.S. history as tens of millions of gallons of oil have spewed into the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem. Scientists are seeing some unusual things as they try to understand the effects on thousands of species of marine life.

Urgent - Radioactive Oil From BP Blowout!
    Posted At Godlike Productions

    6-18-10

Geiger Counter Results On Gulf Oil - Vid

This is going to blow the roof off of the scope of this disaster. This is why people are getting sick. This is why they are using Corexit in such quantities, this is why there aren't many ships out there. The radioactivity is beyond safe levels.

Remeber 'Alas, Babylon' while you read.

Lets first start with Eugene Island 330.

    The mystery of Eugene Island.

Eugene island is a submerged geological feature like an underwater mountain 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana. The landscape is littered with deep fissures and faults which gush large amounts of oil and gas. A platform named Eugene Island 330 was producing 15,000 barrels of oil in the early 1970's. By the late 80's, the flow has reduced to 4,000 barrels a day. Then suddenly a mysterious thing happened. Production at Eugene Island 330 suddenly jumped back to 13,000 barrels a day. The reserve was refilled just like that. It is estimated the reserves went from 60 million barrels to 400 million barrels in a few days time. Something very strange is happening under the Gulf of Mexico.

What happened at Eugene Island supports the growing theory that oil is renewable from deep Earth processes. But don't let the general population know this. This aids to explain why the Middle East oil feilds seem to be inexhaustable.

Scientists noticed oils chemical composition did not change as fossil records had changed. Many scientist now believe oil is not created by decomposing remains of life since areas of very different ecospheres are producing oil of equal composition.

But there is much more to talk about the new discoveries of deep oil. Something very dangerous lurks in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Keep in mind the reserve Deepwater was drilling happens to be the deepest offshore reserve to date. Also keep in mind how we learned oil is sourced from deep below the Earths crust. Further down then mankind has been able to study and observe.

Helium is a naturally occurring gas formed in oil reserves. So common that helium detectors have been used to discover oil reserves. Helium is an inert gas known to be a by-product from the radiological decay of uranium and thorium. Uranium and Thorium are known to be in great quantities at greater depths. Yes, radioactive elements occur naturally and can be found and detected in trace amounts in shallow oil reserves. Oil reserves that do not produce large amounts of methane also lack uranium and thorium. The presence of methane is proportional to the presence of uranium and thorium, both radioactive elements.

    Yes, you read that correctly!

The more methane that is present reflects the amount of Uranium and Thorium in the oil reserve. The deeper the oil, the younger the radiological decay is that produces helium. The Eugene Island 330 rig was replenished showing deep oil is resupllying the more shallow oil reserves in the Gulf of Mexico just off the coast of Louisiana.

Anadarko blasts BP for 'reckless actions'

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Anadarko Petroleum, a minority partner in the ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico, blamed BP for "reckless" behavior, seeking to distance itself from the worst oil spill in US history.

"The mounting evidence clearly demonstrates that this tragedy was preventable and the direct result of BP's reckless decisions and actions," Anadarko chief executive Jim Hackett said in a statement issued late Friday.

Anadarko, which owns 25% of the Macondo well where the Deepwater Horizon rig was drilling, signed a contract saying that it would pay a quarter of the costs associated with the well, unless BP is found guilty of gross negligence.

"BP's behavior and actions likely represent gross negligence or willful misconduct and thus affect the obligations of the parties under the operating agreement," Hackett said.

On April 20, an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon killed 11 workers, and the well is now spewing millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Allen: Oil collection rate from ruptured Gulf well increasing

You've seen the devastation. Now it's your chance to help. Tune in Monday night for a special "Larry King Live, Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help" telethon featuring an all-star panel of guests joining forces in the Gulf region. Don't miss "Larry King Live," 8 ET Monday night on CNN.

(CNN) -- Efforts to contain oil gushing from BP's ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico are becoming more effective, according to Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the federal government's point man for the disaster.

Approximately 25,000 barrels of oil -- slightly more than 1 million gallons -- were collected from the well in the 24-hour period ending at midnight Thursday, Allen told reporters Friday. The total represents an increase of nearly 6,700 barrels -- or roughly 281,000 gallons -- compared with Wednesday's tally.

Federal officials anticipate a total collection capacity of up to 80,000 barrels per day by July.

A team of government and independent scientists announced Tuesday that the flow rate from the well might be as high as 60,000 barrels a day.

On Thursday, Allen said the drilling of two relief wells -- viewed as the ultimate solution to the Deepwater Horizon gusher -- was ahead of schedule, but he shied away from saying the well would be plugged early, citing the complexity of the operation.

BP Chief Tells Sky: 'CEO To Cede Oil Duties'

BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg has told Sky News that embattled chief executive Tony Hayward is to have a changed role in dealing with the oil spill.

The revelation came as BP denied claims from one of its partners that its handling of the Gulf of Mexico leak amounted to "gross negligence".

Anadarko Petroleum said BP's behaviour in the run-up to the disaster was "reckless".

Asked by Sky's Jeff Randall about Mr Hayward's ongoing role, Mr Svanberg said: "He is now handing over the operation to Bob Dudley."

Robert Dudley has been the firm's managing director of the Americas and Asia since 2009, and prior to the appointment he was head of TNK-BP, Russia's third largest oil and gas company.

Mr Svanberg also told Randall that comments made by Mr Hayward have had a detrimental effect as the company seeks to control the fallout from the disaster.

"It is clear Tony has made remarks that have upset people," he said.

The chairman explained that the CEO left Britain for the US after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon rig with the express purpose of dealing with the oil spill response, but stopping the flow has not gone to plan.

"Everyone thought it would be done faster," Mr Svanberg added.

BP's strategy had been for Mr Hayward to be the company's primary voice - but the oil firm has struggled with public relations, especially after his Congressional roasting on Wednesday.

Mr Svanberg admitted the rig blowout is turning from an industrial accident into a broader political concern, with questions of the company's ongoing viability being raised.

Read the complete interview transcript with Mr Svanberg.

The company is also marking more than £6bn in assets to sell, as well as withholding dividend payments to shareholders, to fund compensation claims.

Jesse Woodrow – BP Chief Peter Sutherland exposed

Peter Sutherland, a known globalist, stands at the end of at least 7 different new world order front groups. He is even the chief financial officer for the Vatican! It has been heavily documented that Goldman Sachs placed shorts on the Gulf just days before the Deepwater Horizon Explosion. Did Goldman Sachs get inside information from the chairman of their international subsidiary. who just so happens to be a high ranking member of British Petroleum?

He is non-executive Chairman of Goldman Sachs International (a registered UK broker-dealer, a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs). He was previously non-executive chairman of BP and was a director of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group until he was asked to leave the board when it had to be taken over by the UK government to avoid bankruptcy. He also formerly served on the board of ABB.
He is on the steering committee of the Bilderberg Group [1], a chairman of the Trilateral Commission[2] and vice chairman of the European Round Table of Industrialists.[3]

BP seeking billions for Gulf cleanup

Energy giant BP is asking for billion-dollar loans to help it resolve the oil spill crisis as crude continues to gush from an underwater well in the Gulf of Mexico.

BP PLC, battling to contain the oil spill under the Gulf of Mexico, now is seeking loans of $1 billion from each of seven banks to raise up to $7 billion.

The corporation may also raise five billion dollars in an unsecured bond.

US President Barack Obama has demanded that the company provide $20 billion for damage claims.

On Wednesday, BP announced plans to cut payments of dividends this year.

Experts say that despite different methods applied by BP for plugging the flow, 35 to 60 thousand barrels of oil are still spilling into the Gulf of Mexico every day.

Meanwhile, BP chief executive Tony Hayward has been relieved of day-to-day control of efforts to stop the oil spill, the company's chairman confirmed.

BP managing director Bob Dudley will now take charge of the response to the spill, which continues to threaten the Gulf Coast.
