Ahmadinejad says Iran may end enrichment

Iran is trying to compromize by offering to halt all enrichment if the west will provide 20% uranium. If the west do not take the deal this time they are hell bent on bringing war nomatter what and will be condemed for it. This game is starting to heat up. Russia needs to step up and act as a go between to keep things civill. It is highly likely that a false flag attack has already started via the cyber warefare section of the ptb. If the perp is discovered and it turns out to be state sponsored Iran will have grounds to declare war IMHO. Share the peace plpe and chill. All will be alright. Peace to all, Studeo.

Iran would consider ending uranium enrichment, the most crucial part of its controversial nuclear activities, if world powers send Tehran nuclear fuel for a medical research reactor, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said.

Addressing a packed press conference in a New York hotel, Ahmadinejad also said Iran was prepared to set a date for resumption of talks with six world powers to discuss Tehran's nuclear programme, saying October would be the likely time for the two sides to meet.

Ahmadinejad also defended his remarks at the UN a day earlier in which he claimed most people in the world believe the United States was behind the September 11, 2001 terror attacks and again challenged the United Nations to set up a commission to probe the attacks.

"I did not pass judgment, but don't you feel that the time has come to have a fact finding committee?" Ahmadinejad asked.

Ahmadinejad said Iran had no interest in enriching uranium from around 3.5 per cent to 20 pe rcent purity but was forced to do so after the world powers refused to provide nuclear fuel that is needed for a Tehran reactor that produces medical isotopes for patients.

That level is far below the more than 90 per cent purity needed to build a nuclear weapon, but US officials have expressed concern Iran may be moving closer to an ability to reach weapons-grade level.

Tehran began higher enrichment in February after talks stalled over a UN-brokered proposal that the United States hoped would - at least temporarily - leave Iran unable to produce a warhead. The US and its allies accuse Iran of seeking to build a nuclear weapon, a claim Iran denies.

"We were not interested to carry out 20 per cent enrichment. They (the US and its allies) politicised the issue. We were forced to do it to support the (medical) patients," Ahmadinejad said. "We will consider halting uranium enrichment whenever nuclear fuel is provided to us."

Ahmadinejad said pressure was counterproductive, but respectful talks will bear fruit.

"The era of following a policy of carrot and stick is over. Even such words are insulting to nations. It's only good for cowboys and those of retarded people. Definitely it has no effect," he said. "They issued resolutions as talks were underway. Still, we are ready for talks."

The Iranian leader said an Iranian representative will probably meet with members of the five permanent members of the Security Council - the US, Britain, France, Russia and China as well as Germany in October.

He suggested that a specific date could be set should European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton contact Iran.

"Probably in October; we are ready for talks. The doors are open for talks within the framework of justice and respect," he said. However, he warned that Iran won't give in to pressure. "They are definitely mistaken if they think they can trample the rights of the Iranian nation through coercion in the talks."

The Iran has also to cope with a mutating infection:

"Impressions from talking to European computer experts approached for aid was that the Iranians are getting desperate. Not only have their own attempts to defeat the invading worm failed, but they made matters worse: The malworm became more aggressive and returned to the attack on parts of the systems damaged in the initial attack.

One expert said: "The Iranians have been forced to realize that they would be better off not 'irritating' the invader because it hits back with a bigger punch."

Its another effort to grind down Iran's capabilities before the final onslaught.

The Stuxnet worm code targets industrial control software made by Siemens called WinCC/Step 7, but is designed to deliver its malicious payload to only a particular configuration of that system. About 68 percent of infected systems in Iran have the Siemens software installed, but researchers don’t know if any have the targeted configuration. By contrast, only 8 percent of infected hosts in South Korea are running Step 7 software, and only about 5 percent of infected hosts in the U.S. do. An apparent “kill” date in the code indicates that Stuxnet is designed to stop working June 24, 2012.

As of September 29, 2010, the data has shown that there are approximately 100,000 infected hosts:

This worm is not only a threat to Iran, but to most industrial installations around the world. More systems will get infected over time and it can easily evolve into a global threat.

    Some more info about Stuxnet:

"Analyzing the different types of samples Symantec has observed to date has shed some light on how long this threat has been under development and/or in use. The development of the threat dates back to at least June of 2009. The threat has been under continued development as the authors added additional components, encryption,
and exploits. The amount of components and code used is very large. In addition to this the authors ability to adapt the threat to use an unpatched vulnerability to spread through removable drives shows that the creators
of this threat have huge resources available to them and have the time needed to spend on such a big task; this is not a teenage hacker coding in his bedroom type operation."

"The real-world implications of Stuxnet are beyond any threat we have seen in the past. Despite the exciting challenge in reverse engineering Stuxnet and understanding its purpose, Stuxnet is the type of threat we hope to never see again.
    "

The worm checks a certain value in the registry of the computer.
"If this value is equal to 19790509 the threat will exit. This is thought to be an infection marker or a “do not infect” marker. If this is set correctly infection will not occur. The value appears to be a date of May 9, 1979. While on May 9, 1979 a variety of historical events occured, according to Wikipedia “Habib Elghanian was executed by a firing squad in Tehran sending shock waves through the closely knit Iranian Jewish community. He was the first Jew and one of the first civilians to be executed by the new Islamic government. This prompted the mass exodus of the once 100,000 member strong Jewish community of Iran which continues to this day.” Symantec cautions readers on drawing any attribution conclusions. Attackers would have the natural desire to implicate another party."

"After the threat has installed itself, dropped its files, and gathered some information about the system it contacts
the command and control server on port 80 and sends some basic information about the compromised computer to the attacker via HTTP. Two command and control servers have been used in known samples:

    www[.]mypremierfutbol[.]com
    www[.]todaysfutbol[.]com

The two URLs above previously pointed to servers in Malaysia and Denmark; however they have since been redirected to prevent the attackers from controlling any compromised computers."

"This feature gave Stuxnet backdoor functionality, as it had the possibility (before the *futbol* domains were blocked) to upload and run any code on an infected machine. At the time of writing no additional executables were detected as being sent by the attackers, but this method likely allowed them to download and execute additional
tools or deliver updated versions of Stuxnet."

Energy firms to quit Iran to comply with US sanctions

Four major energy companies are pulling out of Iran in order to comply with US sanctions, the state department says.
Royal Dutch Shell, Total, Statoil and Italy ENI will now avoid US penalties targeting companies which do business with Iran.

Naftiran Intertrade Co, based in Switzerland, will face new sanctions .

The US has tightened sanctions on Iran over concerns about its nuclear ambitions, which Washington fears are aimed at acquiring atomic weapons.

    'Conduit for cash'

Recent legislation gives the US administration the power to penalise foreign companies which invest more than $20m ($12.7m) in Iran's energy sector.

However, companies taking steps to comply with the law are exempted from penalties.

"People are increasingly reaching the conclusion that it's simply not worth it to engage in activities with Iran," Deputy US Secretary of State James Steinberg was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.

Other energy companies are under investigation for possibly breaching sanctions, but the state department has declined to name them.

Mr Steinberg described Naftiran - a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company - as a key conduit for cash into the Iranian oil industry.

In practice, US companies are already prohibited from doing most forms of business with Naftiran. But US officials say the extra sanctions will dissuade non-US companies from doing business with it.

This latest announcement comes a day after the US froze the US assets of eight senior Iranian officials accused of serious human rights abuses following the disputed presidential election in June 2009. They will also barred from travelling to the US and from doing business with companies there.

Iran arrests 'nuclear spies' accused of cyber attacks
The Stuxnet worm affected staff computers at Iran's Bushehr power station Iran has arrested "nuclear spies" on suspicion of being behind cyber attacks on its nuclear programme, Iranian state media report.

Press TV says "a number" of people have been apprehended as part of an operation by Iran to counter "massive enemy schemes".

The report comes after the complex worm Stuxnet infected staff computers at Iran's first nuclear power station at Bushehr.

No details of the arrests were given.

Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi was cited by Press TV as saying his ministry was capable of countering any threats.

"We are always facing destructive activities by these [espionage] services, and, of course, we have arrested a number of nuclear spies to block the enemy's destructive moves," Mr Moslehi said.

But he did not say how many people were detained, or specify whether the cyber attack referred to the Stuxnet virus.

While the worm also affected computers India, Indonesia and the US, it has spread the most in Iran.

Reports suggest that the Stuxnet virus mutated in Iran and infected 30,000 computers.

It is believed to be the first worm designed to target major infrastructure facilities.

Iran's Russian-built Bushehr plant will start generating power in January, two months later than planned, but officials have said the delay was not due to the virus.

Some experts have said the virus was designed to target Tehran's nuclear programme, with some saying the complexity could only have been created by a state.

Iran has been subject to four rounds of UN sanctions because of its uranium enrichment programme, which is separate from Bushehr.

The West fears Tehran wants to build a nuclear weapon, but Iran insists its plans are for peaceful energy production.

Ahmadinejad is having a hard time:
After the game of distributing a false transcript of his UN speech, the cold reception in NY and now the Stuxnet desaster, his tone became more harsh:

"In a speech Sunday he went a step further using a deeply offensive insult in response to U.S. statements that the military option against Iran is still on the table.

"May the undertaker bury you, your table and your body, which has soiled the world,"
he said using language in Iran reserved for hated enemies."

My assessment that Nethanyahu has to please somehow Obama was based that Obama has means to pressurize Neth.
But that is obviously not the case, see here also:

Adding to that is the appointment of Tom Donilon as National Security adviser:

"National Security Council officials Tom Donilon and Dennis Ross have been playing in pushing the administration towards a more and more confrontational stance against Iran"

    source: http://justworldnews.org/archives/003970.html

Donilon had been forced upon (former NSA) Gen. Jones as Deputy by Rahm Emanuel, before getting replaced by him .
Now you have an AIPAC National Security Adviser with no practical military experience advising Obama how to ...

    Some more on Donilon:

"He was a top lobbyist at Fannie Mae during the housing bubble, when Fannie fought — with Democratic help — to avoid any restrictions or curbs on its work to inflate home values and get more people under mortgage. Before that, Donilon was a lobbyist at O’Melveny and Myers, where Fannie was a client.

In 2008, according to his financial disclosure forms, Donilon was a paid consultant for Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Apollo Investments."
