"I happened to meet Michael Rennie while sitting next to him on a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago. I was in my uniform, and he was very friendly talking about his frequent work with the US Air Force and that he had made many movies and training films for the Air Force. He asked if I had seen his picture “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, because it was very important and contained an Earth saving message. He implied the US Air Force had helped in making the film with shots of UFOs. The interior of the disc in the film for 1951 had some surprising technology. It was a warning about nuclear weapons and a warning the Earth would be destroyed if we move off the planet with weapons. Michael Rennie played Klaatu an alien who comes to Earth and is helped by a huge robot and Patricia Neal who plays Helen Benson." George A. Filer III
