Default Current Radiation Readings from Around the World

This is a world map that consists of areas where people are monitoring nuclear radiation levels and reporting them 24/7. While viewing the map, refresh the page every few minutes. The readings change.

Hi mariposafe. It's a world map. I just finished going around the world on that map. You just use the arrows in the upper left...and you're on your way.

This is an inaccurate map of my part of the world I think, unless we have a radiation source travelling up the Hume Highway! The lone indicator in all of Australia is now nearly in NSW. A few minute ago it was right on top of Melbourne! I know, maybe it's in a plane?! I am a bit uneasy that there is a mobile orange blob of radiation measuring 23 somethings meandering around Victoria, my home state which has no nuclear industries etc at all, while the Lucas Heights reactor, near Sydney, causes no recording at all! In fact we in Victoria are the sole people in the whole country frying gently under a veil of radiation.

Something's odd about this I think.

This paragraph is found under the map. The readings change. The reading that you sited in your post above, is now 22.

Typical background radiation levels for most of the USA are in the 5 to 28 uR/hr range. Readings can be higher for brief periods of time due to normal variations in radiation levels. They can also be consistently higher for areas at high elevations such as Colorado, or with larger natural deposits of uranium, thorium, radon, etc.

I understand that the readings may change - what I am having a problem with is that in the north of Australia are some of the largest deposits of uranium on the planet. Victoria is not known for having any, though we do have granite (which I believe is radio-active). Why is the enormous amount of uranium in the north not setting off the counter? I do not believe that Victoria has the same degree of radiation, right now, as does Japan.

Here is a link to Radiation Network that's more detailed for North America.

the same as in the middle of south australia... roxby downs.. there is enough uraniam there to mine for the next 90 or so years.. For medical purposes most say.. it also has over a trillion dollars of gold found there.. not even mined yet..
