Default Dancing for Health & Joy, banned all over the globe, who knew?

I have a friend who went to India last year and spent 9 days in an ashram with a guru, who's message was about moving to the beat. In her stay she was required to stand in the presence of dance music, with a rhythmic beat, and shake or move for 8 (!) hours daily. She said that her body released 'tons' of mucus, that she didn't even know was there, during her 9 day stay. She also lost 12.5 pounds. She is in her 70s, and losing weight, or moving for 8 hours straight, is usually not done by people in this age bracket.

I also have another wonderful friend who is 74 and dances every Friday night until after midnight. It is the highlight of her week. She just sent me a video and, frankly I was very surprised at the information it contains. Seems TPTB have been busy, banning dancing and drumming, in many countries around the globe. Could this repression of dance and drumming, which re-connects circuits all over the body, be one reason why people have trouble awakening? What better way to gum up the body than to ban natural movement.

Here's the video. The first half is a very interesting history lesson about this, the second half is music and dancing.

I used to love to use dancing as a tool to turn off the internal dialogue. I'm 39 now, a tad too old to be out clubbing anymore, but god,,,during the 90s I used to go to Rave parties 3-4 times a week. People have a negative association with those parties and assume everyone was on drugs all the time.
I wouldn't claim to be puritanical here. But I never ever needed to do drugs in order to dance into a trance and experience vehicler body awareness. And though I wasn't puritanical, I was pretty close.

I actually incorporated Chi Kung postueres with groundedness and energy passing through the palms. Dancing was really a chi kung exercise for me when you boiled it down to brass tacks. I had read the Mantuak Chia books as a teenager, and found the postures and breathing techniques amazing. Taoism being method based is a valid expresian of shamanism in my opinion.

People can express dislike of techno, but, when amplified through industrial strength speaker systems designed with space shuttle like technology, the experience induces a positive and easilly maintained trance state, unique and motivating.

When my trance was full on I would occasionally finger dance like the young lady in the first video.
While I was doing it, I would feel like I was finger plucking filiments in my aura.
My fingers could feel tactile sensations, like moving through a thick liquid.

Don Juan had methods he suggested to Castaneda that would cause the same sensation. This fingers moving through the aura feeling like they are moving through a thick liquid seems to be what you are going for when practice Tai-Chi as well.

DNA, That guy in the first video has his stage name as David Elsewhere, he calls himself that because when he dances, he is 'Elsewhere'.

    So cool.

In the Ramtha School we do a lot of dancing. The blue body dance is the dance of healing.

    Wonderful to hear this!

I used to listen to old skool hip hop with the real heavy beats, electro like in the clip of the young girl, soul and funk. The dance was an improvised mixture of all of these styles with a twitch of outgoing tai chi and at times some roughneck movements like in the movie 'Rize'.

People always gave me strange looks, but it was my way of dancing... It released anger, sadness, mental overdrives and brought joy and connection... so yes, dancing is the key!

In my opinion classical and meditative types music are a perfect way to balance out the body. The mix provides a ying yang experience :-))

Dancing is important. Osho held dance meditations. Oliver Cromwell banned dancing.

Default Re: Dancing for Health & Joy, banned all over the globe, who knew?

I have here a little experience about dancing to tell:

About 17 years ago, I went to Crimea (northern part of Black sea, now in Southern Ukraine, but used to be in Southern Russia. This is the place where Russian elites had their dacha (camp) for vacation). Crimea, 100 years ago, was the home of Crimean Tatars (yes, the tartar steaks).

The Tatars are from Central Asia originally and from Turkick language origins. The Crimean Tatars were on average rich farmers when Lenine took power and installed communism and because they were farmers owning their land and did combat Lenine, they were massively deported in Gulags and concentration camps in Siberia and died in mass (one of Lenine's genocide).

The Tatars remaining in Crimea were finally completely cleansed by Staline and its many purges. Staline would kill off any group of people that could pose a threat to its power. He deported the rest of Crimean Tatars to Siberia while some escaped in other communities. They litterally stole the houses they would have near the sea and the Russian just started living there.

Here is the story: I went to Crimea in 1995 and I was travelling around with descendants of Crimean Tatars who had kept their language and were coming back trying to take the lands back and their right of being there by building houses on public lands. We were travelling around with some of them. As we were there, there was a Crimean Tatars festivity party organised in one of the villages where the head of the Tatar resistance was invited (this guy had had most of his life in concentrations camps in Siberia).

Some folks dance groups were invited, people were coming from all over to dance and rejoice. Everything was open music and dancing, and this was after the fall of communism, so they were free to do organise their party.

I was amazed at the shows provided by folks groups dancing, absolutely beautiful delicate while energetic dancing.

Then came the general dance for everyone, with local and western music. I was astonished at seeing how little their body would move. They were all stiff, would not dare moving or just could not anylonger, young as well as old. I realised then that this was the inheritance of 2 generations of being genocidely cleansed and in constant fright, with no rights to speak, move, be.

I told the young Tartar interpreter who was with us: "I could easily pass for a Russian, my stature, eye and hair color, etc." His answer: "never", my question: "Why not?" His answer: "your eyes are much too bright, this is not usual here". I was stunned. Repression results.

So yes dancing is for the human soul to freely express itself.

This has the same effect for me when my band performs live. This sensation takes me off planet, sometimes into different dimensions.

How intoxicating dancing can be... One guy gets a whole crowd dancing !

And this explanation of the former sheds more light on 'leadership dynamics' and how movements start off.

Hope we'll once get a world wide dancing plague like the one from 1518 in Strassbourg, France... Let's dance away our karma... no deaths this time though !

Hi DNA 39 is not too old to go clubbing. When I used to go to dance parties there were people of all ages there. A couple of years ago I was at a Chemical Brothers concert (like u, I dont need drugs, trance music launches you out there, and you tend to get a contact high from all the other people). There were 3 guys in front of us - obviously 2 sons had taken Dad who was in his 70s out for the night. Dad was up on his seat going for it. You're never too old to dance!

That's quite interesting. I had never thought of it, certainly, but in the south, in some more fundamentalist Christian churches, dancing and singing were forbidden -- along with playing cards and just about anything that was fun!
