What Is Your Favourite Sacred Site?

There are places you go where time simply fades into nonexistence, and you are left with a deep feeling of Presence. Perhaps, if you are quiet enough, you just may be able to hear the primordial sound of the universe.

I remember, as a child, reading a book called 'The Nargun and the Stars' by an Australian author, Patricia Wrightson. The images and characters in the book haunted me long after I put it down.

I have had recalls of a past life as an aboriginal in the very area I live now, and actually had a 'bleed through' where the me of the past became conscious of me, in some way sensed my spying upon him. This happened at a rock outcrop not far from here. Perhaps the Den of the Nargun www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nargun was another sacred site for that me.

Every time I go there, I simply sit near the pool at the base of the small waterfall, and listen. The sacredness and sense of Gravity about the site is almost palpable. In summer the drops from the rock overhang resonate on a level deeper than the physical, seeming to break the silence with a single minded purpose.

Yes, that place is a Native American sacred site called Pipe Stone quarry in Pipestone, MN . This is a spiritual site of universal peace and stone used through the ages for the sacred pipes used in ceremonies throughout the Americas.

I've done a quick check and seen some of the beautiful pipes that have been carved out of the rock there. That site must have been visited for many, many years before white man came to America. All those Native Americans, singing their songs, thinking their thoughts, mining the rocks for their pipes. Thanks for sharing, spiritguide!

During my youth, teenage and young adult years my parents had purchased a summer home in Shohola P.A. (Pocono Mountain area) just up the Mt. of Milford P.A. Every summer me and my 3 other siblings spent endless summers there which was a big change from living in a big city like NY. The area that our summer home was located was known as Sagamore Estates, this land was previously owned by The Algonquin Indians a tribe from North East America. The area had two beautiful lakes that were natural. The Wildlife was always abundant Deer, Black Bear, Chipmunk, snakes, birds etc. The Stars at nite were always abundant as well. This was a very sacred place for me to go connecting with nature. I still go there to this day with my 5 children. Total Bliss.

I enjoy the company of most trees, and spend much of my time these days exploring the woods n hertfordshire England.

However, I am usually thinking of a place called Glendalough, a place in Ireland that I really enjoyed. There is an old monastery there and was used in the 6th century.

Sacred sites to me are sites that transform... I really like the healing waters of Harbin Hot Springs in california. Many healings have taken place there and it was always a place in which i felt safe to do my spiritual work.. The water is great, but it also has a manzanita forest with old growth trees , whos trunks are shiny as golden and feel like satin when you rub up against them.... Its like the plant and water devas are at work there double time.
the whole area radiates the imprint of countless healings and incredible joy that has transpired there over the years.

My greatestt and most abundant experiences where in up state NY and penns. when I was a child. I do think that I am quite sensitive to plant devas and they are very powerful or have such a different quality than what i have found out west ... Anyway, it seemed like the whole planet at that time was sacred. It did not take Mt Shasta or anything majestic... just to be in the woods in those areas was enough. There were several waterfalls we use to go too... now residing on only the edges of memory... so long ago. I remember the fields and streams especially aound the town of Cooperstown in the glorious summer.

Here is Serra do Cipó, an amazing place about 120Km from where I live.

The place is unique. It has plants and animals that you can´t find anywhere else in the world.

It looks almost like another planet!

I spend a fair amount of time on the Big Island of Hawaii. There are three or four sacred spots on the island that I love to do ceremony in. One is on the slopes of Mauna Kea, which for many, is a sacred mountain. The other spots are by the ocean. The Big Island is also called, not without reason, 'the healing island' .... Thank you for sharing, I am one of those who are attracted to sacred sites having visited many over the last 40yrs, I do not have one site that is a favorite because they are all unique, but a few dwell in my heart due to wonderful experiences that have been life changing for me along the way.

I first visited Avebury in the 70s and still visit every year. Summer Solstice next.

This is Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu in India, the city where I was born in my previous life, I am sitting on top of The Shiva mountain of light, looking over the Shiva Temple.

For many years this was the site I most wanted to get to. Sri Ramana Maharshi was quite happy with Arunachala, the holy mountain, being referred to as linga swarupa or the form of God.

I also had a reading from the Nadi Palm leaves, the set found in Bangalore. I remember very little of the reading. It was just mind blowing at the time to conceive of a sage writing on the leaves many years in the past about visitors many years in the future. Bragg....name slipping from me........??)

We live on a canal that directly connects to the Weeki Wachee River, named by the Seminole Indians meaning "little spring", or "winding river". We refer to it as "the healing waters". I can hop in my little johnboat with the dogs after work, like I did yesterday, and be at our favorite little beach up river in 20 minutes.

Not a hint of civilization here, just the cool water and deep woods. When I need to reconnect with what's really important, this is the place to do it.


It's a bit difficult to see in the picture, but straight ahead is a little cove, the river winds to the left. It's actually a dead boil from the aquifer that used to help feed the spring, and it's 170 feet deep so divers tell me. The woods there are so dense I actually got lost one time exploring. It's hard to imagine that back in the day, the Seminoles wouldn't have based a village here.

Sometimes this is the spot to go cool off and reconnect. Just park the boat, and float around and soak it in. This place will most certainly speak to you, if you're of a mind to listen.

Thanks for sharing. And I agree. This whole planet is sacred. Including Each Tree, Mountain, Bird, Plant, Animal and all its matter. This song puts it into perspective for me.
