Default A more efficient solar panel: V3 solar panel spins

From Spin Cell generates 20 times more electricity per cell than flat panel:

V3Solar has developed a new way to convert the sun’s energy into electricity using traditional technology in a new way, and in so doing have discovered a way to get twenty times more electricity out of the same amount of solar cells. Their new device, called the Spin Cell, does away with the traditional flat panel and instead places the solar cells on a cone shaped frame which are then covered with energy concentrators. Once in operation, the whole works spins, making unnecessary the need for tracking hardware and software. What’s more, they actually look nice.

Up till now, virtually all solar arrays have been based on flat panels with solar cells mounted on them. The panels are mounted on poles which allow for tilting to track the sun as it passes overhead in the sky. This new approach turns the old idea completely on its head.

Great Find Paul, I also wonder if this pyramidal structure adds to it's energy capabilities as well. Hence Pyramid Power!

No indication on pricing, yet, and not quite ready for mass production and sale.
    But, very interesting, very innovative.

There ya go again Dennis, straight to the practical application. Just like the Keshe Foundation, no free energy device for the market... (yet?)

I just finished listening to Sterling Allan on Red Ice Radio: http://www.redicecreations.com/radio...RIR-121012.php

    Sounds very promising ... !

    ===========================================================

I have been looking into designs how to improve solar efficiency too. I have built parabolic mirrors before and wanted to do something more simple
so I could easier and faster reproduce things (on a larger scale ? ).

My intention was to heat water and perhaps also concentrate UV light on it (to kill bugs).
So I took the idea of a reflector, 2 flat surfaces mounted at 90 degrees angle and drew a pic to see how a square tube would be lit:

But then I also discovered that a normal round pipe/tube would even be better:

Less water going through the pipe is heated from at least double the amount of sunlight.
The heating will go faster ! (I intend to boil it for distillation).

This is all only theory for now of course ... but I will be building it as soon as I finish my new
    bigger and reinforced greenhouse.

Great, is it an American inventor? WE need more like them if it is. China was wiping the floor by paying cheaper wages, but this will more than make up for living wages in America to assemble at 10.00 because at least a high school diploma is needed. Manufacturing of this product could take off like the hybrid, which has a 75% increase in sales.

Who says America isn't waking up to clean air and water?

    Not US.

    Here are a few questions:

What is the energy costs of producing such a device?

How much oil will be burned?

How much soil will be destroyed mining for the minerals required?

What is the environmental impact of the chemicals used in the productions process of this device?

    Who will own the patents?

Who will own the resources required for mass production?

Very interesting and if genuine a very significant breakthrough. However...

"Twenty times more electricity out of the same amount of solar cells." Note: not UP TO twenty times but TWENTY TIMES.

Does that mean the efficiency is increased by a factor of 20? Currently the best achieved sunlight conversion rate (solar panel efficiency) is around 21% (From this article in The Independent newspaper). Lets assume they are going to use reasonably efficient cells, but perhaps not the very best and most expensive - so say 16%. Twenty times more efficient suggests 320% efficiency. Even an 8% conversion rate gives 160% efficiency. Err... over unity?

Perhaps V3 Solar really have developed a way of using clever optics to kick out 20 times more electrons from a conventional solar panel, in which case a clear statement of the power density in watts-per-square-foot their device produces compared to others (and this figure is conspicuous by its absence in their promo video) would clarify their claims.

On the other hand the device and its promotion has a passing resemblance to the Orbo magnetic generator developed by Steorn.

Sorry to p*** on the parade everyone, but I'm waiting for independent evaluation.

But if a genuine breakthrough, I'll buy one!

    Regards,

    Nick
