Living in it means a house overrun by insects, snakes in the garden, pumas on the paths, heavy rains at least once a day.
But also clean, clean air, pure drinking water, with no meter (at least not yet, where I live)
beautiful flowers in abundance and endless fresh food.

    Just to rub it in-
the view from where I'm sitting...10 minutes ago, this morning.

and here is my garden as seen from the sofa...
no wall nor window to block the view, even though behind the sofa we have blinds to protect against wind driven rain.

mine too...northern Germany. My mother even further, East Prussia.
In her case the roots were ancient Greeks who went up north to the Baltic to search for amber.

To decide to live in the tropics and then actually do it takes some determination, organization, and time.
But it can be done. And it's worth the effort.
You just have to hold on to the dream.
I moved from England to Barbados in 1982, then ten years later to Costa Rica after marrying a Costa Rican.

First we lived in San Jose, the capital, before moving into the mountains.

Over 1000 miles of uninterrupted rain forest to the south east of where I now live, with rivers and waterfalls.
    Yet we have highspeed Internet.
If you buy food in the farmers market and own a property you can easily live on $500 a month.
Fantastic second hand clothes shops, cheap bus service, and cheap beer.
We hope to build an eco village here of ten one and two bedroom cabins
which we hope to rent out for $300 and $400 a month.
It's only a matter of selling another property first, so as to get the capital to start construction.

I need to thank you for this.
The lesson here for me was that it is easy to forget about paradise when it is under one's nose.

My husband really enjoyed the video, and to be reminded of how beautiful his country really is.

It made me want to go out there again, early in the morning, when the sunlight filters from a low angle.
