    Hi varuna,

Personally I don't think humans have any intrinsic need for a hierarchical system so much as a system that they understand and feel secure within. Throughout history and I'm sure pre-history - this need has been exploited by a small contingent who always know how to cater to the lowest common denominator. Humans take as naturally to their nobler aspects as their baser. As people finally cotton on to what's being done to them ... the system of control merely changes its appearance and adopts a new and improved shop front. You can see Empires, religions and institutions playing this chameleon game throughout history. I'm definitely with you on the evolution thing, because obviously we are all equal and have worth ... but what's so disturbing is to see false evolution. Those in control must ensure that we always have someone to look down on, to resent, to hate. If we evolve beyond that manipulation then we'll really be getting somewhere.

p.s. I agree about Aussies and their easy-going warmth and good humour. It's often pretty refreshing for us Brits, isn't it?

That's Jello. Gelatin. And of course you eat it with whipped cream otherwise its reduced to the sort of crap they feed you in retirement homes.

Jelly is Jam or preserves with the solids removed!!! what is wrong with you people, no wonder you have a lizard ruling your country!! This is HER fault, she has deceived you into thinking that Jello is jelly, cookies are biscuits, and biscuits are scones, and pudding means anything for dessert, instead of custard, and that pissed means drunk instead of angry and I bet she's responsible for sticking lemonade into the beer!

Y'all need to get out that country and eat your biscuits with pork sausage gravy the way God intended if he weren't so busy saving the Queen. SHE"S not the one who needs to be saved...YOU DO! You eat pudding made out of blood for Christ's sakes, whose idea do you think that was!!

But I am curious enough to go make a cucumber sandwich.
Wow do you really only use pudding to mean custard? It's times like this I struggle to find the underlying oneness that unites all of humanity. You're all so strange

Pudding IS custard. At least its supposed to be. Here in the US it's flavored cornstarch.

I've had this argument with my auntie, who'd always inquire if there was pudding after a meal.

    No we're having cake.

    That's pudding.

    No.It's. Not.

    IT"S CAKE dammit!!

Humans have a need for hierarchy which to keep them safe, its just an offshoot of slave mentality.

There are natural occuring hierarchies or arrangements that shift and evolve constantly where no one entity is in power or in the lead long. Power positions revolve, one observes this in nature with social animals. No one is alone in power, no one person has all the responsibility, with so many participating safe conditions are created. Safety in numbers doesn't mean an army of sheep following the shepherd. It means what it means.

We are inclined towards this sort of hierarchy, everyone has a place, and the lead positions are revolved through.

What we see today is corruption and perversion of that naturally occurring hierarchy.

When you see someone who is a true leader they begin assign leader positions as equals according to ability, not start assigning themselves as 'the' leader and everyone else should follow or be subordinate because the leader knows as circumstances shift they will be in non-leading position for a time in order to keep the organization rolling forward.

Unfortunately 'being' a leader and having power makes one feel safe.

A sign of strength is the ability to be safe even one does not have a fixed leadership role, and no overt fixed position of power over another.

Appalling. I am shocked that for all that stiff sensible upper lip you Brits have, that you should be so naive to take scones with you fishing.

You're supposed to take BEER with you fishing!! Do know what would happen to you if you took tea and scones fishing with you here in America.

    Someone would beat you up.

Those guys who sail sailboats and swill Diet Coke?

    Their fate will be yours.

What is it about the Maori name and the New Zealand flag that makes you think he's British? American geography at its dismal finest

Luckily Tane's fellow fishers aren't such brutes

In fact we in America are British...

Is there somewhere that isn't British?

I hope your not knocking Black Pudding here! Fantastic stuff, it is!!! Couple slices on a full English breakfast - greatest thing in the world for a hangover!

It's not a dessert. It's savoury. It's a type of blood sausage and numerous countries around the world all make their own version of it.

I'm guessing what you're saying is "tongue in cheek" anyway. You'd surely not be lecturing the English on the correct use of... Well, English. ;-)

I'm stuck in complete shock that pudding is the same as custard!!!!! I cooked pudding as a treat last night as i had my grandchildren here. It was not a cake or custard, it was a pudding cooked in the oven--- apple crumble. Yummy! Pudding can also be cooked on top of the stove--- as treacle sponge pudding --- also yummy, or golden syrup dumplings which are also pudding... and extra yummy. And there's nothing wrong with scones wherever you are!

Black pudding is delicious when sliced and fried in bacon fat.......................................Clear the way--- 9eagle9 is running for the door!

And on the pronunciation topic--- the most annoying is 'mom' instead of 'mum'.

I found a recipe for it, and the first item on the list was a quart of fresh pig's blood. (I shuddered at the thought that perhaps some people short cut and use stale pig's blood).

I have to ask, where do Brits (or anyone else for that matter) just go buy a quart of pig's blood? Do you just walk into the grocer's and get it?
