Day 150: Gitmo hunger strike continues amidst world's outrage

    Published on 5 Jul 2013

The US government is fighting a legal effort to stop the force-feeding of hunger-
striking detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Lawyers for several prisoners have appealed
to a Washington court to intervene - but the administration says federal judges
have no say on what happens at the camp. The mass hunger strike at the notorious
US military facility is now entering its sixth month. Nearly two-thirds of the inmates
have joined in the protest against alleged mistreatment, and detention without
trial. It's the largest strike in the camp's 11-year history. Military doctors are force-
feeding 45 detainees, to keep them alive. The highly controversial practice has
been condemned around the world - but is still being defended by US officials, as
    RT's Gayane Chichakyan reports..

150 Days of Guantanamo Hunger Strike: Special Coverage

    Published on 6 Jul 2013

Five months and counting - that's how long the inmates at the
Guantanamo Bay prison have been refusing food to protest at
what they call inhumane treatment. Despite international outrage
over the situation the hunger strike is showing no signs of
ending - today RT is taking a close look at why.

Total disgrace. Bragging to the world, that you are so powerful that you can violate every law and principle using every Sophist type argument... pathetic

As Webster Tarpley once said Obama is the puppetiest of the the puppets ever dangled in front of the American people and what a show... despite his incredible mastery of NLP and other sophisticated mannerisms, he and his Satanic crew of pedophilic criminals, from Cheney to Rumsfeld to Emanuel and his (Masters in Ballet?) are sure turning out to look like a bunch of scum bags. Nothing can cover this stench.

Good thing they have turned the US into a fascist military dictatorship before the full force of the main stream public has caught on. Rude awakening on the horizon.

I have recently been catching up with some of Alex Gibney's documentary films. 'Taxi to the Dark Side' is one I couldn't sit through before (when it first came out about 6/7 years ago) as it is so horrific and ultimately depressing. It covers the ill treatment (torture) of prisoners of the US in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay. Though I should imagine many Avalonians have already seen it, for those who haven't, it fits in well with this thread. I have posted the trailer but for those who want to watch the entire documentary it is on You-Tube:

Islamic leaders urge Obama to halt force feeding in Gitmo during Ramadan

    Published on 9 Jul 2013

A US federal court has condemned the force-feeding of Guantanamo Bay
prisoners as a "painful, humiliating and degrading" practice. But at the
same hearing - the judge turned down a request from one of the detainees
to end the practice - ruling that the ONLY person with the authority to make
such a decision is President Obama. And with no let-up to the situation at
Guantanamo, one American hip-hop artist - Mos Def - has decided to
voluntarily subject himself to force-feeding. Abby Martin found out how
it went, in Breaking the Set.

California prisoners join in on Gitmo-like hunger strike

    Published on 10 Jul 2013

In Guantanmo Bay, Cuba, 106 detainees are starving themselves in protest of their
living conditions at the facility and of those 45 are being force-fed. The
demonstrations have been going on for months and recently a US district judge
said that only President Obama has the power to stop the force feeding practice
that some say is violation of human rights law. But in California, thousands of
prisoners are beginning a hunger strike of their own for the same reason, their
living conditions. Carol Strickman, attorney with Legal Services for Prisoners with
    Children,

Guantanamo hunger strikers start to eat

    Published on 12 Jul 2013

Of the 102 Gitmo detainees currently tracked as hunger strikers
by the Department of Defense, an official spokesperson told
reporter Ryan J. Reilly that 99 of those prisoners ate a meal
within the last 24 hours. Gitmo officials allowed prisoners the o
ption of living communally with one another, rather than splitting
them up in individual cellblocks. Does this mean the hunger strike
is over? Not necessarily, because officials must see what they call
"sustained eating," meaning 1,500 calories each day for a week.

Breaking Bread: Most Gitmo hunger strikers begin to eat

    Published on 13 Jul 2013

US officials claim most of the hunger-striking detainees at Guantanamo
Bay have eaten a meal - for the first time since their protest began more
than five months ago. But lawyers for the captives say that doesn't mean
the strike's going to end. 45 prisoners are still being force-fed, in what a
US federal judge has slammed as a 'painful, humiliating and degrading process.'

Is the Gitmo Hunger Strike Working?

    Published on 19 Jul 2013

The hunger strike at Guantanamo Bay has now lasted more than five months,
and for the first time there are reports that the number of hunger strikers is
decreasing. Since the strike began, a number of things have happened that
suggest the hunger strike has achieved some successes. President Obama is
talking about the issue, Members of Congress are calling for the facility to
be closed, and a key prisoner transfer ban to Yemen has been lifted. So, is
it fair to say the hunger strike is working? RT Political Commentator
    Sam Sacks reports.

I had a friend who I knew from exchanging information over the internet and I considered this person a very bright and insightful person. His contention was that the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay were spiritual prisoners. He believed that some of the most spiritually advanced humans on Earth were kept there so as to limit their ability to fight the good fight. This person used to send me pictures of the prisoners from the media and he would point out the most interesting things in the pictures i.e., very distinct faces in the orange jump suits they would wear, letters & numbers, etc. He believed that these advanced spiritual beings were leaving encoded messages for those with eyes to see. If I can find some of the pics he used to send, I will post them here.

    Senators urge to close Gitmo

    Published on 24 Jul 2013

While some reports indicate that a hunger strike there - which has
now lasted nearly 6 months - is starting to slow down - some
members of the Senate aren't ready to give up on closing Gitmo.
So, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing this afternoon
on closing the facility - and what implications that might have on
our national security and our record of human rights .
RT's Liz Wahl was there - she explains.
