Question can't explain strange lights in the sky

Hi avalonians i have been seeing strange sets of lights in the sky over the past year. they look like a group of bright stars bunched closely together quiet a group large as well. at first i thought it could be planet Venus so i did some research, and came to the conclusion that it could not be Venus because Venus looks like a single bright star were as what i have been observing looks like a closely bunched group of bright stars also one night it can be in one part of the sky then the next night it has move to a completely different part of the sky.i have also observed some of the lights/stars (don't real no what to call them) at the edges of the group turn on and then off the whole thing is not flickering just the lights/stars on the edges of the group turn on and off every few second i also have observed two bunches/groups of these light/stars on the same night in two different parts of the sky the bunches/groups are big two about 1/3 the size of the moon. they are visible all night almost every night but Ive only noticed them this year. also they look similar to a UFO Ive seen but i'm not saying it's aliens thou i don't know what they are,so does any one have an idea or explanation of what they might be.

UFOs? Lucky you. I've got overcast most of the time. What stars?

    Hi there
Here is some help - it is an online star map. You just click the city and it will give you the stars in the sky. It is quite cool. There is an app for iPhones as well, based on your gps location.

yea it's cloudy tonight down here two.by the way the UFO I've seen was cool i was out one night just looking up at the sky asking the ET's to prove that they are real, after about an hour nothing had happened so i decided to go back inside, as i was walking to my back door i noticed some lights/stars (very similar to what i am seeing now)in the sky were there had not being any there before. As soon as i noticed them they started to move there was no sound, it was moving to slow to be a jet or plane. It glided along from the southern part of the sky over my back yard to the north eastern part of the sky it slowly dimmed then went out. it was a lovely experience i felt in tune with the UFO and i got a warm positive feeling from it.

As others have pointed out, the best place to start is with a star chart. These little plastic jobs are pretty handy and with a red led flashlight you can take it outside with you and compare the chart to the sky: Miller Planisphere.

A light gliding across the sky can be a satellite. These are actually quite common and you can see a lot of them within a few hours after sunset or a few hours before sunrise. A good place to check for expected satellite crossings is Heavens Above.

We have seen a number of "satellites" this year doing distinctly non-satellite type things like flashing repeatedly and coming to a stop. The other sorts of displays that seem to be typical in my area are streaks (moving craft turns light on and then off), flashes (just like it sounds), and repeat flashes (moving craft flashes X times). Exactly what is it about that current situation that you want to remain the same?
