Default Building a Low Impact Roundhouse

    G'day All,

Here is an excellent example of how people with lots of imagination and a bit of ingenuity can create a low-cost environmentally friendly dwelling:

Built from mostly local resources and using volunteer labour they really have created a beautiful and functional home for themselves.

There is a pictorial section on building strawbale roundhouses for between £80 and £700.

I own the book by Tony Wrench, 'Building a Low Impact Roundhouse', detailing the design and construction techniques used (which are simple and easy to understand). The only problem someone with limited building experience may have is during the construction phase if they don't plan and experiment with a smaller project or two first.
Truly a simple alternative to modern lifestyles and building techniques.

'Welcome to The Roundhouse, it is an ecohome of wood frame, cobwood and recycled window walls, with a straw-insulated turf roof':

'That Roundhouse is an ecohome of wood frame, cobwood and recycled window walls, straw-insulated turf roof; with solar power and wind turbine for electricity, compost toilet and reed beds for grey water. It finally won planning permission in 2008':

'A group build a cobwood, turf-covered roundhouse at Plan-It Earth Centre, Sancreed, Penzance, Cornwall, England. Led by Tony Wrench over a three week course Sept-Oct 2011. Slide show of the main stages of construction':

    Kind Regards,
