I did as well. It's amazing how hard it is to find fluoride free toothpaste! I buy mine from Frontier CoOp as they have the best prices I've found.

Make your own! I use a simple mix of 3 parts baking soda, to 1 part table salt. You can also add glycerine and essential oils to make a nice tasting paste, but I find the powder effective enough.

It's simple, cheap, and highly effective, more so than any store bought product.

whats astounded me, in a "OMG this can't be right" way, is that ALL childrens toothpastes i have so far seen have fluoride in!

If you've looked into the research done on flouride (i have some sources on the group page), one tube of childs toothpaste can kill a child under nine years old. Imagine if you kid got a hold of one and tried eating it :-0 My god, its outright poison!

I have noticed that all the childrens toothpaste is fluoride. I see that they even have that "special baby water" in gallon jugs with fluoride added.

I have always used Toms tooth paste and could always buy it in the grocery store, but since Toms sold out, they turned it into fluoride. Some still is fluoride free though. I have been buying mine online for like 4.00 a tube. The cinnamint is the best one!

Flouride is toxic if a person ingests a particular amount, but I think, that among adults, this is already widely known - "you're not supposed to swallow toothpaste". Though I don't think anyone is trying to kill people with Flouride, I don't buy into the conspiracy. I use Flouride every day and never had a problem in my life, and I've tried the "alternatives" but to be honest nothing cuts it like the typical formula.

Yes, it's a conspiracy, no doubt. There is simply too much information against adding it for them to ignore.

My children's dentist always makes me sigh a release form, because I won't let them coat the kid's teeth with fluoride or take many xrays. I always sign it in giant letters, about the size of half the page. Think they get the point?

I use Tom's of Maine as well, but I have to order it too. The Tom's you find in the store has fluoride. My son pointed out to me the other day that even the dental floss he got from the dentist has fluoride in it...can you believe it??

I watched a video from Mercola.com the other day and a woman said that glycerin in toothpaste coats your teeth and prohibits saliva from re-mineralizing the teeth. Ever hear that?

Tom's of Maine makes a fluoride free toothpaste. Curiously, they make one with fluoride as well. I wrote them about that...
Toms is more expensive--about $5 a tube at Walmart; higher in health food stores.

FYI, baking soda can wear away tooth enamel, so should be used sparingly.

I actually started making my own toothpaste - it's great! Here's the toothpaste I make:

    1) 50% Raw Organic Coconut Oil (lubricant/buffer)
    2) 50% aluminum free baking soda (alkalizer)
    3) Himalayan Salt (the heavy mineral pink stuff). (re-mineralizer)

I based this on Edgar Cayce's recommendations - he stated that nothing was better than soda and salt. The coconut oil is to add additional mineral content and a lubricant to increase comfort.

I can attest to this working very well in my case. I no longer get occasional cavity pain and expect my teeth are beginning to remineralize.

Yeh, but won't too much salt scrape off the enamel on the teeth? I used to use salt and baking soda and was told that would happen if I used it on a daily basis. Just curious

    My understanding is that:
    1) The paste (speaking of the one I use) is used primarily for massaging into the gums - you don't want to brush the teeth quick and/or vigorously. Some people seem to 'sand' their teeth with the brush. A soft brush helps.
    2) The Himalayan salt is very fine and dissolves quickly, not leaving grains to mark the teeth or gums. If you use a larger grain salt, this would probably not be the case.
    3) The coconut oil acts as a buffer and lubricant for both the salt and soda, therefore should (I have no scientific evidence other than personal/subjective observation) eliminate/decrease any ill effects of either.

I brush with only baking soda and ordinary table salt; I have yet to have any issues with it.

If enamel erosion is a concern however, I have heard wonderful things about using white clay instead, maybe with just a small amount of soda added.

Are we talking about drinking water or toothpaste here?

I think you should stick to bottled water, if you are really that worried get Evian, although a hefty expense over time but you can't go wrong with that one, and stay away from tap water. As for toothpaste just don't swallow the stuff, I think everyone knows that already, it's common knowledge.
