And It's one more thing i have added to my traveling list, of must see people and places.
That first documentary is going to be one i watch over a few times.

It is going to be overcast and rainy today...and for the next I don't know how many days in a row. Not inside, though. Inside, I'm carrying the Sun

At the meeting with Em's school, I learned that the new standardized testing in Texas, for all school children of all ages, is quite rigorous. I bet this makes someone, somewhere, very happy. It just irks me. I'm not a supporter of standardized testing to begin with, it is like "let's teach every single child the same thing, let's keep them so busy learning exactly this material and thinking exactly this way, let's not let anyone learn any more or less or in a different way..." I could go on and on about this one. Anyway, the standards and expectations are both higher. School officials and teachers are puckered pretty badly.

In my own little assessment of the educational system from a while back, I thought it would be a good idea to have the students at every single school plant a garden of food that grows in their area. That would be ideal on so many levels. That food would be served to the kids, for one thing. Secondly, the kids would be outside with their hands in the dirt, learning of cooperation with the earth... My mind wanders.

But no. We want kids to spend more time learning what some faceless, nameless nincompoops tell them they need to know, which is on paper, not in dirt. And the busier we make them, and the more we stress them out, and the more we clamp down...the better the future is?

Well, finally got my daughter moved and just finished washing all the dirty dishes she left me (a few unidentified fuzzy things were among them too). Having a moment here as I read these posts and realize what a different trajectory my daughter and I are both on at this time in our lives and even with all I know I still find myself struggling with myself. It is so hard to just let go sometimes. I remember watching something about the Kogi on TV back in the mid 80"s and being very intrigued with their message then. For some reason I have always stood out from every other member of my family. Not one of them spends time every single day thinking about their relationship with the earth, talking to basically everything in nature, from water, trees, plants and animals, to stones and ancestors and more. To me, it's always been obvious that everything is alive and can be communicated with. I can't wait to move back to the country where I can just walk right back out into the woods. Some people can do city living but it's just not where I want to be. Soon, very soon.

So five of us, all women, went deep into the Tapanti National Park yesterday...which is only a few miles from my home.
Americans, Dutch, Swiss and German.
I wish I could have taken more pictures, but the terrain was a bit slippery, we were carrying stuff, and the company was also distracting me...

Taken from the moving car...entrance to a coffee field...had no idea it was going to be in the shot...was hoping to get some Poro trees.




Here are the Poro Trees, packed with red blossoms and other goodies....the whole valley looks amazing at this time of year:

In my twenties I might have considered this five star...but not now...nowhere to sit, water was cold, and the walk back up to the car nearly killed me:
