We are conscious though. We are not aware (awake).

People --whomever they are-- seem to focus more on consciousness than awareness. Clearing of consciousnes helps to open the door to awareness or awakening.

There's a marked difference between the two. Unlike just talking about consciouness expansion or becoming more conscious....awareness can be demonstrated and one can be SHOWN the contrast between the two. Instead of just told about consciousness, awareness can be shown and demonstrated.

A person who has had a near death experience is not conscious. But they are aware of what is going on during that time of Unconsciousness. That is their awareness, their expression of something that is not affected by consciouness at all.

Someone who is expressing intuition is expressing an awareness of something they are not conscious of.

A person who has experienced astral travel is very often not conscious. They may very well be asleep, but they are aware of their travels even after they re-gain consciouness. Even though they had the event while NOT conscious.

Until we learn the difference we are going to keep focusing on consciousness instead of awareness and we just pushing against that boulder. We are not able to see that difference inside of us yet. What we focus on, is what is built--consciousness expansion. What is really productive is to be getting back to awareness. Consciousness expansion creates more density for the awareness or higher expression to have to work through...to the point we barely notice it never mind noticing the difference between the two.

    Excellent post!

Care to elaborate on ideas in which we can "get back to awareness"?

I am sure many of us could learn a thing or two on your enunciated distinction between "consiousness" and "awareness".

I was struck by what David said at 6:18 in the video:

"There are a large number of conspiracy researchers who are not conscious...they are body conscious. And it's great what they are doing cause we need to know about the manipulation of banking systems, and political systems and all the rest of it...but if that's where it ends, all we're going to do is learn more and more about the prison cell. I want to know where the key is. Where's the key to open this door...to walk out of the cell, not to learn more about it.

And the only way to find that key is by becoming conscious...to start to access higher levels of consciousness so that we can see the world from a much higher perspective, knowledge, understanding and wisdom. And have the inspiration of how we react and respond...."

Looking forward to 9eagle9 speaking further on the differences between consciousness and awareness. It would shed a little more light and a lot more clarity to the above statement by Icke.

    Hi 9eagle9

I use the word consciousness myself. I make no distinction between awareness and consciousness. In fact I will also use other words - the Self, the Divine, the Absolute, Source.

When Icke is speaking of consciousness he is talking about the ultimate reality which we cannot speak about. It is prior to all things and can only be pointed to. At best all the words are just signposts, pointing to it.

I agree with what Icke is saying and Icke is not the only person saying it.

When people start waking up in the sense of peceiving reality from Consciousness, rather than the limited sense of self which is the body and mind, then the game is up for the PTB. That's why so much of the conditioning is desgined to keep us believing that we are this body and we are this mind.

When you perceive reality as Consciousness, the dualistic nature of life is irrelevant, because you go beyond it. This is where we step out of the pyramid. It will only take a number of people waking up like this to bring the whole pyramid tumbling down - in order words it will not have to be the full 99%.

Great message. Conscious awareness. To become aware that we are aware. To become consciously aware in the now moment accesses Infinite Reality. These moments of focussed awareness may be fleeting at first but with self correction they become our normal way of 'being'. To be consciously aware of what we are physically doing brings us peace and centeredness.

Making agreements is one way to get stuck at one level of progress. I happen to respect a lot Ickes work but ...just because everyone , or a lot or many, agrees with him doesn't mean that he is entirely correct or that is where the truth of the matter is. Nor is it a matter of semantics we are framing around two entirely different mechanisms.

If one chooses not to make a distinction that is their choice. Very advanced people who have done a lot of consciousness and ego work know what conscious awareness is. They know there is a difference.

For those who don't know....its not going to help by saying the two mechanisms are the same. They are not given an opportunity to be shown the contrasts in the two.

However it does not change that the two are decidedly different in expression. Consciousness gimbols around beliefs, aquired information, thoughts, ideas, thought attachment to feelings, and judgement.

Awareness is an expression, not of thinking, but knowing. If one knows something they don't need to think about it, and if they have the experience of it they don't need to believe it .

The difference between knowing and thinking, and experiencing and believing.

Awareness is based on accessment not judgement. One is not required to think, or require external input to arrive at knowing. More emotional qualities than 'feeling' qualities. People tend to think emotions and feelings are the same thing.

The difference between the two is easily demonstrated.

At this point in time awareness really has no choice but to express itself thorugh the consciousness. But it doesn't mean it is consciousness. It's obvious that animals do not have that same sort consciousness as humans but are very AWARE. Less about consciousnness and more about awareness in animals.

Awareness through consciousness risks consciousness interpretation--which means the ego may start pinging in it's input and translating things. In unconsiousness, consciousness doesn't express itself. You see that with people who are in a coma, but they report having awareness. Awarness in unconsciouness can express through dreams and things of that nature. Awareness can be known through consciouness. One can be conscious of their awareness but ...until one knows the contrast between the two, how can they determine which one is which? Espeically if we keep re-emphasizing they are the same thing?

There's really no avenue for awareness to express unless it is doing something that a person may not be relating back to themselves. Synchronicity seems to be events external of us but is a function of inner awareness. "If the tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it...."......is really a question about awareness and consiouscness.

But because awareness can be expressed through consciousness doesn't mean its sourced in consciousness. That it originates there. It doesn't.

Consciousness is just the avenue that it expresses through. But if the consciousness is that cluttered up with thoughts, ideas, beliefs, externally sourced material the awareness becomes harder to differentiate, it gets lost there. Or drowned out, or re-translated.

We could go through life unconscious and remain what we'd call a dream like state but rather defeats having the physical experience.

Default Re: David Icke: How Do We Become Free? We Become Conscious.

Q: You use the words 'aware' and 'conscious'. Are they not the same?

Nisargadatta Maharaj: Awareness is primordial; it is the original state, beginningless, endless, uncaused, unsupported, without parts, without change. Consciousness is on contact, a reflection against a surface, a state of duality. There can be no consciousness without awareness, but there can be awareness without consciousness, as in deep sleep. Awareness is absolute, consciousness is relative to its content; consciousness is always of something. Consciousness is partial and changeful, awareness is total, changeless, calm and silent. And it is the common matrix of every experience.

Q: How does one go beyond consciousness into awareness?

M: Since it is awareness that makes consciousness possible, there is awareness in every state of consciousness. Therefore the very consciousness of being conscious is already a movement in awareness. Interest in your stream of consciousness takes you to awareness. It is not a new state. It is at once recognised as the original, basic existence, which is life itself, and also love and joy.

Skinned down for skimmers, we can say that consciousness is mind with object, while awareness is mind without object. In any case, there is only mind. If we wanted to play name games, we could say this mind is God, and we are thoughtforms in this mind of God. Now there's a thought!

    Hi 9eagle9

Mechanisms are just concepts of the mind. Icke is using a word "Conscious" to describe something beyond all concepts and something which appears to be different to what you are describing as "conscious", in a more limited sense.

Once you are perceiving life as the Consciousness Icke is referring to, the words are no longer relevant.

Where I am from, some people call their evening meal "dinner" and what they drink "tea". But others call the meal they eat at midday "dinner" and the meal they eat in the evening "tea".

So what is dinner - a meal at midday or a meal in the evening?
So what is tea - a drink or an evening meal?

There is no right or wrong - it just depends on who is using the word and what they are using it to describe.

Icke is not the only one to use the word "Consciousness" like this. Many spiritual teachers do. Here's one @ 52.00 minute mark who is saying he is using Consciousness and Awareness as synonyms.

And for those who want some humour to see how the use of a word can be applied to two different things by two different people, then this is funny

    Hi Bob,
I agree with what Nisargatta is saying in putting the two words in different context. I think that in the video in the OP, Icke is referring to Consciousness as that which is present even when asleep.

This is where the words can be so difficult. Actually what we are talking about is God, like you said, but I was reluctant to use that word because it can get misinterpreted and people don't agree on what God is.

As using a word for what we are talking about is so difficult, I think it can be easier to say what it is not.

Yes Jenci, as Sherlock Holmes said to Watson, Once you remove the impossible, what you are left with however improbable must be the truth,
BTW Sherlock Holmes came from Edinburgh. He was related to my grandfather.

PS There is a huge statue of Sherlock in Edinburgh city centre outside the pub the Arthur Conan Doyle.

That's it Stan.....and actually that's a really good quote in this truth seeking business. I often say it to myself when I am disbelieving that "they" could have done such a thing. So you are keeping the detective work in the family then

It's all fine, it's all great -- call it whatever we want, God is all there is! Yay God!!
