Default China publishes high-resolution full moon map

BEIJING - China on Monday published a set of full coverage of moon map and moon images with a resolution of seven meters captured by the country's second moon orbiter, the Chang'e-2.

That´s great! I hope now some kind of software like google moon to use this map. It should be much less distorted and airbrushed than the current ones.

I will certainly download the full map, which should be around 800Mb, if/when available.

The house is on fire, the fire alarm is ringing, you can smell the smoke, you can feel the heat, but somehow, refuse to get out of the bed and do anything about it; Maybe you´re just scared, maybe you believe the fire is an illusion, or maybe you´re just waiting for a miracle to save you...Eventually, you die. So, what is it worth to be "awake" if you don´t get out of the bed and do something?

Yes, why are they in black and white? The chinese, like NASA, are telling us what they want us to see. How important are these new photographs, what is their point of difference?

The original images stitched together are 800Mb. I´m not sure when/if they will be available. Anyway, a regular PC wouldn´t be able to read such heavy image without the help of a specific software to compress and read it by small sections, on demand.

Well, I´d rather trust the Chinese space agency than NASA, that´s for sure!

I hope they have less things to hide up there than the USA.

I feel the same, but am not in high hopes. I found this when Googling "Chang e 2 images" -

I do hope that this gets put in the Google Earth program. Please keep us posted on the release of the map!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but stereo images can't be in full color, I believe.

When someone gets the full Map, please PM me, I have Coordinences (sp?) for some things that I know are there, I want to see if they show up.

But that's just the same with a different name. Same headline, same lack of image (until they become available), same tow the party line mantra by the Chinese Space (really?) Agency?

    I'm fed up.

PUT UP or don't - but don't say you have a fantastic image - then don't release it - I mean WTF?!

Sooooooo over ANY SPACE claims these days - they are either fabrications or truths not told. China seems to be NO EXCUSE.

    *rant over*

I am going to get some of my Mandarin speaking friends to translate that caption - I dont think that image is Chinese, I think they are using it to demonstrate NASA censorship.

    Confirmed.

The caption says something like, "This American photo of the moon has been altered with a mosaic on top"

I can't find the full images either. I did find this image of the whole moon (much smaller than 800Mb):

While we wait, at the link there's a large. reasonably high resolution composite photo of the Moon, taken by a private person with a good backyard telescope. No editing of details in the photos.

A viewer will load first. Then the low-res moon map. As you zoom in the image will load at higher resolution.
You won't need to download the whole 800mb map first, only the section you want
to see. So it shouldn't take long.
