Default Does love at first sight actually exist?

Is the concept of love at first sight nothing more than a cliche?

Or is it possible that 2 people looking into each other's eyes for the very first time could realize that they love each other?

Could love at first sight be due to the fact that the 2 people have lived many lives together? Or is it just recognizing what is meant to be?

When I saw my cat in the rescue shelter, one of many cats, I knew she was the one.

I like the idea of love at first sight only if it turns out to be a love that survives time and place.

I don't believe in love at first sight because most people don't know what love is (although they think they do). However, lust at first site is more likely.
"There will be in the next generation or so a pharmacological method [FLOURIDE, ANTI-DEPRESANTS…] of making people love their servitude and producing dictatorship without tears… producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them but will rather enjoy it [AFTER 9/11]." - Aldous Huxley 1961 speech:"Contented with your servitude"

Mostly love at first sight is usually lust at first sight, but maybe sometimes people recognize each other because of past lives.

Who decides if it does or does not happen?, or is true? heh "who is asking the question?"

Although since it seems to happen now and again, maybe...

I have always thought of this as a resonance thing, we can become so overwhelmed when we actually find someone with such intense resonation. That we fall head over heals. Adding that it might not require the sight of the person.
Over time however sometimes we see later on that the two were not THAT good of a match but rather that the two needed one another for a time... Or perhaps for a karmic reason.
    Why not now?

Of course it is possible - I think it happens from time to time.

    Is it probable?

I think it depends on how ones perspective is regarding love at first sight, i fall in love with people on first sight at least a dozen times a day whenever i get a glimpse off their true nature, a quick nice smile, a good timed bad joke, the dog looking at me cross eyed, everything that gives me a peep into someones nature can make me fall in love at first sight, some of these first sight loves only last a few seconds or minutes, weeks, but they were there and valuable nevertheless.

That overly dramatic everlasting love concept is as dangerous as it is beautiful in my opinion, someone can hope for that one person who has everything to give and make everything ok for the rest of your life and miss all the good shorter ones in between that make life worthwhile in the meantime... i think it is best to view this subject with a more realistic view and be gratefull for all the loves and good moments wich you can have with millions off people, even when they last only seconds, minutes, weeks or months, its better to love yourself as much as you can and share that, its contageous and makes you less dependant on others, makes living with yourself a lot easier too, same goes for living with others.

I know that I occasionally experience instant recognition in a strangers eyes.

I don´t know where the recognition stems from. Same planet? Same soul group? Same frequency?

No idea. Doesn´t matter. It feels fantastic.

So yes, I think instant love can be experienced.

The the way I see it, true love is just absolute and abundant ... I figure this thread is about finding someone who resonates with you, someone you wanna be in a relationship with.

I guess the resonance in such cases had existed all along and when you eventually meet that particular person, you feel that particular resonance and you recognize it for what it is and it looks like 'love at first sight'. But in an energetical way, on another level, this affection for each other has been there all along.

I have fallen in love at first sight so often I can't even count the times on all my fingers and toes! When I was younger it was often lust and love at first sight. Now it's just love. Nothing wrong with lust at first sight either but whenever I felt the lust it was always combined with love.

One really memorable lust/love at first sight was once in the 70's I was walking through the Mexico City airport. A man was walking towards me from fairly far away. We were walking at a similar pace. As we got closer we looked at each other from a distance and we kept looking as we drew closer. The magnetism and vibrations increased the closer we got. When we got very close we were staring into each others eyes and feeling our energies. We finally stopped in front of each other and without saying a word we kissed, a long passionate kiss. We stayed in love for a couple of awesome days in a Mexico City hotel after both changing our plans so we could be together. I was on the way to Colombia and he was on the way to California. It was like meeting a long lost love. Parting was such "sweet sorrow". LOL...

It was also love at first sight with 2 of my 4 husbands, the first and the 4th, my present husband. The first time my 4th husband and I met was also at an airport. Although he was coming to see me, we had never met. We had only corresponded on the Internet for about a month and talked on the phone twice. When we heard each other's voices...we were both goners. I had never even seen a picture of him but I recognized him the minute I saw him walking into the airport. He recognized me too. He came over to me and (again) without any words we began kissing. We almost got kicked out of the airport this time as we got quite carried away! They told us to "go get a room". LOL... We left the airport, went to my house, and to make a long mushy story short, got married 3 weeks later and are still VERY much in love today, 17 year later.

So needless to say I am a great believer in love at first sight!

Love at first site, I postulate , is what we feel when we meet any new person, before the fears, judgements, separation, envies kick in.

Love at first sight is possible to anyone and will repeat frequently in those who have great capacity to express or experience love unconditionally. Recipical love at first sight is more rare. The test of if true love at first sight is real or not is that love endures. Mere infactuations and attractions do not.

Researchers into life between lives, such as Dr. Michael Newton et al, have indicated that we tend to travel with a group of souls, a family, and I have confirmed this in my own explorations. Prior to taking form in 3-D, we will establish agreements with our immediate soul group in order to have certain experiences in the upcoming life, experiences that will serve to enrich our evolution, as well as that of the group. This soul group is itself like a cell in an even vaster complex organism, eventually encompassing the totality of both visible and invisible manifestation.

Some of these agreements, or contracts, will involve us incarnating in birth family-type arangements, some in soul mate-type relationships, some in adversarial relationships, some in teacher/student relationships, and so forth -- whatever is necessary to have the particular experience(s) that will serve our goals in assuming this human form.

One unique type of soul mate relationship is called "Twin Flames". There has been a lot written about it, which one can access through their search engine of choice. Suffice it to say, much of what has come to be called "love at first sight", will likely reflect the meeting of Twin Flames (imo).

Personally, I was in a long term relationship, and relatively happy with it, when I happened to browse the web one day, and came upon a "spiritual" community in a yahoo group format. As I scanned through the posts, I came upon one that stopped me in my tracks. Inexplicably, I instantly recognized the poster in my heart (though I had never met her in this life). I wrote a letter to her, and she immediately recognized me too, before we had even seen a picture of each other.

A month later, we both had left everything and were living together, and after a decade now, our love has never been more intense. We have been able to recall many past lives together, and realize that this one now is the culmination of our earthly adventure, in which we have become fully concious of our true and indivisible original identity.

We came here to be with each other in this form -- awake -- and having done so, the main purpose of our incarnation is complete, regardless of whatever else befalls in this dreamy realm of light and shadow. I am forever grateful for all the kind beings who have graciously facilitated our reunion, and praise the Divine again and again, over and over, for this opportunity to experience unconditional love in the radiant form of my Beloved. Having known such love, I can now turn my opening heart to all sentient beings, who are all but reflections of this same love, without exception. In doing so, it become self-evident that there is only God, the Source and destination of all light, all being. Glory to That!
