Default 17-year-old sexual assault victim could face charges for tweeting names of attackers

A Kentucky girl who was sexually assaulted could face contempt of court charges after she tweeted the names of her juvenile attackers.
Savannah Dietrich, the 17-year-old victim, was frustrated by a plea deal reached late last month by the two boys who assaulted her, and took to Twitter to expose them--violating a court order to keep their names confidential.
"There you go, lock me up," Dietrich tweeted after naming the perpetrators. "I'm not protecting anyone that made my life a living Hell." Her Twitter account has since been closed.
Attorneys for the attackers asked a Jefferson District Court judge to hold Dietrich in contempt for lashing out on Twitter. She could face up to 180 days in jail and a $500 fine if convicted. The boys have yet to be sentenced for the August 2011 attack.

An online petition asking the judge to throw out the charges against Dietrich, launched Saturday, has already accumulated hundreds of signatures.

I think with us signing the petition it should 5000 by the end on the hour, it's already 4,800+

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Those boys are in violation of Common Law at least. She was brave and did the right thing imo. If these boys get harassed because of it, GOOD! it may teach them some good lessons in life. Like what integrity, honor and decency mean.
I have no faith in the US corporation's legal system anymore since I've had my one and only experience with them. I was not impressed or amused....
So, what we're all seeing is how the corrupted legal system is treating HER as if she we're the criminal....The boys should be either castrated or lobotomized because whichever they were thinking with was defective....

    This is a serious problem.

The source of the problem goes deeper though. The convolution of the american legal system is a semantic bear-trap to anyone who does not intimately know its inner workings. And beyond that, there is the problem that people have forgotten how to be responsible due to the existence of laws in the first place. In order for us to remember how to be responsible, we would first have to abolish the entire legal system and its bony mechanical webs of control.

I am a firm believer that we will eventually reach that place - a world where we as a race have overcome our predatory reptilian nature. But until something stands up and starts shaking this sh!t around, we remain in the matrix.

    Good day, everyone. With love.

I saw this on a blog and thought about the injustice of our 'justice' system. I was also shocked to see some rather vile comments made toward this young woman. When did we start blaming the victim in our society? When did we stop holding people accountable? A young woman was raped and pictures taken so the criminals could brag later. It is bad enough this happened to her , but I have a harder time with the comments that show an utter lack of sympathy, civility and just plain old morals.

I would say their names should be re-tweeted, if anyone caught the names, but not sure if that would land her in more trouble, maybe the boys would even sue.

If this judge gets re-elected there is something wrong, as a matter of fact the judge should be recalled. Judges should be wise and be selected as such. Lift the smoke, eliminate secrecy and allow shame to be assigned to those that violate another's rights. Make personal responsibility the lesson learned from the earliest age possible. IMHO

I think ever since the US justice system persecuted its first victims of rape in their courtroom that led idiots to follow suit. Those nasty comments came from ignorant fools. Until a person is victimized themselves, they won't understand how it feels. But the blame rests on the justice system. Those boys will probably suffer alot worse when they spend time inside of a prison where they become Bubba's b*tch.... They'll understand real fast how the girl felt....

IMO there is no justice system. It is a system of INJUSTICE. Sickening.
