The science channel is airing a fascinating bit on Dark Matter, Dark energy, and a few other things about the universe yesterday, and today.

Definitely worth the watch!

Narrated by Morgan Freeman, it goes into how the inclusion of dark matter provided the solution for
how galaxies were formed,
How solar systems formed withing them.

How "Dark energy" appears to be part of the reason the Universe is not only still expanding, but also accelerating in that expansion.

This was an enjoyable hour spent.
A very decent explanation of what is known about "Dark Matter" and things related.

In fact, this explanation of 'dark matter', tied into the notion of universal creation, in such a way that it left me wandering off a'thinking (something a man should never do).

Dark matter has gone from a theoretical possibility, to a handy gap-filling convenience that make theories behave more like life, to a theory with detectable effects. then lo and behold, finally a detectable piece of reality!

In fact, in the period 2006-2009 one scientist has actually detected two (count'em 2!) dark matter particles! (gotta start somewhere, ya know)

Anyway, I am still thinking, and will probably write up some thoughts for public destruction later today.

The Science Channel story is cool but there are other explanations for the so called "dark matter".

I am not qualified enough to say which one is best but you should also check out the work of Nassim Haramein:

"Dark matter" may very well be some "invented stuff" to accomodate the current incomplete theory of how galaxyies are formed.

Again I am no scientist, but what Nassim has to say makes more sense to me personally than "dark matter"
