Talking What video camera should I buy ?

    Hi guys,
After experience a lot of strange phenomena in my life - mostly close encounters with UFOs, ships and orbs.

I've decided its about time I buy a good video camera so I can capture this.

Now it needs to be able to film well at night in low light conditions,
maybe have a night vision capability as well.

I think quality of video is important. I gather a fairly large lens is better for far away objects?

I really dunno where to start so hopefully a fellow enthusiast can point me in the right direction in what would be a good camera to get.

Battery life would also be important or ability to take extra backup batteries and high quality digital video.

Any help would be much appreciated! Kindest regards and Happy New year all!

I would recommend something compact and easy to use. Since your going to be using it to capture phenomenon that may only be around for a few seconds you want something that you can grab an be recording in only a few seconds. Something small and portable, that powers up quickly, and if you can find one that has night shot as well that would be even better!

The only downfall to a smaller camera is lack of high zoom for objects far away.

As far as a specific camera, something like the Flip HD would be good

I agree! The best camera for this type of thing is the one you have with you. You get a big professional camera and you won't carry it everywhere you go.

Gen 3 (or better) night vision is the only thing I'd buy; for what your wanting todo... then hook it up to what ever camera you can get.. the camera isn't the important part, the night vision is

Theres a few youtube videos I recall that go over differet equipment that might be worth a review. You haven't mentioned your price level that would help. Gen 3 or 4 is costly, but there are alternatives. The Yukon Night Ranger @~$400 has good reviews and a video output jack for recording to cam but no sound. It may be a good option for low cost...best wishes recording. Would you please share more of your encounter? I dont need to see your video to believe...

I too would love more suggestions.

I am in the process of fact gathering info here in the mountains I live in and need a video camera that’s reliable, easy to carry through dense rugged terrain and good zoom.

And oh . . . not too technical please . . . unless it comes with a human who can tell me how to use the thing

well a "video camera" isn't going to capture things that are out side the electromagnetic spectrum (TINY band of the spectrum) that we can see, if you just want something to capture secenery thats a different catigory IMO...

for UFOLOGY gen 3 night vision or better is the top choice but thats mostly for night activity.

I got my X a nice camera for her birthday, the Cannon Rebel T2i, it shoots 1080p video and has a 14mega pixel sensor, its an SLR so you can switch out lenses easily & its fairly compact & easy to operate ( you can point and shoot all day with no problem) while still having a feature set that allows for more advanced photography. I don't know if you can buy night vision lenses but I wouldn't be suprized if u could.

ANOTHER option (and this is quite cool IMO) is this: http://www.lytro.com/picture_gallery#
Lytro is a multi focus camera, you DO NOT have to worry about focusing ever again, the picture will have multiple focus points that you can later move through at your leasure (everything in the photo will be in focus)... this could be good for taking photo's where the intended subject of the photo isn't always hte most interesting thing....

Of course since you didn't mention a budget I've only shown more of the "top end" stuff...

but again, those are mostly "still" photo options.. a video camera with the Lytro lense/sensor set up would be pretty amazing

    Hi Nice1

You know perhaps the artwork of Jose Escamilla may give you good ideas, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQR-X-IliB8 Must admit that I was deeply shocked and amazed when I watched it for the first time. With today's technology we hope to know more about this fenomenom. Speaking of technology I required to check out, http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/binoculars Seems useful if you want to film far away sky objects..

    Kindly regards,

    Chrononaut.

Why waste such a good Camera on an 'X'..?

My recommendation would be the Latest Sony with HD & Night Vision for myself..!

I'm glad someone has asked this question, I was recently thinking of getting a telescope to do the same thing, but I think night scope would be way better for my needs. Does anyone have an opinion on the yukon pro? I want something with a video out so I can monitor with my laptop.

Those digital binoculars look awesome. Like others have stated I would get something compact, there are alot of cameras to choose from these days. It all depends on how much you're willing to invest I suppose.

Right, quick update. I have the yukon ranger, with a usb capture card on my mac, hooked up to some software for motion detection and recording. Looking forward to testing it when it gets dark!

the good night vision stuff is very expensive, and yes you can buy it. You can get it on ebay or from a dealer. I saw a video on youtube a long time ago about a video camera that had a special nighttime filming catagory that if used during the day revealed things in the sky that regular video does not capture. The two cameras were linked to the same area and one showed some sort of ship and the other showed nothing.

The last time I looked, the latest night vision you can buy is in the 6 to 8 thousand dollar range. Too pricey for me.
