What's happening in Myanmar *WARNING DISTURBING CONTENT*

I just received this from an Iranian friend of mine whom I consider to be intelligent and trustworthy. He told me that this is what is happening in Myanmar right now and there is a complete media blackout about it with no information available anywhere in English.

I've asked him for more details and will update this when he replies but for now take a look.

I was in two minds about posting this due to the sad, disturbing nature but in the end I decided to, because I think people need to be made aware of what is going on as I believe that could be the first step towards putting an end to it.

A United Nations senior official today expressed serious concern about reports of human rights violations committed by security forces in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, after clashes between its Buddhist and Muslim communities reportedly killed at least 78 people and displaced thousands last month.

“We have been receiving a stream of reports from independent sources alleging discriminatory and arbitrary responses by security forces, and even their instigation of and involvement in clashes,” the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, said in a news release.

“Reports indicate that the initial swift response of the authorities to the communal violence may have turned into a crackdown targeting Muslims, in particular members of the Rohingya [Muslim] community,” she added.

According to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the violence between ethnic Rakhine Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in the state, located in the country’s west, was triggered when an ethnic Rakhine woman was raped and murdered on 28 May. This was followed by the killing of 10 Muslims by an unidentified mob on 3 June.

Ms. Pillay called for a prompt, independent investigation, noting that the crisis reflects the long-standing and systemic discrimination against the Rohingya Muslim community, who are not recognized by the Government and remain stateless.

“The Government has a responsibility to prevent and punish violent acts, irrespective of which ethnic or religious group is responsible, without discrimination and in accordance with the rule of law,” Ms. Pillay said.

She also called on national leaders to speak out against discrimination, the exclusion of minorities and racist attitudes, and in support of equal rights for all in Myanmar. She also stressed that the UN was making an effort to assist and protect all communities in Rakhine state.

“Prejudice and violence against members of ethnic and religious minorities run the risk of dividing the country in its commendable national reconciliation efforts, undermine national solidarity, and upset prospects of peace-building,” Ms. Pillay said.

Meanwhile, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) today said it is delivering aid to the more than 30,000 people that were affected by the violence.

“As we speak, additional tents are being airlifted from the Republic of Korea to meet urgent shelter needs on the ground,” a UNHCR spokesperson, Andrej Mahecic, told reporters in Geneva.

Mr. Mahecic said that many people had their houses destroyed, and would only go back if they could get help building new homes, while displaced Muslims have told the refugee agency that they would like to go home but fear for their safety.

According to UNHCR, an estimated 80,000 people are displaced in and around the towns of Sittwe and Maungdaw, with most of them living in camps or with host families in surrounding villages.

The Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Myanmar, Tomas Ojea Quintana, is due to visit the country next week, and his mission there will include a visit to Rakhine state. Ms. Pillay welcomed the Special Rapporteur’s visit, but noted that “while he will be able to make an initial assessment during his one-day visit, this is no substitute for a fully-fledged independent investigation.”

Independent experts, or special rapporteurs, are appointed by the Geneva-based Human Rights Council to examine and report back on a country situation or a specific human rights theme. The positions are honorary and the experts are not United Nations staff, nor are they paid for their work

Myanmar’s Rakhine state

Rakhine is a coastal province of Myanmar, the country previously called Burma. It is between Bangladesh and Thailand.

Usually these sorts of atrocities mean that someone is stirring trouble. In this case, trouble has been brewing in Myanmar (Burma) for well over a century. See History of Burma (Wikipedia) and Internal conflict in Burma. "Since independence in 1948, the country has been in one of the longest running civil wars that remains unresolved. The country has been under military rule under various guises since 1962, and in the process has become one of the least developed nations in the world." Prior to being colonized by the British in the latter 1800's, Burma had been one of the most literate nations in the region.

It would appear that these present atrocities are being more noticed by Muslims. The Islamic Republic News Agency reports:

Islamabad, July 19, IRNA – Condemning the massacre of Muslims in Myanmar, senior Pakistani religious leader on Thursday called upon the world community to take notice of brutality against Muslims in the country.

Talking to IRNA Central vice chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan said that Muslims of Myanmar are being killed as a part of conspiracy against Ummah.

According to the unofficial reports, more than 20,000 Muslims have been killed, tortured and displaced by the extremist Buddhists in Myanmar’s Rakhine province, the worst killing in this part of the world over the years.

The military junta in Burma have been insidious to their own populace and no doubt buddhist's in that region may well have not been as tolerant to their neighbours.

muslim's have and still encounter immense difficulties in populaces that are ignorant of the effects of their actions.

but a review of the photos would suggest that some cruel and dark manipulation of the viewer is occurring

One photo is clearly in an Africian state and another photo looks like British military services in operation.

An awakened master from Burma would say, "observe the sensation of your senses (in this case-visual cognitive) reaction with impermanence to gain insight (truth)"

Very disturbing. I live next door to Burma and travel there occasionally. I can't read the Iranian source material, but this looks to be a result of the ongoing violence in the NW of the country between the Christian Assamese and Muslim Bangladeshi communities. There are those in Burma I speak to who say that for all its faults, the military rulers are the only ones who can try to stop these conflicts. Just as the country starts to get somewhere, another wave of violence breaks out and the military are forced to surpress it, and democracy. I'm not supporting the military junta, but talking to people from the country does open up the complexities of it - things which are glossed over in Western media. For years the focus was on the Chinese warlords in the NE, remnants of the kuomintang, while the troubles in the NW were suppressed.

the cure for insanity is people only putting in power other people that are sane, peace loving and concerned more for the good of others than selfish ambition. limiting one's self to not doing anything that will cause harm to others. We must not tolerate evil anymore...

Yes - a world that has little to no insanity is a world where people are told the truth at all times about their past, where they came from, who they are and what they are... by their elders.

Most can't handle the truth and are brainwashed and have fallen into traps of illusions and dogma's.......where they feel most safe.

If most people did know of their past (origins) and the truth bit them in the butt, they would go insane even more....after many many centuries of brainwashing the truth becomes even more difficult to swallow. The lies taste better as conditioning has proven over the centuries.

IMO, it's not that simple at all.....

But the truth can not be hidden by lies forever....

Added: Just like these photos of children with their heads blown off and piles of murdered "innocent" people.....most will look at this truth of what's happening and a split second later do every thing in their power to think of something else and ignore the "truth"......it scares them and they would rather find comfort in a god who they fear with less vivid photography involved, but a god who will destroy the whole world, not just a small group of people........insanity!

Take these photos to your local church or the next town hall meeting etc and show them to everyone there, odds are more people will be angry at you for showing the photos rather than being angry for whats actually happening over there.....avoiding the truth is easier in many situations...
