Yes. I believe that the course has an agenda not conducive to the human condition. Its philosophy is circular. At every level there is missing information. As a thought structure it is comprehensive, yet at a practical level the pertinent bits are hidden behind rhetoric.

Yet that is not its appeal or its strength.

The book introduces you to a new way of accessing information that may have not truly occurred to most. The universe is a field of information and it resonates perfectly with a peaceful mind. It must be conscious because it talks back! But in order to hear its unadulterated replies the recipient must have cleared themselves or at least have some measure of control over their ego.

The universe and the ego have a massive conflict of interest - you!

The book attempts to separate the ego from the authentic self, the existential side of human beings. This is misinterpreted by the ego as a threat. Yet that is only because the ego was made to protect the body, while the soul is creation itself. The body is merely a vehicle, the soul is the driver within.

Having misidentified with the body, the soul is a forgotten asset. It should be taught in school because it can be learned. The soul is a mighty force that has no equal. It is the reason we are here.

It would bode us well to make friends with ourselves.
    If not now, then when?

According to the late Dr David Hawkins, who was all for the course, its possible the first part was channelled from a different source than the work book daily lessons.
I would say that ACIM is a useful aid but I doubt that many became enlightened through it.

Self esteem is a good thing, honest pride in accomplishment is ok, ego as in identification with the story of me, is not helpful.(aggrandizing)
Hawkins said not to make the ego an enemy but did write a book on "Transcending the ego"

"The moment you take up a position, know that you are identifying with an illusion"
Thats a great quote from ACIM
