    Default The EVENT

Tonight NBC premieres a new show called THE EVENT... more programming for the masses

The show's tag line is: WHAT WILL YOU BELIEVE?
Quote Just think a secret so secret that the President of the United States of America is not on the Need-To-Know list—one that would change the course of history were it to become widespread public knowledge.
Also in the media... "UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record" is on the New York Times best seller list and last week a Vatican Astronomer released a statement in which he had said he would Baptize an Extraterrestrial, if one asked him to.

    Interesting times!

Yeah me too... I quit TV 3 years ago and it totally changed my life for the better! It's no accident that they call it PROGRAMMING.

I threw my television out on the day the "Digital TV Conversion" went into effect, so it's been just over a year.

When someone reinvents the wheel, I suppose they'll have to send me a telegram about it

I've largely shunned TV for news and entertainment. Still watch it for weather, sports, and TCM and Silver Screen Classics (they stopped making good movies once the 70's hit; good music once the 80's hit; and good wines probably once the last Teenth-century turned, but hey, that's another thread-in-waiting).

I'm trying to wean myself off sports, but being a sports nut from the age of single digits (NFL, especially), letting go of three hours every Sunday, actually six and sometimes nine ... is proving difficult. My football Patriots lost, my college Wolverines almost chunked it to a division II program, and Red Sox Nation has entered the December month of 2012, leaving me mired in negative energy for the better part of the weekend. Never fear! Project Avalon has worked the cavalry horses and turned my energy!!! Ben Hur would be proud!

Perhaps I should just chuck the TV altogether. The internet gives me everything I need anyways, from the five youTubian music bees: Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Beatles and Bozart ... to chess ... to free energy blueprints. The TV mainly gives me pain and suffering. The decision should be easy. Alas, they of Powers That Be, have designed this thing exquisitely, a cathode syringe that pulls in any mindnumbing drug of choice and pushes it in deeply.

Yes, I really think I should. Hmmm ... what if simple chucking is not enough? Might have to rent a grand piano and fix me a ceiling winch just above the ... Yeah, like I was saying ...

    Cheers
    Uncle Zook

Zook, huge sports nut here too. Huge Wolverine fan too, Saturday I was none too happy. Glad to see I'll have a sports buddy here too. I as well spend my weekends (probably a total of close to 24 hours) watching sports. Sometimes (or maybe I'm rationalizing, lol) that sports are a good way for me to release any aggression or anger I have. Better the TV, than people

    Poor zook 'n Beth...

Y'all go that close, and then...
You threw out every form of electronic mass programming, and then held on to the true "Opiate of the masses", football. Sigh...
Not even so much as a beer chaser (NASCAR)

Now, I do run a small post-madness group therapy session at my house. We meet every other Sunday. There is a pot luck dinner, the occasional 'adult beverage', and of course...
    Formula 1 auto racing!

That said... Wife and I are movie junkies, 1st class.
But... We gave up network, or cable news and crap episodic TV shows back in 1987, and never looked back. Neither one of us have ever seen an episode of things like Seinfeld, Friends, ANY of the stupid cop shows, and not one single "reality show" (How can it be reality, if it has a script?)

What would these ppl do with their time, me wonders?
    Fred

We stopped watching about six months ago...its amazing how much reading, painting and fixing one can do with all that 'new' freed up time! My husband does miss the Formula 1 though.

I've not had a TV for over 15 years, now.

What is this 'television' thing you speak of?

Arpheus, I am a very bad girl. I partake in these earthly pleasures, but all in the name of experimentation for research. Yeahhhhhhh, experimentation, that's the ticket!!!

Anyone can tell what was that blast which made the airplane disappear?
To me it looked like some kind of torsion field described by Richard Hoagland.

It sort of seemed like a stargate. Interesting how that scene also seemed 9-11ish.

Ok, I'll confess, I'm probably the only one, but I watch TV. It really keeps me in touch with what my students are in to, and what the public is seeing. I see merit in it only for information collection and some entertainment. It doesn't affect how I feel or what I know. I am more directed and on the path more now than ever before.

I see that show as somewhat intriguing. I will watch it again. If it does have to do with alien presence, something has to help to soften up and prepare the naysayers. Plus I enjoy something a little scifi much more than the regular BS stuff.

Mandala, you aren't gonna get any judgment from me for watching tv. And yeah, I'm gonna watch the next episode too!

Could very well be... however, we'll probably find out in the next episode(s).

BTW, if one don't have a TV you can watch it on nbc.com I believe.
