The weather is definitly getting cold quickly here in Ireland. Wearing winter clothes already! Down to 5 degrees celsius tonight, and overall temperatures have dropped much more dramatic and much earlier then what would be considered the norm.

Viking, Have you any more information on the gulf stream shutting down? I'm pretty sure that official satelite images would be tampered with in order to keep this under wraps. The earl of stirling isnt the first to have commented on this, Matt Simmons had a convenient "heart attack" after going public about the gulf stream being damaged. I'm also aware of pictures circulating that i have good reason to believe are authentic, of a laser beam coming down on the deepwater horizon moments before the initial explosion that was said to be the cause of the disaster. A fabricated event in that part of the world in that specific area on that specific rig indicates a well calculated plan to shut down the gulf stream.

This could be much more serious then the spillage of a few hundred thousand gallons of oil. Even with the well capped, is that really the end of our problems, or is it just the begining?

Thank you for your post, Jack. This reminds me of some info I have read before that if the gulf stream is stopped, it can start a mini ice-age and starvation. At that time I thought it may be caused by the ice meltdown from the Artic. Propbably the PTB wants to speed up this event with the oil spill. Time will tell if this "speculation" is true.

Abstract: BP Oil Spill may cause an irreparable damage to the Gulf Stream global climate thermoregulation activity.

The Gulf Stream importance in the global climate thermoregulation processes
is well assessed. The latest real time satellite (Jason, Topex/Poseidon, GeosatFollow-On, ERS-2, Envisat) data maps of May-June 2010 processed by CCAR1,2

(Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research), checked at Frascati

Laboratories by the means of the SHT congruent calculus3 and compared with past years data, show for the first time a direct evidence of the rapid breaking of the Loop Current, a warm ocean current, crucial part of the Gulf Stream.
As displayed both by the sea surface velocity maps and the sea surface height maps, the Loop Current broke down for the first time around May 18th and generated a clock wise eddy, which is still active (see Fig. 1).

Since comparative analysis with past satellite data until may 2010 didn’t show
relevant anomalies, it might be therefore plausible to correlate the breaking of
the Loop Current with the biochemical and physical action of the BP Oil Spill on the Gulf Stream.

It is reasonable to foresee the threat that the breaking of a crucial warm
stream as the Loop Current may generate a chain reaction of unpredictable
critical phenomena and instabilities due to strong non linearities which may
have serious consequences on the dynamics of the Gulf Stream thermoregulation activity of the Global Climate.

The earth's tilt, rotation and land/sea distribution affect the global weather patterns we observe.

While the weather varies from day-to-day at any particular location, over the years, the same type of weather will reoccur. The reoccurring "average weather" found in any particular place is called climate.

German climatologist and amateur botanist Wladimir Köppen (1846-1940) divided the world's climates into several major categories based upon general temperature profile related to latitude. These categories are as follows:
A - Tropical Climates
Tropical moist climates extend north and south from the equator to about 15° to 25° latitude. In these climates all months have average temperatures greater than 64°F (18°C) and annual precipitation greater than 59".
B - Dry Climates
The most obvious climatic feature of this climate is that potential evaporation and transpiration exceed precipitation. These climates extend from 20°-35° North and South of the equator and in large continental regions of the mid-latitudes often surrounded by mountains.
C - Moist Subtropical Mid-Latitude Climates
This climate generally has warm and humid summers with mild winters. Its extent is from 30°50° of latitude mainly on the eastern and western borders of most continents. During the winter, the main weather feature is the mid-latitude cyclone. Convective thunderstorms dominate summer months.
D - Moist Continental Mid-latitude Climates
Moist continental mid-latitude climates have warm to cool summers and cold winters. The location of these climates is poleward of the C climates. The average temperature of the warmest month is greater than 50°F (10°C), while the coldest month is less than -22°F (-30°C). Winters are severe with snowstorms, strong winds, and bitter cold from Continental Polar or Arctic air masses.
E - Polar Climates
Polar climates have year-round cold temperatures with the warmest month less than 50°F (10°C). Polar climates are found on the northern coastal areas of North America, Europe, Asia, and on the land masses of Greenland and Antarctica.
H - Highlands
Unique climates based on their elevation. Highland climates occur in mountainous terrain where rapid elevation changes cause rapid climatic changes over short distances.

The classical length of record to determine the climate for any particular place is 30 years, as defined by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The quantities most often observed are temperature, precipitation, and wind.


The "normals" are computed once every 10 years which helps to smooth out year-to-year variations. For example, the current 30-year normals were calculated from the actual weather data that occurred during the 30 years of 1971-2000. In 2011, a new set of 30-year normals will be calculated using the data from the period of 1981-2010. So, when you hear what the normal high and low temperature for your location, for example, they come from these 30-year averages.

The Jet Stream

Jet streams are relatively narrow bands of strong wind in the upper levels of the atmosphere.



The winds blows from west to east in jet streams but the flow often shifts to the north and south.



Jet streams follow the boundaries between hot and cold air. Since these hot and cold air boundaries are most pronounced in winter, jet streams are the strongest for both the northern and southern hemisphere winters.

Why does the jet stream winds blow from west to east? Recall from the previous section what the global wind patterns would be like if the earth was not rotating. (The warm air rising at the equator will move toward both poles.) We saw that the earth's rotation divided this circulation into three cells. The earth's rotation is responsible for the jet stream as well.

The motion of the air is not directly north and south but is affected by the momentum the air has as it moves away from the equator. The reason has to do with momentum and how fast a location on or above the Earth moves relative to the Earth's axis.



Your speed relative to the Earth's axis depends on your location. Someone standing on the equator is moving much faster than someone standing on a 45° latitude line. In the graphic (above right) the person at the position on the equator arrives at the yellow line sooner than the other two. Someone standing on a pole is not moving at all (except that he or she would be slowly spinning). The speed of the rotation is great enough to cause you to weigh one pound less at the equator than you would at the north or south pole.


The momentum the air has as it travels around the earth is conserved, which means as the air that's over the equator starts moving toward one of the poles, it keeps its eastward motion constant. The Earth below the air, however, moves slower as that air travels toward the poles. The result is that the air moves faster and faster in an easterly direction (relative to the Earth's surface below) the farther it moves from the equator.





In addition, with the three-cell circulations mentioned previously, the regions around 30° N/S and 50°-60° N/S are areas where temperature changes are the greatest. As the difference in temperature between the two locations increase, the strength of the wind increases. Therefore, the regions around 30° N/S and 50°-60° N/S are also regions where the wind, in the upper atmosphere, is the strongest.



The 50°-60° N/S region is where the polar jet located with the subtropical jet located around 30°N. Jet streams vary in height of four to eight miles and can reach speeds of more than 275 mph (239 kts / 442 kp/h).


The actual appearance of jet streams result from the complex interaction between many variables - such as the location of high and low pressure systems, warm and cold air, and seasonal changes. They meander around the globe, dipping and rising in altitude/latitude, splitting at times and forming eddies, and even disappearing altogether to appear somewhere else.






Jet streams also "follow the sun" in that as the sun's elevation increases each day in the spring, the jet streams shifts north moving into Canada by Summer.



As Autumn approaches and the sun's elevation decreases, the jet stream moves south into the United States helping to bring cooler air to the country.


Also, the jet stream is often indicated by a line on maps and by television meteorologist. The line generally points to the location of the strongest wind. Jet streams are typically wider and not as distinct but a region where the wind increase toward a core of strongest wind.


One way of visualizing this is consider a river. The river's current is generally the strongest in the center with decreasing strength as one approaches the river's bank. It can be said that jet streams are "rivers of air".

So with all these informations in english and of course most of the same informations in other language the preventive step in order to reduce morbidity and mortality for me was to write the following;

The importance of planning ahead for cold weather

I would like to share with you what I have learned from my family, from First Nations and from Technology on how to insulated yourself in winter.

I will talk about Boreal Hemisphere People but I presume a lot of the means can be apply to the Xouthern Hemisphere coutries.

We must first look at the NorthWind, this wind is the coldest one and the most sustained one in the winter.

As you know most of the house windows are directed towards the south because our ancesters where aware of this nasty North Wind.

The second coldest wind is the West Wind it often brings cold from the northwest.

So I will concentrated on this post to two walls of your house or appartment the North Wall and the West wall.

Usually our great grand parents used to grow trees about 25 feet from the house on the north side and the west side to sort of stop or deviate those Winds. Leave them there.

If you do not have trees don't worry there are many solutions as you will see.

WHen it Snow, do not fight Nature. Built snow banks about 10 feets from the two walls, you will notice that snow tends to accumulate there so follow the wind and bring this snow from the peripphery of your land of you two walls and bring it at about 10 feet from your house. Do that at the beginning, the Winds do not argue and will pilled up its Wind Snow on the lay out you will have done.

The fondation is important for those two walls put few bags of soil about 4 inches high along the the walls fondation, it will avoid more water to melt at the base of the fondation.

The Doors needs a strip of isolator, it is not expensive and stop the cold from getting in.

The windows,
You must first close your window tighly and start putting gell insulator but from the outside FIRST, then put some around each window inside.

Check for yourself with an incences stick if there is still wind coming trough.

Do not forget electrical plugs and interruptors with you incence stick should dhow you how much breeze comes from those.

Insulate them, depending of you country go to the hardware store and they will tell you ehat to use, never use piece of clothe or any flammable things, in a winter time it would start a house fire.

ALways make sure that your dryer is tightly fix (the hose that brings hot air outside) and always keep the door of the fryer and the door of that room close.

If you run on 110 volts by small heating fan of 600 watts and put them on the floor at the corner of your northern and western walls on the floor about 5 feets from the corner and avoid putting anything in front of it. NEVER LEAVE THIS WITHOUT ANY PRESENCE IN THE HOUSE, check once in the while if the fan wire is hot if so get it away, at 600 watts it is NOT supposed to heat therefore get it away.

I hope this will help, I will post more thing as time allows.

Hi Jack ... No I haven't although I have been keeping a close watch on this ... I'll post if i get any further info...I have been keeping an eye on temperatures in UK compared to Western Europe and far back as Moscow...And UK seems to be at the moment warmer than countries far east...it does seem colder though doesn't it!!! We'll see... early days yet...

I saw this photo for the first time last week on AstralWalkers post, unless this a fake, this takes the whole disaster to a new level, meaning if it came from a satellite it was a military, black ops or possibly even extraterrestrial hit. It would go a lot further than a just handful of rogue members in the Illuminati connected to BP. Similar to 9/11, it would take high level security clearance to pull it off...not a bunch of guys planning the event in caves 5000 miles away.

Britain has received its first autumn snowfalls for the year as a surprise cold snap sent millions reaching for the central heating controls this weekend.

Summer made a particularly swift exit from the Highlands as the first sprinklings of snow paid an early visit to the north of Scotland.

The last time Britain saw a September cold snap as severe as this current one was in 2003, when much of northern England was below freezing.

Two Scottish weather stations recorded record lows: Tulloch Bridge recorded a temperature of -4.2°C, and Tyndrum -4.4°C – the coldest temperatures recorded since the two stations opened in 1982 and 1990 respectively.

For the people of the Cairngorms particularly, it was a wintry end to September.

Snow fell on the Scottish mountain range overnight, and hill-walkers had to wear their winter woolies and specialist equipment as they enjoyed blue, sun-filled skies with slippery conditions underfoot

As usual it was the children who took best advantage with some of the earliest snowmen ever built on the Cairngorms.

However, there was insufficient snow for skiers to make an appearance, but staff at the resort were hoping for another bumper year on the slopes with advance winter sports bookings booming.

But there was a warning for hill-users, not against frostbite, but that there was a high risk of sunburn due to the cloudless atmosphere.

Although the nights are getting colder, Britain still has a long way to go to beat the record low September temperature of minus 6.7c (20f) in Dalwhinnie in the Highlands in September 1942.

Heavy snow across the world!!

CANADA: Marmot Basin above Jasper and Banff - Lake Louise, all in the Canadian province of Alberta, have reported big snow falls in the past week.

Over 20cm of snow blanketed Banff-Lake Louise in one fall alone.

Jasper's Marmot Basin also received over 10 cm of snow on 20th September with considerably more accumulation at higher elevations.

Last winter Marmot opened on November 11, its earliest opening date ever, with ideal snow conditions.

Another record year for Marmot?

So far this fall is shaping up to deliver a repeat performance of last year's early season snowfalls which helped contribute to Marmot's record setting year for attendance.

In Whistler the mountains have already received a dusting of snow and the resort is currently scheduled to open on November 25


FRANCE: In the Alps Tignes opened for business less than a month since it ended its summer snow season.


AUSTRIA: Six glacier ski areas are now open in Austria: the Stubai and Kaunertal glaciers along with Hintertux, Solden, Molltal and Pitztal glaciers.

The Kitzsteinhorn glacier, closed for a while, opened again last Wednesday with a 42cm base


SWITZERLAND: In Switzerland it's either Saas Fee or Zermatt with a 1m to 1.5m lying and terrain parks open.

"OK, we didn't need to dig out the cars and wear down jackets, but it's been snowing in resort this morning and settling just a tad above Verbier," says one of our readers/reporters, Guy Ordway. He works for the ski school


ITALY: In Italy Val Senales still has 1m base. It received a dusting of 5cm of new snow last weekend to freshen up its slopes.


FINLAND: In Finland, Ruka, has announced it plans to open next week on October 1st. It has Europe's longest ski season for a resort without a glacier, maintaining a snow slope for nearly nine months a year.


NEW ZEALAND: It's getting towards the end of the season in the southern hemisphere but New Zealand is seeing the biggest snowfalls of the winter to date at present.

"We have received heavy snow mainly from the west and north west since late last week. Whakapapa has gone from a depth of 1.3m's a week ago to over 2m,' said a statement from Mt Ruapehu.

"Turoa has received just as much snow but it has come with higher winds meaning the snow stake measurement hasn't changed as much. Don't be fooled though, conditions will be way better when the storm passes."

The extreme weather means most have had to close their slopes until the storm passes over.

"The spring storm of 2010 is frankly the worst in a generation. The last big dump of snow we had was 14 years ago in the winter of 1996, while the last time we had anything this severe was 38 years ago," said one farmer in New Zealand.


AUSTRALIA: There's been no fresh snow in Australia but conditions are still good at most ski areas thanks to the huge falls in August and subsequent top ups.

Thredbo for example still have 1.7m of snow lying at mid mountain.

At Falls Creek snow depths are a little lower, just above 1m, although deeper in the snow making areas.

It's a similar story at Mt Hotham that says it has finished snow making for the season.


CHILE: In Chile, Valle Nevado is in to the last few weeks of the season, but temperatures are still below freezing and the snow tally for the season has just passed the four metre mark.


At Portillo snow depths are 25-50cm with no new snow in the past week and Spring-like conditions.

ARGENTINA: Cerro Catedral is still open with a diminishing snow pack on upper slopes - now down to 1.7m.

Snow in Canada, especially those parts of Canada, at this time of year, is not particularly abnormal. A blast of snow in early October / Late Sept. is not uncommon even in my area, and I'm pretty south by comparison. Now, if it were to start snowing tomorrow, and not melt until spring, then I would be a bit intrigued (and kind of mad). On Coast-to-Coast this evening George Noory had a guy named Mitch talking about Earth changes comment that 21 volcano's in the Indonesia area are expected to go off at any time! It was in the first 15 minutes of the program, it was a short update and I caught the end of the interview so I didn't catch the intro.

He was also talking about how scientists are quite worried about the changes taking place with the helioshpere and that they really don't understand what's going on.

Oz Locust Plague 'Of Biblical Proportions'

[In the past few days, aircraft have begun spraying farmland with insecticides to try to slow the march of billions of the insects before they mature and begin to fly.

Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia are all affected, with hundreds of farmers reporting that locust eggs have begun hatching on their land.

A record number were laid in autumn, and the conditions have been perfect for them to thrive, with the country enduring its wettest September on record after years of drought.

The weather is also helping the farmers but their hopes of a best-in-a-decade harvest are now threatened by the locust invasion.

21 Volcanoes Across Country Ready to Erupt

Bandung. Twenty-one volcanoes across Indonesia could erupt at any time, leading to natural disasters, officials have warned.

An official from the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Agency (PVMBG) told the Jakarta Globe on Friday that the alert for 18 volcanoes had been raised from Level 1, or “normal,” to Level 2, or “beware.”

Hendrasto, the head of the PVMBG’s Volcano Observation Unit, said that three other volcanoes were on Level 3, or “standby,” just one step below full alert, or Level 4.

One of those three is Mount Sinabung in Karo district, North Sumatra, which began erupting on Aug. 29 after lying dormant for 400 years. Its last major eruption, on Sept. 7, spewed volcanic ash more than 5,000 meters into the atmosphere.

“We downgraded Sinabung from Level 4 to Level 3 on September 23,” Hendrasto said. “However, we still urge the public to remain alert for any danger.”

Water map shows billions at risk of 'water insecurity'

About 80% of the world's population lives in areas where the fresh water supply is not secure, according to a new global analysis.
Researchers compiled a composite index of "water threats" that includes issues such as scarcity and pollution.
The most severe threat category encompasses 3.4 billion people.

Writing in the journal Nature, they say that in western countries, conserving water for people through reservoirs and dams works for people, but not nature.

They urge developing countries not to follow the same path.
Instead, they say governments should invest in water management strategies that combine infrastructure with "natural" options such as safeguarding watersheds, wetlands and flood plains.

"Some analysis was then done that showed the economic benefits of the irrigation scheme would have been less than the benefits currently delivered by the wetland in terms of fisheries, agriculture around the flood plain, water supply, water quality and so on.

"So it's not a question of saying 'No we don't need any concrete infrastructure' - what we need are portfolios of built infrastructure and natural environment that can address the needs of development, and the ecosystem needs of people and biodiversity."

Hungary declares emergency after red sludge spill

(Reuters) - Hungary declared a state of emergency in three counties on Tuesday, a day after a torrent of toxic red sludge from an alumina plant tore through nearby villages, killing four people and injuring 120.

The waste, produced during bauxite refining, poured through Kolontar and two other villages on Monday after bursting out of a containment reservoir at the Ajkai Timfoldgyar Zrt plant, owned by MAL Zrt.

On Tuesday, the Natural Disaster Unit (NDU) said four more villages were affected and the death toll had risen to four. Six people were missing.

Hungary denies report of second sludge dam break

BUDAPEST, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Hungary's National Disaster Unit (NDU) denied a report on Tuesday that an alumina sludge reservoir's dam had broken at a second point in western Hungary.

"We have just received the report from our units on the scene; there was no second dam break," NDU spokeswoman Gyorgyi Tottos said.

Earlier on Tuesday the government declared a state of emergency due to the spill which has killed at least three people.
