Default Measles patient at Super Bowl venue

    Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS — A person diagnosed with measles may have exposed others at Indianapolis' Super Bowl Village to the disease, according to Indiana health officials, who say they're not yet concerned about a widespread outbreak.

Two cases of measles have been confirmed in Hamilton County, with another two suspected in Boone County. One of the confirmed patients visited the outdoor Super Bowl Village on Friday afternoon. More than 200,000 people visited the Super Bowl Village that day, two days before the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

The Indiana State Department of Health said it notified the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and health departments in New York and Massachusetts, but it could be a week before new cases of measles pop up from that exposure.

Health officials noted the person did not go into the NFL Experience interactive fan exhibit at the Indiana Convention Center.

The person was infected by an undiagnosed sibling, according to the agency, which declined to provide additional information about the person.

Measles symptoms start with a progressively worsening cold and fever and end with a blotchy full-body rash. Serious complications can include meningitis and pneumonia.

Larkin said anyone who notices symptoms should contact a doctor.

"Even if you don't have symptoms, it's a reminder to make sure all your immunizations are up to date," he said. "And, it's a reminder to wash your hands and stay home from work if you're feeling sick."

Had the measles and all other childhood diseases when I was prepubescent. All of my friends did too.

This is all about vaccine marketing, brought to you with a favored marketing tool............fear.

I didn't realise that chicken pox was life threatening. Children have it all the time here, we just had a epidemic of it but my youngest 2 still didn't get it :S. I want them to get it whilst they are young and it's less dangerous. My Mum nursed all 8 of her children through chicken pox but she herself has never had it. She never got any of the childhood illnesses, she must be lucky. I have never met anyone who has had Measles, most children here have the MMR injection and don't get it. I remember the chicken pox was everywhere though, my children had spots head to toe but I just used Calomine lotion and made them wear oven gloves so they wouldn't scratch them. Chicken pox can leave scars if they are scratched.

that's the point it's not but now that they have a vacine they need to create a market to sell it to and so bring on the fear mongering!

My daughter wanted her kids to catch measles, mumps etc. They were not vaccinated, caught these diseases. They were mild because of the lack of vaccination and now they are immune. This is just fear mongering designed to insure vaccination!
