10 reasons you should drink beer

Sunday, March 24, 2013 by: Sandeep Godiyal

(NaturalNews) Many think that beer is harmful. Well, you should know that the popular beverage is actually synonymous with benefits as long as it is consumed in moderation. To discover the perks enjoyed by beer drinkers, you should read on.

    Heart health

You should keep in mind that your heart enjoys beer. Specifically, it has been determined by scientific experts that the alcoholic drink is more than capable of lowering bad cholesterol levels. Furthermore, the beverage tends to increase the amount of good cholesterol in the body.

    Bone boosts

It should also be emphasized that drinking beer is a surefire way of strengthening your bones. Indeed, due to the drink's high silicon content, each sip translates into a boost in bone density. In fact, even postmenopausal women could fortify their bones in such a manner.

    Digestion pro

While not often mentioned even by those who love both beer and science, the popular beverage actually contains fiber. This means that drinking such a refreshing beverage would allow you to conveniently cleanse your colon and attain a much better bowel movement.

    Kidney cleanser

Soon enough after drinking beer, you would have the urge to pee. With this in mind, it becomes clear that alcoholic beverages do have the capability to act as a diuretic and thus cleanse the body of substances that are considered to be kidney-stone builders.

    Avoid diabetes

Such an alcoholic drink also has the potential to reduce your chances of developing diabetes. Simply put, beer can effectively lower the blood sugar level of those who drink it. In fact, beer drinkers are 25 percent less likely to develop such a disease than non-drinkers.

    Beauty perks

Since beer contains protein, such a refreshing beverage could make your skin and hair look much more appealing. After all, such parts of your body are essentially made up of protein. It should be pointed out though, that certain beers have higher protein content than others.

    A wise move

Your favorite party drink has brain-enhancing effects as well. Indeed, for reasons not yet completely understood, consuming alcohol protects the brain from aging-related degradation. Of course, this means that individuals who drink beer are able to think much more quickly than non-drinkers.

    A vitamin mix

Many assume that beer would never be able to satisfy those who continuously scrutinize drinks based on nutritional content. Well, if you are among such people, then you would be pleased to know that the alcoholic beverage contains zinc, potassium, riboflavin, and many other nutrients.

    Escaping carbs

While not necessarily free of carbohydrates, beer is not among the most carb-filled beverages on the market. Specifically, a bottle of the common beer merely contains around five grams of carbohydrates, which in turn means that avoiding weight gain while drinking is possible.

    Especially iron

Particular kinds of beers contain considerable amounts of iron. Of course, you might question the significance of having such a mineral in your drink. Well, it would be best to emphasize that iron makes oxygen-carrying cells throughout your body function efficiently.

Overall, it is undeniable that drinking beer in moderation is a much healthier course of action than many believe it to be.

    But what about the RUM?

I've recently switched to RUM as my drink of choice, beer is expensive down here & rum isn't.. I wonder how many common benefits there are in the various alcoholic drink; perhaps it's just the fermented goodness that our bodies enjoy.

In Ireland they say of Guinness ' there's the eatin and the drinkin in it".......in fact its a very low calorie beer compared to most, people assume the dark colour stout is loaded with calories but its not so. Then there is the Irish seven course meal, a six pack and a potato!

Some of us are blessed (or cursed, unless you have an abundant supply of $8 bottles of rum like me... haha) with an abundant amount of Dehydrogenase; it's very easy for me and my father to drink and not get a hang over, in fact I can't remember the last time I did, though I don't drink like I'm 20 any longer either.

I've often wondered if this enzyme couldn't be harrnessed to produce a "sober you up" drink or pill of some sort....

We have a Captin Morgans plant here to accompany an old rum maker called Cruzan rum; both sell for around $8 a bottle for some wonderful reason here on the islands (probably due to a lack of a tax structure for one of the oldest companys in the VI.. Cruzan rum has been around since the turn of the century. )

Although I do prefer Puerto Rican rum by far

I read in a German alternative news and health newsletter that beer is not what it used to be. Apparently, some centuries ago, beer had all manner of herbal ingredients that were said to have psychedelic effects and would help people communicate with spirits. Then one of the usual suspects, the church, came into the mix and the German Reinheitsgebot (law of purity - maybe a poor translation, but hey...) was introduced allowing only water, malt, hops and barley to be used for beer and nothing else. While this is good for taste, and a lot of the world tends to agree with me on that I guess, it made beer lose all of its other properties, reducing it to a headache-inducing and non-spiritual drink.

Furthermore, most of the beer sold in the UK is 'brewed in the UK under license of [insert foreign beer brand here]'. It is hard, at least to me, to convince myself that the already perhaps not so high quality of a beer from its country of origin is maintained when brewed under license in an industrial estate in the home counties or Shropshire or wherever it's done. Now, this is where my argument descends into pure hearsay. I heard that these beers aren't even properly brewed properly, but are instead water, chemicals, foaming agents, carbonic acid, colouring, flavouring, etc. I myself cannot believe that this would be true and the source is not reliable to say the least as his entire life revolves around watching football (soccer) games and binge-drinking. Maybe someone else has heard those rumours as well?

The original point however, is that the beer that is often spoken of in terms of health benefits is really only a tiny fraction of the beer on the market, i.e. organic beer by family-owned small breweries for example
