Ditching US dollar: China, Russia launch financial tools in local currencies

China and Russia have effectively switched to domestic currencies in trading using financial tools as swaps and forwards, as they seek to reduce the influence of the US dollar and foreign exchange risks.

The agreement signed in the end of October comes into force Monday, December 29, and provides a currency swap of CNY150 billion (up to US$25 billion).

The country’s Foreign Exchange Trade System will carry out similar transactions with the Malaysian ringgit and the New Zealand dollar.

From now on yuan swaps are available for 11 currencies on the foreign exchange market.

“China won’t stop yuan globalization or capital account opening because of the volatility in emerging market currencies,” Ju Wang, a senior currency strategist at HSBC Holdings Plc in Hong Kong told Bloomberg.

China has set up bilateral currency swap lines with more than 20 countries and regions since 2009, including Switzerland, Brazil, Hong Kong, Indonesia and South Korea, Xinhua News reported in July.

A swap is a financial tool to ease transactions by exchanging certain elements of a loan in one currency, like the principal or interest payments into an equivalent loan in another currency.

Currency forward is an obligation of two parties to convert an agreed amount of one currency into another by a certain date at an exchange rate specified at the moment of signing the deal.

Russia and China have long been looking for ways to cut the dollar’s role in international trade. The question is significant for China as 32 percent, or $4 trillion of its foreign exchange reserves are in US bonds, which means there is a vulnerability to fluctuations in the exchange rate.

Russia’s foreign exchange reserves are worth $398 billion, and the US dollar accounts for about $162.45 billion.

The country’s economic growth has slowed amid a standoff with Western countries over the Ukrainian conflict. After the country’s financial sector faced EU and US sanctions it became hard for Russian businesses to raise finance in the West.

Chinese authorities are particularly interested in currency swap lines with developing countries, mainly from the Asia-Pacific region. Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Singapore, Hong Kong, Argentina, and Malaysia are actively involved in transactions with China.

In the video I saw yesterday of Annett defending himself, he offered not one shred of evidence that ITCCS and the tribunal that he claims found the QUeen and the Pope guilty, is anything but himself. He did not offer any names of persons who are on the tribunal or in his office that he claims to have in Brussels. Could he not present at least one supporter, one person to back up his claims???? Webre, on the other hand offers the names of several persons, he is presenting evidence to back up his claims. Also troubling, is that there do not appear any First Nations people willing to stand up and support him, even as a character reference. WHere are his supporters - if he is the hero he claims to be????

Oliver Stone: Ukrainians are suffering from US 'ideological crusade' against Russia

In response to those who took exception with his claims that the Ukrainian crisis involved “outside agitators,” Oliver Stone took to social media to advance his argument, saying that Ukrainians are the victims of a US strategy akin to Cold War 2.0.

This week, Stone stirred a political firestorm with his views on what he believed sparked the Ukrainian crisis, following a private interview with Viktor Yanukovich, the former Ukrainian president who was ousted in the February 2014 coup.

"It seems clear that the so-called ‘shooters’ who killed 14 policemen, wounded some 85 and killed 45 protesting civilians, were outside, third-party agitators,” Stone said, following his four-hour conversation with Yanukovich in Moscow. “Many witnesses, including Yanukovich and police officials, believe these foreign elements were introduced by pro-Western factions – with CIA fingerprints on it.”

According to the American-born filmmaker and writer, Ukraine is just the latest country in a long list to fall prey to “America’s soft power technique called ‘Regime Change 101.’”

Stone’s comments reverberated like an earthquake on both sides of the Ukrainian divide, prompting him to elaborate on his original statement. Stone’s follow-up post began with him explaining that he has no particular sympathy for Yanukovich.

“For those of you angry with my analysis of Ukraine yesterday, please try to understand the bigger picture I’m offering,” he wrote on his Facebook page. “I have no brief for Viktor Yanukovich, he may well be the most corrupt president Ukraine’s ever had. Ukraine has a dramatic history of corruption. That is not my point.”


However, he went on to argue that there is “ample evidence of pro-Western, third-party interference” in Ukraine, specifically mentioning Victoria Nuland and John McCain, two high-ranking American officials who appeared on the streets of central Kiev at the height of the Maidan showdown between police and protesters.

He also mentioned specific US government organizations, such as USAID, which has been operating in Ukraine since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the National Endowment for Democracy, which he remarked “apparently organize very well on Facebook and Twitter,” suggesting a possible method of organizing the protesters for an anti-government rally.

Stone asked the question why so many Ukrainian policemen were killed and wounded during the occasionally violent rallies, “Yet no one has investigated this in the new government?”

Indeed, there has been much speculation that the so-called Maidan snipers were working in the pay of those who were trying to orchestrate the protests, and it was their aim to shoot members from both sides to trigger deeper social unrest.

To emphasize his point that the US has been playing games in Ukraine for a long time, Stone made a historical reference to 1949, when Defense Secretary James Forrestal, together with the cooperation of the CIA, created a guerrilla force codenamed ‘Nightingale’ that was comprised of ultra-nationalist Ukrainians.


For five years, according to Stone, the CIA was parachuting Ukrainian infiltrators into the country.

Stone implored his audience to see the “big picture,” which is that the United States “has never given up on using Ukraine as a launching pad to the underbelly of the Soviet Union, now a reduced Russia.”

“This Cold War 2.0 policy continues in a most deadly fashion, and whether they know it or not, the Ukrainian civilian population in the middle has suffered greatly from this ideological crusade,” Stone said.

Israel freezes Palestinian tax revenues in response to ICC membership



Israel on Saturday night froze the transfer of some NIS 500 million in tax collections to the Palestinian Authority and may sue its officials abroad for war crimes.

The move came as a protest of the formal application for membership of the International Criminal Court that was filed on Friday on behalf of the “State of Palestine.”

This is “robbery and an act more appropriate to pirates and not governments,” chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat said of Israel’s move. The tax money is used to pay public sector salaries and is critical to running the Palestinian Authority.

“A few hours ago, we have been unofficially informed that the government of Israel has decided not to transfer our revenues, which, according to signed agreements, are the revenues they collect on our behalf and are obliged to transfer to us,” Erekat said.

The Prime Minister’s Office had no response and did not make a formal announcement regarding the decision, but Israeli officials confirmed that the funds had been frozen.

Meretz leader Zehava Gal- On said “the Bibi-Bennett government continues to prefer headlines over Israeli interests. Half a billion shekels is exactly the amount that will topple the Palestinian Authority, stop the security cooperation and endanger every citizen of Israel,” she added. “The good news is that in two months this pair will be shouting from the opposition benches.”

In addition to the revenue freeze, an Israeli official said Jerusalem is “weighing the possibilities for large-scale prosecution in the United States and elsewhere” of PA President Mahmoud Abbas and other senior Palestinians.

Israel would probably press these cases via non-governmental groups and pro-Israel legal organizations capable of filing lawsuits abroad, a second Israeli official said, explaining how the mechanism might work.

Israel views the heads of the Palestinian Authority as collaborators with the terrorist organization Hamas, because of a unity deal they forged in April, the officials said.

Netanyahu has previously warned that unilateral moves by the Palestinian Authority at the UN would expose its leaders to prosecution over support for Hamas, which Israel and other governments have named a terrorist group.

Hamas “commits war crimes, shooting at civilians from civilian-populated areas,” one official said, referring to the war in Gaza last summer in which more than 2,100 Palestinians and more than 70 Israelis died.

On Friday, the Palestinian envoy to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, submitted the Palestinian application to the ICC to the UN’s top legal affairs official, Stephan Mathias, at the UN headquarters in New York.

“This is a very important step,” Mansour told reporters.

“We are seeking justice for all the victims that have been killed by Israel, the occupying power.”

He pointed out that the Palestinians are the 123rd state-party to join the ICC.

Mansour said that a request has been filed with the ICC in The Hague to grant retroactive jurisdiction to the court to cover “war crimes” allegedly committed by the IDF during Operation Protective Edge.

The envoy said the Palestinians will also seek to take legal action over settlements, which he said are a “war crime” under the Rome Statute.

“This is a peaceful option, a civilized option, and an option that anyone who upholds the law should not be afraid of,” Mansour added.

He added that the Palestinians are not afraid of the possibility that Israel would also file war crime charges against Palestinians.

“The Palestinian leadership is not afraid of these allegations,” he said. “We honor laws and are not afraid of facing any charges with responsibility.”

A senior State Department official on Friday warned that the Palestinians’ formal application to the ICC would have repercussions for US aid. !!!!!

“It should come as no surprise that there will be implications for this step, but we continue to review,” the official told Reuters. “US assistance to the Palestinian Authority has played a valuable role in promoting stability and prosperity, not just for the Palestinians, but also for Israel as well,” the official added.

Erekat told the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen TV network over the weekend that “Palestine” would become an official member of the ICC and other international conventions and treaties by the beginning of March.

No one would be able to prevent Palestine from joining the international conventions and treaties, Erekat said. “We chose to join international bodies that don’t require a vote. That’s why Israel was unable to hinder our move.”

Erekat said that settlements and the recent war in the Gaza Strip would be the first two cases the Palestinians would submit to the ICC. A Palestinian team of experts is currently working on these two files, he added. “If needed, we will also consult with international experts,” he said.

Labor Party leader Isaac Herzog and Hatnua leader Tzipi Livni’s camp attacked Netanyahu for his decision to freeze the tax funds. In a joint statement they charged that “Netanyahu does not have any solutions for Israel’s deteriorating situation internationally.”

According to the two, who are running on a joint list, Netanyahu “is weak facing Abbas in the international arena and takes steps that cannot help IDF soldiers at [the International Criminal Court in] The Hague and will not stop the international wave.”

Should they lead the next government, they said, they would ”make diplomatic decisions that will enlist the world to Israel’s side and give IDF soldiers and officers a legal and diplomatic flak jacket to protect them and stop the Palestinians’ steps.

“We all remember how Netanyahu missed an international chance to demilitarize the Gaza Strip, choosing to speak to Hamas instead of enlisting the world to Israel’s side and promote long-term solutions,” Herzog and Livni added.

MK Nachman Shai (Labor) said the decision to suspend transferring funds is meaningless.

“Within a few days, Israel will give in and have to transfer the money to where it belongs.

The magician doesn’t have any more rabbits in his hat.

Netanyahu is once again sacrificing Israel’s international standing for narrow internal interests,” he said.

Nimer Hammad, political adviser to Abbas, said the Palestinians were not surprised by the decision, which was not the first of its kind that the Netanyahu government had taken. He said that the government was mistaken to believe that the move would benefit Israel or serve Netanyahu’s election campaign.

The PA leadership, he added, won’t backtrack on its decision to join the International Criminal Court in spite of the freezing of the funds.

CIA Torture Report Incriminates Dick Cheney

Information received this week from the highest levels of US counter-terrorism sources have confirmed that the reputed “Queen of Al Qaeda,” Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a CIA torture victim now serving 87 years in an American “super-max” prison, was a CIA agent when captured and was imprisoned to prevent releasing information that could eventually lead to the arrest and conviction of then Vice President Dick Cheney.

Siddiqui worked directly for Valerie Plame, a CIA agent purposefully “outed” when her husband, Ambassador Joseph Wilson, disproved White House claims of “yellowcake uranium” smuggling by Iraq.

White House Security Chief, Scooter “Libby” Leibowitz was convicted of the Plame leak, although sources now confirm that the “outing” of Plame was done at the orders of Cheney and was passed on to the media by retired General Paul Vallely, a Fox News employee who has recently been filmed meeting with leaders of the ISIS/Al Qaeda terror group in Turkey and reputedly Syria as well.

When Plame was “burned,” her assistant, Dr. Aafia, was then listed as part of the now debunked yellowcake “network” and fled to Pakistan, where she was kidnapped and taken to Bagram Air Force Base, as outlined in CIA torture records.

UK TELEGRAPH GETS IT VERY WRONG

This week, the UK Telegraph published a lengthy article describing “convicted terrorist” Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s process of radicalization and, quite frankly, defending her rendition kidnapping, her 5 years of rape and torture, and the murder of her children by CIA paid contractors.

If only this were the whole story, a cover up of torture as part of a war on terror. It is not. The Telegraph has a long reputation of being a cover story “drop box” for MI-6, so the story was passed around quickly among those who take a special interest in such things.

This week a source within the Able Danger investigation, working directly with the Department of Defense and IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and part of the original team that brought down rogue FBI agent Robert Hansen as well, tells of a different story regarding Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

She was a CIA agent targeted by the Bush administration because her operational unit, headed by Valerie Plame, one involved in NNP (nuclear non-proliferation) was ready to order the arrest of Vice President Dick Cheney and top officials of the US Department of Energy, the organization that, with the Department of Defense, maintains America’s nuclear weapons inventories.

Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger of the Reagan era, was arrested at his home one morning by a similar operational unit for crimes committed in the Iran-Contra Affair and was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice.

After the 2000 US presidential election where George Bush (43) won by a nose, compliments of a Supreme Court ruling, loyal elements in defense and security became convinced the election began a coup, as some of the principals being investigated for their involvement in illegally acquiring and distributing stolen US nuclear weapon pits were placed in top positions to block any attempts of their being exposed by the ongoing investigations.

BACKGROUND

After 9/11, the US set out to create what appeared to be a worldwide terror organization, in order to justify both a political crackdown within the US and, as had been made public on many occasions by former NATO head General Wesley Clark… the long planned military takeover of the Middle East and Central Asia.

Part of this plot involved creating a cover story involving 500 tons of “yellowcake uranium”, supposedly bought by Al Qaeda and transported to Iraq to supply a nuclear program later found to never have existed. The Bush White House, at the orders of Vice President Dick Cheney, went to a terrorist group within the Italian intelligence agency, SISMI, part of the group responsible for the Gladio terror bombings and the kidnapping and murder of Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro.

They created documents outlining imaginary transactions and sent them to CIA headquarters in Rome. SISMI chief Nicolo Pollari took the reports directly to the White House, where Cheney asked friends within the CIA and Department of Energy — part of a covert working team that included arms smuggler Victor Bout — to prepare reports citing the severity of the threat posed by these known forged reports.

DEEP BACKGROUND

A US Army intelligence group working within Israel, headed by Colonel James Hanke, had discovered that the nuclear weapons facility at Dimona had suffered a catastrophic accident between 1988 and 1990. Israel’s nuclear weapons inventory could no longer be maintained and expanded from domestically-produced weapons grade nuclear material.

Israel’s complicity was proven when, according to sources within the IAEA and Able Danger team, a combined operation between the US Department of Defense and Department of Justice, initially headed by FBI Agent John O’Neill, had discovered discrepancies in the US nuclear weapons inventory.

It was not just 350 missing nuclear pits, but fully one third of America’s post SALT II (Strategic Arms Limitations Talks) inventory. The records of our nuclear weapons inventory had been systematically sabotaged to hide this attack on America’s weapons inventory, or so they thought.

Able Danger established the presence of an espionage organization answerable personally to Benjamin Netanyahu. The organization included the then head of the Dept. of Energy, the AIPAC Lobby, the Anti-Defamation League, key commanders of America’s nuclear forces, the Joint Special Operations command under VP Dick Cheney, and members of the International Atomic Energy Agency, a UN organization.

Their investigation had tied corrupt officials at the highest levels of the US Department of Energy to the leak of classified nuclear “pit” configuration data and altering records of decommissioned nuclear weapons. Three hundred fifty W54 nuclear warheads were missing from inventories at the Pantex nuclear facility in Amarillo, Texas.

An investigation team led by Roland Carnaby, the CIA agent killed in a mysterious shooting in 2005, discovered that the missing “pits” had been stolen and taken to a nearby meat packing facility, where they were sorted using leaked DOE data in order to allow them to be safely melted down and reconfigured to replace the depleted Israeli stockpile.

Investigators from the DOE and IAEA confirm that weapons from this stolen stockpile were used in the demolition of the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001 — nuclear “pits” originally produced at the Hanford DOE facility in Washington. This information was part of the highly classified 2003 9/11 report given to congressional and White House leaders only, and later leaked by Russian Naval Intelligence, believed to have been among a trove of documents received from Edward Snowden.

In March 2013, a group of business executives meeting in Tulsa, Oklahoma, received a briefing on the 2003 “Nuclear 9/11” report as part of a “Threat Assessment Conference” where Veterans Today staff were among the presenters. The briefing also included a version of the now famous “Shrimpton nuclear scare” story, confirming the recovery of a missing nuclear weapon somewhere in the EU in 2012.

9/11 AND AFTERMATH

9997776Leaked documents on the Able Danger investigation, received in September 2014 revealed that most investigation functions had ended in 1998 at the request of President Clinton, then under impeachment threat tied to his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, in a reputed Mossad “honey trap.”

Investigative chief and FBI Special Agent John O’Neill left government service and pursued leads until his untimely death during the 9/11 “event”. According to a 2005 report, thirty-five of the Able Danger investigators were also killed on 9/11, when the Pentagon office they were called to for an emergency briefing by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Myer, (who did not show up for the meeting and did not die, a lucky day for him) was demolished by an airliner, though little or no physical evidence of such a happenstance exists.

After 1998, the FBI investigation team was divided into two units under the supervision of Special Agent Mike Dick; one team was tracking arms dealer Victor Bout, and was coordinated with IAEA investigators. The second unit investigated the theft of the “pit matching” documents and centered on the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC, eventually leading to the arrest of leaders of that group.

Charges were later dropped when the White House refused to turn over required evidence, and Attorney General John Ashcroft, one of the key planners of the CIA torture program, ordered an end to the investigation. Witness statements included testimony indicating White House officials had passed key nuclear secrets to Israeli embassy representatives at a Washington cocktail party in the presence of both Paul Wolfowitz and Condoleezza Rice.

The second unit, assisted by CIA agent Roland Carnaby, followed the theft of nuclear weapons from the sorting facility near Amarillo to a fertilizer plant outside Waco, Texas. In April 2014, as Snowden reputedly handed Able Danger documents to Russian intelligence, the plant where the nuclear weapons were stored, the West Fertilizer Plant, was destroyed in a massive explosion, killing 15.

The entire operation was run by Victor Bout, working directly for the office of the Vice President of the United States, according to private sources with access to the Plame/Siddiqui investigation.

The nuclear pits had been moved by truck to the Port of Houston, where they had been placed on ships and transferred to the Canary Islands and later to Mauritania. The weapons were, according to Able Danger documents, stored at a mine controlled by former South African Prime Minister De Klerk inside a region controlled by the rebel Polisario Front. From there, weapons were sold to Taiwan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and other nations, along with restocking Israel.

Other weapons were set aside for use by intelligence agencies. IAEA sources report weapons from Hanford/Pantex were used for the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, at the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996, the destruction of the World Trade Center in 2001, and the Bali bombing in 2005. The IAEA confirms up to 50 nuclear weapons have been used surreptitiously since 1945, often in configurations that minimize blast and radiation.

THE CIA’S FORGOTTEN CHILDREN

There are strange parallels in the story of two accused “Al Qaeda” operatives. While the general public thinks of Al Qaeda as a terror group, in truth, according to Able Danger documents, Al Qaeda is a joint operational sector of Saudi, Israeli and US intelligence. This dirty little secret has compromised American security greatly, due to the blackmailing position both of these countries have had over the US.

Two of the major “terror figures” of Al Qaeda, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and Osama bin Laden, have been confirmed, at the highest levels, to be CIA operatives. After 9/11 both fled… Dr. Aafia to Karachi and bin Laden, who had recently received kidney treatments at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where members of congress and top VIPs receive their care, to Tora Bora.

Bin Laden died of complications from advanced kidney disease on December 13, 2001, after denying any involvement in 9/11 and advising those concerned to “look closer to home” (CIA FOIA Press Release dated 24 September, 2001.)

The curious story of Bin Laden and his second “death” in Pakistan is similar to that of Aafia Siddiqui with her reputed murderous attack on her CIA captors during a waterboarding session at Bagram Air Force Base.

Prior to the release of the recent and highly controversial CIA torture report, the reputed actual “re-killer” of bin Laden came forward. The story, as we are told, has an aging bin Laden in the upper floor of a home in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Bin Laden is said to have leapt to his feet, grasping an AK47 in one hand while holding a hostage in another. While standing on a bed, bin Laden is brought down in a hail of gunfire, like something out of a cowboy film.

The Aafia story is if anything worse.

We are told Dr. Aafia, confined to a wheelchair, in this case “literally” held down by handcuff “tie raps”, was brought in for a waterboarding session. The US Air Force facility had been hosting summary execution and torture sessions for Aafia and other prisoners for years. Aafia had been raped repeatedly. She was down to 80 pounds and unable to walk.

There the story, an analog of the bin Laden tale, gets more bizarre. Dr. Aafia is said to have broken her tie wraps, listed as “ISO 527-1:2012 standard,” in a fit of rage. There were five men in the room, most over 200 pounds, four of whom were “special operations trained”, including one US Navy Seal, one CIA agent and two FBI agents. The fifth member was a “translator,” please pay attention as this will be an important point.

The crippled 80-pound torture and rape victim is reputed to have knocked all four men to the ground, seizing an M4 carbine from one of them. According to transcripts, in order to save the lives of the four “terror war-fighters”, the “translator”, using his weapon shot Dr. Aafia in the abdomen.

This is the crime Dr. Aafia was convicted of, not terrorism but resisting torture. Now here comes the most curious part of all. Dr. Aafia lived in the United States for 11 years, the wife of a Boston anesthesiologist. Aafia taught at MIT, where she received her doctorate in microbiology before joining the CIA.

Aafia had spoken English all her life, published in English and taught in English at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Why did she need a translator? You just can’t make this stuff up… or can you?

Banking giant HSBC is facing damaging claims that its Swiss division helped wealthy customers - including Australia's Kerry Packer - dodge millions of dollars in taxes after a "SwissLeaks" cache of secret files emerged online.

The documents published at the weekend claim the bank helped clients in more than 200 countries evade taxes on accounts containing $US119 billion ($A153 billion).

The huge cache of files, which were stolen by an IT worker in 2007 and passed to French authorities, has sparked criminal probes in several countries and attempts to claw back the cash. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) obtained the files via French newspaper Le Monde, and shared them with more than 45 other media organisations worldwide.

The documents showed that HSBC opened Swiss accounts for international criminals, businessmen, politicians and celebrities, according to the ICIJ.

The revelations are likely to stoke calls for a crackdown on sophisticated tax avoidance by the wealthy and by multinational companies, a key political issue across Europe. Tax avoidance is legal, but tax evasion is not.

"HSBC profited from doing business with arms dealers who channelled mortar bombs to child soldiers in Africa, bag men for Third World dictators, traffickers in blood diamonds and other international outlaws," ICIJ reported.

A range of current and former politicians from Russia, India and a range of African countries, as well as Saudi, Bahraini, Jordanian and Moroccan royalty, and the late Australian press magnate Packer were named in the files.

Following the bombshell disclosure, there were calls for a Swiss probe against the bank, which is already facing prosecution in France and Belgium.

"I am angry," former Swiss foreign minister Micheline Calmy-Rey told public broadcaster RTS, claiming the scandal had seriously damaged Switzerland's reputation. HSBC shares sank 1.97 per cent to 608.60 pence in early afternoon trading in London.

So far Switzerland has only launched an investigation against HSBC employee-turned-whistleblower Herve Falciani, who stole the files at the heart of the scandal. The files were used by the French government to track down tax evaders and shared with other states in 2010, leading to a series of prosecutions.

HSBC's Swiss banking arm insisted it has since undergone a "radical transformation".

"HSBC's Swiss Private Bank began a radical transformation in 2008 to prevent its services from being used to evade taxes or launder money," Franco Morra, the head of HSBC's Swiss unit said.

He said the bank had closed the accounts of clients "who did not meet our high standards" and had "strong compliance controls in place", adding that the disclosures were "a reminder that the old business model of Swiss private banking is no longer acceptable".
