On Wednesday, a private drone crashed on the streets of the Big Apple. The unmanned aircraft nearly hit a pedestrian, who quickly grabbed the memory card from the drone. He then sent the card to a local news station, to see if they could find the origins of the UAV based on the footage from the memory card. RT's Meghan Lopez has more on the story.

Runner fined $100 at Valley Forge amid shutdown

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. - A marathon runner says he was fined $100 for running in Valley Forge National Historical Park during the government shutdown.

John Bell says he parked his car Sunday in a remote parking lot, not one blocked by a barrier.

The 56-year-old Bell, of Chadds Ford, says two rangers were waiting with their car lights flashing when he returned.

Bell plans to fight the ticket in federal court. He says he saw many other runners and bikers in the park.

A National Park Service spokesman in Washington, D.C., did not immediately return a call Monday.

A park service release says 20,000 employees have been furloughed, while about 3,000 are providing security and emergency services.

Bell’s lawyer, Jeremy Ibrahim, says his client is just trying to stay fit, even as Congress debates a national health plan.

Government Buys $47,174 Mechanical Bull: 'Shutdown' Day 7

(CNSNews.com) - The government shutdown may be keeping furloughed federal workers at home, but on Monday the U.S. Army contracted to buy a mechanical bull. [article here]

The $47,174 contract was awarded on Oct. 7 to Mechanical Bull Sales Inc. of State College, Penn.

According to the General Services Administration (GSA) listing, the National Guard of Utah made the request for a “bull which needs to be durable and low maintenance.”

The bull that was sold to the Utah National Guard should meet any state safety requirements. The Mechanical Bull Sales website says, “Our mechanical bulls are approved for use in all 50 states and Canada. This includes: Pennsylvania, New Jersey and California which have stringent safety requirements for amusement rides.”

Lt. Col. Hank McIntire of the Utah National Guard tells CNSNews.com that the mechanical bull is regularly used as a tool by recruiters at fairs and other events.
“It draws attention to their message,” McIntire said.

McIntire says mechanical bulls have been used for several years by Utah National Guard recruiters. He says the previous mechanical bull had broke down and was beyond repair.
