M1.2 and M1 solar flares, that's more activity than in months.

Yes, the sun has awakened a bit:

    From spaceweather.com:

Quote SOLAR ACTIVITY INTENSIFIES (UPDATED): Sunspot complex AR2565-AR2567 is crackling with M-class solar flares as magnetic fields threading the behemoth active regions stretch, twist, and re-connect. Mike Taormina photographed the sunspots' seething cores from his backyard observatory in Malta, New York:

"The sun was alive with activity today!" says Taormina. "I am constantly amazed at the impressive level of detail that a small solar telescope can capture under good seeing conditions."

Update: A series of explosions crossing the July 20-21 UT day boundary hurled two CMEs away from the sun's southwestern limb. Coronagraph images from SOHO show that the clouds are not heading directly for Earth. Nevertheless, glancing blows to our planet's magnetic field may be possible in 2 to 3 days. NOAA analysts are modeling the storm clouds now. Stay tuned for storm tracks.

The sun is indeed active. More flares.

Yes, also M2 flare today. Very interesting to see this much activity after a long quiet period.

"Three moderately strong solar flares were observed early Saturday morning around the departing region. The first was an M5.0 at 02:11 UTC (July 23). The second event, a strong M7.6 at 05:16 UTC, was quickly followed up by an impressive M5.5 event at 05:31 UTC. The third event (M5.5)"

I just noticed on spaceweather.com that there has been at least one M-flare today.... I don't know who-done-it yet, but will post just as soon as it gets reported:

Below is the only detail that I have found on the M-dlare that occured Aug 7th (from spaceweather.com):

Quote M-CLASS SOLAR FLARE: Earth-orbiting satellites detected an M1-class solar flare on Aug. 7th at 0700 UT along with a general increase in minor flare activity. Because NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is still recovering from safe-mode (triggered by the lunar transit of Aug. 2nd) we don't yet know what is the source of the flares. Stay tuned for updates.
The don't know where the flare came from !?! How convenient.... and people wonder how an asteroid could slip by the "observers" and blow us all to smitherines... HA!

    Here's a pict from SolarSolf, M1.3 from S12W70 peaking at 14:44 UTC:

That was folllowed closely with a C8.5 from N04E89 (2573) peaking at 15:09UTC:
