    Carmen,
I totally agree with the idea of having to use force for defense. Not sure I could pull a trigger.

I do know that many many years ago, I thought my children were in danger and I did step up to protect, which surprised me.

Its my opinion that if people will come to your place and steal and murder for what you have they are exacly the type of people that we dont want repopulating the world. I would have no problem in taking them out.

When I was a kid my dad built a fallout shelter. One day I asked him what would happen if the neighbors came and wanted in. His response to me was, see that gun in the cabinet? He went on to say that if he allowed them in that none would survive for the resources were too limited. Really, if people dont perceive up and coming situations and prepare you are not responsible for their lack of attention. You cannot provide for all. You survival should not hinge on their lack of attention to reality. You should only consider helping those who you can fully support with the intent of boosting all overall survival of all.

If people come along who are seeking shelter you need to determine if you can afford to share what you have as well as determine if those people will be energy suckers or energy contributors.

I suggest that one might read stories from the American Revolution and Civil War era to see exactly how people can be and how things were negotiated in times of crisis. Its really hard to imagine just how people can be and what they will be willing to do to survive and it can get really ugly. You have to be prepared to deal with some very ugly people who will do whatever it takes to survive at no concern to what it will cost you.

Its like this.... if all the righteous are killed by murderers and theives then that is the kind of society that will prevail. I would not want to leave that for my children. I would stand with a gun to protect them and an ethical society as well as for their immediate survival.

Going for lots of lentils, beans and dry rice. Dehydrated veggies and herbs for taste. Portable grill that can easily be packed for quick escape of people that become desperate in the hood. Also have inflatable raft in the even, the land masses change and have to escape over water. Still working on the water supply however. Seems that I haven't been able to afford a filter for massive bottling in discarded 2 liter or larger ginger ail bottles, because of the floride. I guess I'll just have to deal with a little floridation in my water, if its all I can manage. Besides the people that are thirsty in desperation won't mind a little floride. If you store jerky, you can season beans. Store up on sea salt and if you can a pepper/salt grinder. Iron pills to make sure if you don't have veggies, your blood is strong and healthy. If you run out of fruit or citrus dehydrated slices, bring vitamin C, stock up on anti biotics for scrapes, cuts and abrasions. Dollar store has it cheap. Any old sheets, need to be stripped for bandages and packed in double zip lock thick bag for wound care. Concrete hurts, even if it's just a scrape, and there is a lot of concrete that can be thrown from a big wave, in the even of tsunami from undersea earthquake. I'm working on souping up my van to be able to get out fast, even if it's at night. Neighbors look to get away with stuff when the community is sleep. i don't want to fall prey. When the spare stores of food are gone, so will I be. I'll leave them some bandages and dry goods, 6 three liter bottles of water and tell them to pray for clean rain. I hope that will be enough, but I'm afraid, I don't want to risk desperation in such times in Hillside Court/Killside Courtdate projects. They'll kill you for a dollar, with no food in site they'll eat you first, and save the dry good to stretch it. The dog thingy is wise. Some nationalities think of them as a meal large enough for a family.

Just kicking a few thoughts around, hope some of it is of help.
Don't forget to get bleach to disenfect any area, you may lay down on, as skin and dirt hurt also, and odors bring animals who also may be hungry.

Great post, I have thought these scenarios through also and to me that is the scariest part is What to do when all those who are not prepared go crazy because they are hungry and their families are too and are willing to do anything to save their own lives. I have been saving water, food, and Have some weapons. I Have a garden, have saved seeds and have a couple of rain barrels, I am reinforcing my back yard with a stronger fence, all these ideas,,, but I am not sure How I will react, I just hope I can stand my ground as I live in the city, We have a back up plan to leave on our bicycles if need be and Head to the mountains as my partners Mother has a house in a secluded area. I have informed all my family if times get rough where to look for me and they have directions to get there, if they need to get somewhere safe, a back pack packed is a great idea too in case you need to leave on foot. So I guess when the time comes we will do what is needed having more than one plan is a good Idea because you really don't know how all this will play out. I hope I will be able to Help others learn, what to do and to come together with my neighbors utilizing community to help each other, This is what I have pictured in my head but just in case that plan goes sour then I plan to leave dodge!

Thank you for your post. Good usefull information of the reality. I do believe that people should not only stock up on garden seeds, and food bought from stores. But,some thing mother nature has put on this earth thats here for a reason. PLANTS, that are pure to eat in your own back yards. Everything we were taught was weeds, are good for you. I am not a expert, but I have gardens and I do plant edible flowers and I keep the dandilions around.......Just wanted to share that. I havent seen a thread yet of alternative foods, besides whats at the grocery store.
I just hope it dont come down to the uglyness. ~christina~

Frankly, I don't understand those who are unprepared.
    Panopticon
As much as I would like to say I am of the mindset of being prepared, there are those who dont have the means to get prepared financially.
I continually am saying "I need this to be prepared" but when you dont have the money to buy them, there is not much you can do about it.
I know many people who want to be better prepared but dont have the means. Its a scarey situation for many people and their families.
