Default What is Your Favourite Word?

Words with a positive, uplifting vibration, please. And an explanation of what the word means to you. Love, of course, is a biggie.
Here's one. Miracle. For me, miracle is a special word because it evokes something out of the ordinary, out of the blue, and very, very special.

In English? Any word that starts with TH, or has TH in the middle of it.
Or at the end of it.
    I just love the sound.

BTW, you may or may not know this, but a few years ago a British newspaper published a list of most beloved words (in English, obviously), and I believe the winner was marigold.

I like it very much myself.

The term "word" not as a noun but rather in its slang form. It is the terminology of "I resonate with that" or "I see a lot of truth in that statement".

So innate is resonant energy in the hip hop community that it actually birthed a new usage off the noun "word" just to acknowledge it.

    The original conversational thanks button.

Marigold! The flowers are beautiful, too. Over here in Australia it might be more like Banksia or Orchid... Marigold certainly rolls off the tongue in a delightful way! How about rhythm, for the TH sound?

    Oh, rhythm is nice!
(Plus it always reminds me of Gershwin, so it's doubly nice. )

Thaw, thunder, mirth... I like them all.

But I have to tell you - and I don't think I've told this to anyone, ever - every time I see something really beautiful, includings words that I like, I feel an irresistible urge to touch them with my fingers (on the screen, in a book).
Miracle is one of those words that I touch very often. : )

Is that thaw or could it just as easily be Thor!? There is a power and a resonance in Thor that, for me, is inescapable. For a long time I've thought that if I were to have a son, I would name him Thor! Masculine, powerful....

When I was a teen, it would have been the word 'papers?', spoken as a question.

This was because the person approaching me had the 'materiel' to fill said rolling papers.

However, so as not to mess with the thread's intent, I'll say I don't have any given favorite word.

I don't have a word so here is a phrase I find very compelling:

'curvaceous synergistic syzygies' because it sounds like an integration of opposites yielding balanced resonance.
Apathetic governments allow chemtrails because chemtrails create an apathetic humanity that is more easily manged when they are breathing in chemtrails.

I am fond of the words "resilient", "sensuous" and "snuggle" because they sound just like their meanings when they roll off your tongue . . . What a "delicious" question - oops, there goes another one . . . .

tinntinnabulation--- just for the way it sounds as you say it!
It means the sound of ringing bells- which is nice too!

And for a lovely word that is meaningful for me-' hiraeth".
It is a Welsh word (Pronounced hee-ryth) with no comparative meaning in English. it means longing for the past, homesickness perhaps, grief at the loss of a place or a past--- you see i can't describe it-- but any ex-pats among you, no matter where you are from, will know what that welsh word expresses in just one word.

It's a sad word, but sad in a sort of acknowledging way!

My, my, you're a greedy one!
You would have Thor AND thunder neck to neck?
Isn't that one thunder thoo much? :-)
(I would say redundant, but that's a word I do NOT like.)

Thor is a very beautiful word, of course (and a beautiful name, too, although I wonder if it wouldn't be too much thunderous pressure on a tiny tot... :-))

It really is lovely - both the word and the notion. : )
From your description I would say its German equivalent would be Sehnsucht - which, funnily enough, is my favourite German word.

And I believe the Portuguese saudade probably is very close to its meaning, although not quite the same.
(I hope someone corrects me if I am wrong.)
