We had very high wind in Ontario, Canada today. Here are photos taken this morning on the shore of Lake Ontario, near where I was born and grew up. The water looks black from the sand churned up in the strong waves. An lady artist took the photos and shared them with me.

I'd left the Avalon forum for the day, but then saw this incredible photo taken by a friend of a relative who lives in Nova Scotia, Canada. It was taken two days ago and is so beautiful, I thought to share it here. It is Villa Saint-Joseph du Lac.

Here is a picture of an Ocotillo plant a friend recently sent me. It's my favorite desert plant. They are indigenous to the American Southwest. Very beautiful in the Spring.

Hello, Nature Lovers! It's so nice to see so many beautiful new posts here.
According to the Facebook page I saw this photo on, this magical phenomena is found only on Maui.

Further on my post above (#367) of the Nova Scotia lake with buildings on the shore: I learned after posting this that my cousin lives on the lake in this photograph.

And then tonight her relative posts THIS PHOTOGRAPH of an owl in mid-flight - it's by Italian photographer Jacopo Rigotti.

A waterway in Denmark this week - in the middle of the Jutland Peninsula more-or-less west of Copenhagen - pic taken by daughter there. This is part of a network of small muddy waterways that provide perfect habitat for brown trout - when these trout head out to sea they grow very large, before coming back to spawn in these waterways. They do not die after spawning as salmon do, but can spawn another year.

Meeradas, I went to the link you gave. The landscapes hardly look real. Here is one daughter took...she hiked here alone for a few days. East-ish of Reykjavik.

There's something about owls that has always fascinated me.

Snowy Owl from The Living Bird, a new book from iLCP Fellow @gerritvyn and The Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Snowy Owls are spectacular white birds of the Arctic, birds that normally go unseen by most of us. But every few winters lemmings (on which Snowy Owls feed) reach a high in their population cycle, which results in many more young owls fledging than normal. These young owls must spread out in all directions to find food through the winter, especially if the lemmings begin to decline. When this happens, hundreds of snowies travel south and invade our northern states, giving us a glimpse into the mysterious lives of nomadic birds that have evolved to thrive in the cold darkness of an Arctic winter.

A number users replied with their own photos of a similar .
The phenomenon is called cloud iridescence.
When parts of a cloud are thin and have tiny droplets of a similar size, light is diffracted or spread out, which causes various light wavelengths to emerge at different angles.
We perceive these wavelengths as colours, therefore creating a rainbow-like effect.
Unusual weather formations have been seen before over the Caribbean. In September, the sighting of a pileus, or ‘cap cloud’ over Costa Rica led a number of people to believe the world was ending.
