It may be that moving is more difficult than imagined. Most countries have very strict immigration rules, particularly with regard to age, education, professional qualifications and ability to support yourself financially until you get employment. Even if you are very wealthy some countries require you to have a business plan before you resettle. Qualifications can be difficult to transfer and good health is required, for the intending immigrant and also his/her family as well.

There is a difference in visa requirements for those people staying for a short time, eg. holidays,or staying for a short time and working or studying and those staying to re-settle. The qualifications for permanent residence can be very strict and deportation is the result of ignoring them.

Living in a different country from that of your birth is not to be taken lightly. I have spent a large part of my adult life in Australia, which is a country of immigrants. I would not live elsewhere. It is a country where difference is well tolerated and, usually, newcomers are made welcome. BUT it is extremely hard to get in as a permanent settler.

Personally I think the US seems large enough to find somewhere for its citizens to call home. In a post-'disaster' world fleeing for sactuary elsewhere would not seem to me to be a practical thing to do. When misfortune happens it is aour friends and neighbours who will help us. After all they will all be in it together. Hopefully they will be co-operaing and bravely helping each other to weather this possible latest storm, not not scampering off to a strange land. Home is where the support will be.

The responses really flowed in since I last checked here. I appreciate and agree with about all of them!

This article arrived in my awareness syncronistically for me after discovering a new 'prepper's store' had opened right across from my bank. I went in and looked around, just bought a replacement camper utensil set for one I had lost. Looked at the water filtration systems, which do interest me, and the solar oven. Wanted to get the coffee grinder because of spending a week without power after a blizzard and having no good way to grind my beans, but could not justify the cost for something I did not think I would need a couple of weeks into a collapse situation as I don't grow or store large amounts of coffee beans.

Then later the same day I read an article where that store was featured in a regional free paper, and the folks I met who owned it turned out to be a retired deputy sheriff with many years of service, and other contacts were giving lectures about all this in local communities and one small real estate developer was designing a set of homesites with a communal growing area and orchard and such, also tapping into this current area of interest.

    The question is:

Would you have left Germany during the Hitler cabal, knowing what you know now?

    History repeats itself.

Well my intuition (or internal guidance system), which I have trusted for my whole life, is still telling me I am where I should be. It also tells me that Hitler's history is not going to be successful at repeating itself here in the USA, perhaps because of the more aware reality creators/adjusters here now working the problem, though I can't prove that's not just 'hope'.

A group of friends of mine had a rock band with a song I invoke in these situations, though, "Only Time Will Tell' .

In meantime I at least have healthy gravity-fed, no electricity needed mountain spring water and plenty of wood for stove-fuel, while I intend and await disclosure of that zpe energy system TPTW keep suppressing.

I agree with the culture shock aspect of moving away from your country of origin. I moved to the UK from Ireland over a year ago, thinking it would be a similar-ish place, but it was the little things that really made a difference.

Also, me and a couple of friends are thinking about moving to Wales, as rural as possible (well, broadband availability depending of course!) and growing as much food as possible and raising some animals. Of course, legally you're technically not allowed to do that. Don't ask me why because I'll get angry. This:

That IMO is pure ****e, and just ridiculous how laws prevent people from living healthily and are not claiming benefits. Flagrant disregard for common sense!
