Many years ago when I was a teenager I was sleeping in (now thats a surprise), when I awoke to a scratching and moaning sound which progressed to a frantic barking.

I stumbled out of bed still half asleep and opened my bedroom door to be confronted by one of our dogs who was clearly distressed. I then asked her what was wrong (because they speak English), and she (Gemma, a black standard poodle), began to lead me outside continually turning around and barking.

Eventually she led me to a pond we had half way up a very long garden we, used to have and inside the pond was an old stray dog I once kept that had followed me home once as a child but she was blind now and she had stumbled into the pond desperatley trying to stay afloat.

I quickly dragged her out of the pond and took her inside the house to dry her and comfort her. Gemma never moved from her side for the next 24 hours keeping close and watchful.

Such wonderful transient spirits, God rest to them both.
