Re: ~The Bob Dean Thread~
Yeah, I've watched hours of Bob Dean interviews too, and I'd love to believe him. He talks about some incredible things, and his kindly grandfather schtick is excellent. But that's all it is. My area of expertise is human behaviour and psychology, and I wish to God I could get suckered into this nice old man's routine too. But he makes me feel lonelier in what I know, angrier in what I believe, and thoroughly unhappy at this world full of liars with an angle. MOST of the people we here spend valuable hours of our lives giving the benefit of the doubt are liars and con-men. MOST.
Lying and deception are, for reasons muddled and boring, something I know about. When I watch people like him waffling their line ... I want to laugh, and I want to yell, 'how can you not see he is lying?' It's that obvious. Oooh, there are some big names around these parts who are pure comedy to me. I know how to spot a liar.
You want to believe. If you want to believe, and you don't have the intelligence or guile to recognise the market position you place yourself in ... then you probably deserve to be suckered into next week every time you click play on one of these interviews.
But if you want to believe in something more than the mainstream world tells you is your lot, your existence, the length and breadth of you ... then surely you will recognise that discernment is the most important tool you have in a world of liars, fantasists and opportunists. In fact it can elevate you beyond the dross of the names in this game, and into the real stuff. Isn't that what you want?
