Thanks for the link of which, we -- here, on this thread -- have long been aware of.

You see, if it weren't for Joke Volta's pictures, JDCV's videos and the occasional reader's breaking news; I would totally dismiss that site.

Why?

Although alledgedly following the El Hierro volcanic activity since the beginning, the guy, Armand, still hasn't learnt the difference between Harmonic Tremor and seismicity/microseismicity since, again, today we can read on said site:

Here is what an actual, strong Harmonic Tremor looks like:




See the red-colored horizontal strips starting around 04:15 at the bottom of the graph?

That's real Harmonic Tremor!

That's totally absent from current spectrogams, which is why I am saying that magma on the move is yet to be "seen." That is, the intensity of magmatic oscillation/resonance reaching into the red portion of the scale, not the current green to pale yellow.

In short, the guy, in my books, is fear mongering with lots of chatter and poor interpretation of data.

An imminent eruption is not expected but there is movement of magma.

As happened last year when the eruption began in the Sea of calms; it started, as now, with a succession of earthquakes in the municipality of La Frontera. Scientists are studying and analyzing the situation in El Hierro, an island recovering from being affected by a crisis that gave the impression that it was over but that seems to have revived.

However, in the press conference held by Pevolca yesterday in Tenerife, the scientific committee does not expect an imminent eruption, but notes that there is movement of magma, which has forced to increase the volcanic hazard semaphore to yellow (situation pre -emergency) in the area between the Sea of ​​Calm, the Meadow and the Verodal.

Furthermore, in the 2011 volcanic crisis, the deformation suffered by El Hierro was 5 cm in total. It has now been 3 centimeters in just two days, some data which suggest clearly the intense movement of magma that runs through the bowels of the island.

Involcan withdraws from El Hierro for lack of resources

Nemesio Perez, warned Wednesday that a "satisfactory response'' to the needs of society from the seismic reactivation of El Hierro can not be given by lack of economic resources.

EUROPA PRESS, S / C Tenerife (27.06.2012. 16:36 pm) The director of Involcan (Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias), Nemesio Perez, warned Wednesday that a "satisfactory response'' to the needs of society from the seismic reactivation of El Hierro can not be given by lack of economic resources.

Perez has confirmed to Europa Press that the Involcan team is not physically on the Meridian Island since last April 5 due to having "exhausted" all funds for the project extracted from the European Union (EU) European volcanic risk reduction in Macaronesia (Azores, Canaries and Cape Verde).

The three-year project was due to end in July 2013 but the money ran out because it was "impossible" to have permanent presence of staff and partners on the island in order to realize volcano activities monitoring that cannot be made through permanent instrumental network since July 2011.

In addition, working to enhance the GPS network and permanent instrumental geochemistry to strengthen volcanic surveillance.

Perez reminds that Involcan was originally an institution supported by the Canarian Parliament, the Senate and House of Representatives to help improve and optimize the management of volcanic risks in the islands, but only the "commitment" of the Tenerife Chapter has guaranteed its existence.

* There was an inflation process throughout the island whose center is located in the area in which the seismicity occurs.

The energy release and ground deformation show an acceleration of the active magmatic process on the island of El Hierro, according to information forwarded by the National Geographic Institute at the direction of the Civil Protection Plan for Volcanic risk (PEVOLCA).

The GPS network solution, measuring ground surface deformation on the island, shows there is a clear process of inflation, marking an apparent center of pressure in the area where the seismicity is located. The total cumulative displacement from 24 June to midnight yesterday, is about 3-4 cm in the horizontal components and [+] 4-5 centimeters in the vertical component. Also the energy released has reached a value of 4.2x10^11joules.

Since the initial phase of magmatic process, on June 24, there have been over 750 earthquakes. The earthquake with a magnitude greater than 4.0, occurred yesterday at 18:55 pm in the Sea of ​​Calm, 2 km from the coast and 20km deep.

Be reminded that the seismicity started in the El Golfo Sea and then moved to the center of the island, coinciding with the point of intersection of the ridges, and later migrated to the west. Since the mid-25th the seismicity is concentrated in an area that includes the west and the dorsal side of El Julan. From noon, on 27 June, seismicity began to migrate towards the Sea of ​​Calm.

The GPS network in the Canary Islands, Spain, is being operated under a collaboration of ITER, GrafCan, and Nagoya University.


Routine data analysis is automatically conducted in two ways.

1. Ultra-rapid solution (red circles)
