    Default Newly discovered Amazonian Geoglyphs

"Road workers in Brazil were preparing to pave a highway through the Amazon rainforest recently, when they made an important archeological discovery -- a series of enormous earth carvings, barely perceivable from the ground. Known as geoglyphs by researchers, these complex geometric designs are thought to have been crafted by ancient civilizations centuries earlier, though their purpose, to this day, remains a mystery."

Those are man made islands that the native farmers built to live on during the rainy season

Here's a couple of good articles on the subject.

Nat geo put out a great video on this subject but I can't think of the name of it?

I found an interesting blog about it. http://www.jqjacobs.net/archaeology/geoglyph.html

They dated them to be between 700 to 900 years old. The Amazon jungle is very flat, no hills. Hunting and fishing, myriads of rivers and floods in the raining season made the amazonian native a very mobile people. They had special places to live where they always come back from time to time, depending of the "new rivers". It happens very often after and before a flood that new ways are created and old are impracticable.

Maybe the villages/housing were surrounded by these carving to redirect the rain?

Hmmm, but there doesn't appear to be any raised area in the centers.
Surely if they had washed away over time, the grooves would have also.
I think it's more likely they were for holding water during drier periods, for crops etc.
Be interesting to know if they were level, but I suppose that wouldn't prove anything either way.
Bound to be some artifacts around, though I doubt we'll ever hear about it.

    Peace

There are pyramids under the thick green on the Amazon...

Anyone knows about the Akakor legend?

They used part of it as inspiration on the 4th Indiana Jones.
Only they changed the name to 'Akator'.

Exactly. The whole of Briton, Europe & especially Cymru is covered in them. It has also been said, that the ancient Cymry aka Britons (the Welsh) went to the Americas over 2000yrs ago. hence the burial mounds & stonework's which pop up & then get suppressed or destroyed.
