Jacques Brel: I don't know why the rain / Leaves up there its old clothes, / The heavy grey clouds, /
To go to sleep on our hillsides / … / I know nothing about all that, / But I know I love you still.

Here and now, I am sometimes surprised at my daughters' taste in music. Em and I just did a terribly bad and quite fun sing-along/dance-along to this. Which was much easier than the previous number she played for me, something like Don't Smoke in Bed, about a woman who left her wedding ring and a note on the side table as she was leaving her husband. And...how does she find this stuff? But, what fun she is sometimes.

Life is a road we don't travel alone. But everyone's on their own journey home.

M, on the other hand, gave me this gem.

I get so tired of hearing this kind of music, which seem to soothe M. So I hear quite a bit of it. Thing is, there is a part of this song, where the lady is singing and I end up singing right along with her.

Voices in the air, I hear them loud and clear, telling me to listen.
Whispers in my ear, nothing can compare, I just want to listen. Tellin me:
I am invincible. (which repeats a bunch haha)

Who knows why I wanted to share this. Badly enough to figure out how to do it on this teeny tiny tablet. I don't know. Maybe I need to sit here and listen to the voice. I'm trying, though. I really am. If I can break through the barrier, well...I would like to see what, I guess. Not giving up. Still sitting, every day.

    Much Love,

Here, listening to Edith Piaf. Had to turn the ac on. It's still hot. Villagers, please send some rain up and down Cali.

Still no rain in California? We know a little about the healing process involved in rainmaking. Here is an earlier post of mine:
    Quote Posted by araucaria (here)
The art historian Aby Warburg studied the Hopi Indians’ rainmaking ceremony, which involves large numbers of snakes.

Quote Here the dancers and the live animal form a magical unity, and the surprising thing is that the Indians have found in these dance ceremonies a way of handling the most dangerous of all animals, the rattlesnake, so that it can be tamed without violence, so that the creature will participate willingly—or at least without making use of its aggressive abilities, unless provoked—in ceremonies lasting for days. This would surely lead to catastrophe in the hands of Europeans

Commenting on a drawing made for him by one of the Hopi, he says:

Quote The 4 rings signify that whoever approaches the serpent and does not tell the truth, drops dead before one can count to 4

This would tend to confirm the common sense idea that a preacher who is killed by the snake that he claims is harmless was preaching BS, which is first and foremost fatal to that person. But why anyone would play around with poisonous snakes in the first place? Here is his [Warburg’s] explanation:

Quote For the snake is not only, as Cushing’s Indians would say, the fatal bite in readiness or fulfilment, destroying without mercy; the snake also reveals by its own ability to cast off its slough, slipping, as it were, out of its own mortal remains, how a body can leave its skin and yet continue to live. It can slither into the earth and re-emerge. The return from within the earth, from where the dead rest, along with the capacity for bodily renewal, makes the snake the most natural symbol of immortality and of rebirth from sickness and mortal anguish.
    Attachment 26911
    Attachment 26913 Attachment 26912

In order to make rain, in California or wherever, we need to learn to tame without violence as an alternative to the prevalent ‘kill-or-be-killed’ mentality. ‘The poisonous reptile’, wrote Aby Warburg, ‘symbolizes the inner and outer demoniac forces that humanity must overcome. […] The American of today is no longer afraid of the rattlesnake. He kills it; in any case, he does not worship it. It now faces extermination’. Warburg saw himself as a kind of lightning rod, not least within his own banker family, and would therefore naturally be drawn to the water-serpent symbolism.
This made me think of Charles Hatfield from San Diego, who was contracted and paid $10,000 to make rain for LA in the early 20th century. So much once that it flooded LA and deaths occurred.

Skyflower, about work ... I hope it's just a phase passing by and things will improve in your workplace. I feel quite differently about work now -- the stress is gone, I do what I can and so far it's working fine. Life is too short ... at any age. Sending you wishes of peace and strength.
Thanks Marianne, I can really use peace and strength right now. I know that all things here are a passing phase, but that doesn't make it easier. I know I need to snap out of it, so I can manifest a better option for myself, but wow....school is never out, and this time, the universe is telling me to up my game.

May the force be with me. :D

    Adding Parallel Realities

"Let us put our previous scheme in three-dimensional format, because, otherwise, in this diagram, they would accommodate the different versions and parallel lives in which we exist, and our "picture" of evolutionary matrix of our galaxy would be complete. The easiest way is through a Rubik's cube, where all the above diagram is only one face of the cube, parallel to indefinite repeated times, leading to realities that co-exist with our , at the same developmental level (third density), comprising the same number of planes frecuenciales (physical to mental), with the same number of received space-time dimensions (three spatial and one temporal) but in reality parallel existence of which we are not usually aware only in dreams or some other meditative experience."

I heard Nina Simone sing Brel's Ne me quitte pas yesterday. Gotta love the way that woman just didn't care how the French came out. It's one of the most beautiful Frenches I've heard so far.

Flash, my language teacher told me that the people who make the spelling rules and stubbornly try to fixate them in people's memory by means of rigid language teachers and conjugaisons don't respect the fact that language lives, grows and evolves. Language doesn't follow our grammar books, we have to follow language. That - if I understood it correctly - was his opinion.

I'd like to believe spirits were with me for company. I'm always replying to questions I never really hear.

Reading Paula's experiences, I'm rethinking things:

We're getting a cat. It will be the first time, but I'm hesitant, because...well, it's not a plant. I want a cat for company, to love and to teach the children what it means to love unconditionally (by the way if anybody wants to give me some good starter's advice, please pm me, and many thanks in advance).

When we got to the new house, the first night, we heard a cat cry all night long. The second night it was silent and after that too, so I thought that one of my new neighbor's cat was just meowing to get in, be it a bit sad.

Then one day, I went out to the garden to throw away some dishwater (another fun story for Paula coming up). There were some things I took to be gutters. I opened one and an army of mosquitos flew in my face. I thought that this might not be an ideal place to add dishwater, also because it appeared the previous people had been throwing trash in there so it might get clogged. I went to the other "gutter" (actually ventilation I found out later) but my husband had covered it with a heavy bucket of paint because of the mosquitos and it was the same: trash, mosquitos bombing me and then...I saw a black hairy tail. It moved! Something was alive in there. It was too hairy to be anything like a rat. I observed the creature for what it might appear to be. Then a sad cat's face peeped up from down that hole. It was a heart-breaking sight.

Oh my God, I thought, that was the cat that had been howling for days with no light, no food, no oxygen...Quick, quick, do something, I thought. He might die. I thought of ways to get him/her out, the entry was too small for help tools...I wanted to call the emergency number but then I ran to the kitchen to get some milk. When I came back to the hole and the cat saw the milk, he jumped out all by himself. He cried some more and cautiously looked at the milk. I poured it in a bowl and told my kids to move away from the cat a bit because he was scared. Very soon, the cat came to us by himself. He came to me first and rubbed his whole body against me and wanted to jump all over me. I felt terrible for the cat because I knew I could not bring him into the house. I gave him some chicken to eat and after that he started jumping the garden walls, presumably to go back home. In vain, because they're too high. My children did not want to let the cat go and neither did I, but we couldn't keep it hostaged like that either. It was obvious the cat wanted to go home though I secretly wonder if his owner has made enough effort to look for him. I didn't have a long enough ladder to help it back so I improvised with a smaller ladder and a railing to help the cat get back home. I haven't heard the cat cry since then. The bowl broke the same day.

Dish water story for Paula. When we came here, there was a water problem. The plumber said it was the boiler under the kitchen sink that kept the warm water running while already full. That water leaked from the pipe onto the floor. That explained for the water meter rolling incessantly. He closed down the warm water in the kitchen and said we're lucky the boiler didn't explode. The leakage has stopped. They're coming back next week for further reparation. Humidity does not go under 72%, I think it's been going on for a while. It's not an old house, not to say: fairly new.

Amazing pictures, Ulli, that looks like Dali but in photography format.

Well Violet, it’s a bit of both: “anything goes” is not a viable solution either. But he is right; modern linguists always say their task is descriptive rather than prescriptive. While a little rearguard action is not a bad thing when there are so many people who don’t care if they can’t "talk proper", with grammar, like everything else, the law can be made to look an ass. If I say "Il ne faudrait pas que nous assassinassions la langue de Racine", it may be grammatically correct, but probably a shade too… assonant for most people Correct grammar is just one parameter to be taken into consideration, and it can be a help or a hindrance; it depends. It is part of the “handshake protocol” needed for effective communication. But often it can be the “box” when one is trying to think “outside the box”.

Dan33, I find those movie posters exploitative, speaking as a woman. No matter what their real content of message, the posters are offensive.
    Just sayin'....
Just deleted. There were only comic posters. Exaggerations of "reality". Don't think so.

I have the utmost respect for our thread starter.

Personally I do not like exploitation of any kind. I would belabor, but it is circular in nature.
I view this thread as co-creating collectively a naturally positive higher consciousness here and now.

Some days I have to work on being conscious, conscientious, awake and aware my-self.

Today I'm trading with a friend of mine. I have an extra refrigerator and he needs one. He is going to cut some long pieces of red oak in my yard for me so I can split them for my wood stove before the winter. I'm not that handy with a chain saw and I'm partially blind. So I asked him to help me out. Haven't seen him in about five years. He's an old surfing buddy of mine from about twelve years ago. I'm going to the beach and paddle around. I can already feel the sand in my toes, the sunshine and water.

    Love

    Nora

I know you don't intend to hurt, Dan, but you are a man, and so I might not be able to make you understand
how women are fed up, fed up, fed up....
and so my aim here is to represent the collective of humanity, without any gender divisions.
Those posters are really beyond decadent.
A damaged maiden in a blood-coloured sheet with her legs wide open...there is nothing realistic there...it is a fantasy, designed to sell.
It's hard to escape in today's world from this barrage of endless subliminal messages.
