    Default Stone found outside Baghdad

I need help finding some information on this rock. My friends dad found this while stationed outside of Baghdad a few years ago. He found it while digging a hole for his tent about 4 feet down.

The rock appears to have hieroglyphic markings and some fingerprints. There are also what look like possible blood stains. Also some discoloration of blues and greens.

    Any info is appreciated, thanks

perhaps it was an ancient "quarter"!,........Please forgive me!,......I couldn't resist. (Ha, Ha!)

On a serious note, it does look fascinating, and hope you get the answer you are looking for!

Upon further review, if you had "3" more of these, they would appear to form a circle when placed together, perhaps making it worth a "whole dollar". Maybe it is a Baghdad "quarter" after all!

You know the man who produces "Ancient Aliens" on the History Channel is Giorgio Tsoukalos, right? His knowledge is vast because he has visited EVERY important site on the planet. He's into all of that kind of stuff, speaks many languages, can interpret ancient ones.... He's a good choice for this.
I'm suggesting that you Email him your pictures and ask him if he might be able to tell you something. Who knows? Maybe it'll appear on one of the shows...

That is really one impressive piece of history, there!

Maybe you could contact the folks at this site:

    http://xfacts.com/ancient/

They have the largest on-line exhibition of Sumerian artifacts, some Egyptian and some Persian things.

    Morning Song,

I was just about to say it definitely looks Sumerian to me also.

Maybe Bill Ryan can give you information on how to contact Klaus Donna. He is a researcher of ancient sites.

I wish he would have found a bag of old gold instead, I always wished to find a bag of gold inadvertently like that, while digging for something else (very few possibilities in Canada of that).

I saw hundreds of things similar to these, from other ancient cultures, in Turkey. I would tell the Turks why they would not collect them and put them in Museums or study them. They would laugh at me, telling me there is of these artifacts on every corner you go. While travelling the country, I was laughing to myself because there were artifacts litterally on every corner almost, I was feeling like Indiana Jones pursuing something within thousands of similar artifacts.

So, this may mean something or may be not much. Only someone capable of reading the script can tell. I saw a scrip in Roman writing that I thought fantastic and when asking for the translation it was written: here is the brothel. (true story) lol - my Indiana Jones imagination was much more potent than imagining a brothel advertising.

Thanks for the sources, I have emailed Xfacts and hope for a reply. I don't know where to start or how to describe it to come up with any related info, so the help is appreciated.

It is possible that it may be a valuable find. Just because there are fragments everywhere does not mean that this one is 'worthless'. It may have historical significance. Are you prepared to return it if requested to the country in which it was found? If not, keeping it is, I'm afraid, looting and conk was right.

Flash- A bag of gold coins is, in many countries, a 'hoard' and there are strict regulations as to its ownership. The excitement of finding it may be the best thing about the discovery.

It was found a few feet under the surface, it was found - not looted. His eyes may have been the first to gaze upon it in hundreds of years. It is not mine, so I have no say on what will become of it. I am still on the search of more information.

looks like it's roughly a quarter of the complete disc, three whole "characters" on it assuming with the other parts of the disk there would be 12 or 13 characters , maybe something to do with zodiac (if 13) old zodiac)

Most artefacts are below the present-day surface. They still belong to the country in which they are found. It is possible that this piece of pottery has no historical significance--- or it could be a new Rosetta stone, the original of which was taken from its country to another, in this case, European, country. Had it been purchased, or passed for exportation by authorities, there would be no controversy.

In Australia various artefacts are slowly being returned by the museums and private people who took them away many years ago. I support this.

What an exciting MYSTERY!!..One can only IMAGINE what the face represents at the top left of the second oval.
I wonder if a rubbing (the way people copy information from very old tombstones) would make the figures at
the top any clearer. ??? Keep us posted. M6*
