Default Team USA Made in China

Ralph Lauren's U.S. Olympics uniforms may be red, white, and blue…but they were manufactured in China. Sorry Peeps Im LMFAO : )

And that has some politicians pretty riled up. (Yeah Right) You corrupted politicians sold us out eons ago. And should be arrested swiftly.

MORE: 2012 Olympics: Opening Ceremony Fashion Rewind

Several lawmakers are attempting to take Lauren's company to task for the overseas manufacturing controversy, with some even going so far as to introduce a bill to prevent the team from wearing the clothes.

The bill, introduced by New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and several of her Democratic Senate colleagues last Friday, would require the U.S. Olympic Committee to "outfit Olympic athletes in ceremonial uniforms sewn or assembled in the United States," according to the Washington Post.

"The pride of our Olympic athletics goes hand in hand with the pride of American innovation and manufacturing," Sen. Gillibrand wrote to committee officials. "We shouldn't be going to the world stage with anything less. From head to toe, Team U.S.A. must be made in America."

And she wasn't the only one.

MORE: 2012 Olympics: Queen Elizabeth II on Hand to Help Pass Torch!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters, "I am so upset. I think the Olympic committee should be ashamed of themselves. I think they should be embarrassed. I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again."

So, what did Lauren have to say about the whole ordeal?

In a statement to E! News, a rep for the brand said, "For more than 45 years Ralph Lauren has built a brand that embodies the best of American quality and design rooted in the rich heritage of our country. We are honored to continue our longstanding relationship with the United States Olympic Committee in the 2014 Olympic Games by serving as an Official Outfitter of the US Olympic and Paralympic teams. Ralph Lauren promises to lead the conversation within our industry and our government to address the issue to increase manufacturing in the United States."

"We have committed to producing the Opening and Closing ceremony Team USA uniforms in the United States that will be worn for the 2014 Olympic Games."

Honestly, I think everything should be made in America again. China puts out assembly line junk. Dollar store junk. I've been thoroughly disgusted that every frigging thing is made in China. No offense to the Chinese, but do they buy American? They would because the quality would be there. And the price.
If I had my way, it wouldn't just be the Olympic teams uniforms being made in America. One of the reasons why there are NO jobs here is because of these US companies taking their factories and businesses to foreign countries for cheap labor and their own PROFIT! Never mind that they have hurt the American economy.... These are the companies I wouldn't let back in. Stay where they are. Maybe lower class Americans will get a clue and stop buying cheap junk from these companies.... But again, they GOTTA have their stuff....

Good luck finding a apparel maker left in the US after Washington passed Nafta and the Free trade agreements with World Trade Organization.

Don't you just love those pr statements, 'we've being doing this years, working with all these people etc, pride for decades etc... we'll discuss it with so and so'.
    Nothing really said about it.

The uniforms make them look like they are going on a trip on a yacht somewhere.

Just for your information, Yuhui, I kindly want to tell you that LV grand is French and not American. Confusing isn't it.

You see, the problem is not that they are the same people behind the fashion industry, which they are in fact, but that all the manufacturing, from most western countries, has been transferred to China (and maybe Vietnam). Western companies pay so little to Chinese, and the labor being different, that products coming from China are usually of lower quality, hence, cheaper.

My question here is double: Would westerners, and mostly American, be ready to pay much more for basic everyday life items such as toasters, coffee grinders, everyday clothes, and ensure they are manufacture in USA (or Canada or France respectively for each countries needs)? We want quality we pay for it, as Yuhyui says, some Chinese girl buy LV bags of higher quality as a ridiculours high price - but quality is there.

Other question: Would American be able to produce high quality everday items again? I doubt it: work ethics and employees/management moral values have taken quite a hit in the last 30 years. One reason for the American demise in the auto industry, for example, was the low quality of American cars, when compared with the Japanese, for about the same workforce cost of production. American know-how have been lost in tranfer to China and American values have been lost in transfer to PTB values. imho

Thanks for your comments Flash, i agree.

The OP might as well decry materialistic pride. This pride divides and conquers heart-mind in our world. Pushing people to think easy market pricing should should accompany high rewards. Ah yes, just like the elites have it.

    Making people covet materialism.

    Hypnotically industrializing sensations and lifestyles.

I realized this weakness in myself, early in life. It was extremely difficult to stop the practice of seeking short cuts and tricks to get higher pay and also to get higher values at lower costs. To some extent i still fail. Because i have to oppose people near me to balance these polarities involved.

Then as time passes i see how much we wastes away our planet. "Pave paradise and put up a parking lot" (Quoting Joni).

There is so little support for balancing all the confusing polarities of human life. There is too much anger inciting hate.

I hope 2012 transitions will help sort these out. For better or worse in my own status-- I will welcome a more balanced change.

Even though Im American and I dont watch TV any longer. I'm rooting for Team China in The 2012 Olympics Consciously. Reason being is we owe them alot of money , they are hard workers, they are a humble race and they made some nice uniforms for Team America. Boy this countrys in deep shyte. Kudos go out to Ralph Lauren, Haliburton and to all the corrupted corporations of america. Thanks for selling out our country.

    Go Team China!

I am sorry ghostrider, but NAFTA has nothing to do with polos or whatever else made in China. If the polos were made in Mexico perhaps. NAFTA stands for North American Free Trade Agreement, nothing to do with China.

And to tell the truth, Canadian think on average that they are much much worst off with this agreement than Americans ever were. The amounts we have been paying in international courts to have USA respect the agreements and not very often overcharge tarifications for Canadian manufacturred products while Canada does not have the money nor the power to retaliate, it is just astronomical. To us, it was a way for US to put their hand of very rich Canadian natural resources. And we say that Mulroney sold Canada to the US.

I don't know for Mexico and how it is perceived there. But it does not seem that it has been beneficial on the long run either.

The USA trade with China has been beneficial for China though.

Why not just say that the West has been sold.... which seems to be the case.

In China though, they would probably say that the West is just starting to get its fair share with the East as well, the West cannot use the slave labor of third world countries anylonger. This is what they woulld argue, while we, in fact, still see quite a lot of slave labor in US and abroad.
